Brag: success on my first carrier landing attempt
Growling Sidewinder replied to gavagai's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
on speed depends on your weight I believe. fuel weapons etc. every-time you fly ur on speed will be different. (that's my understanding of it so far anyway) all I know is that my initial is 340 at 800ft. then I know I get 250 during the 180. and then after the beam before entering the 90 and the 45 etc etc its just on speed. going by the indicator whatever that may be. but I also know you shouldn't land with more than 6000lbs of fuel so you don't damage the gears. so I know I like to enter the groove with a speed of about 200. and correct from there. that been working well for me. -
Be my LSO? F-18 Hornet Case 1 Recovery (video)
Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
oh i'm sorry I misread what you said. I thought u were asking for the camera. For the LSO view. I hit f9 to get the ship view. then I zoom in adjust until i'm in the LSO platform. (this part takes some playing around) and then once your in there how you like it, hit Lalt+f2. which locks you into the position. and then every time you come back to the ship view it will just snap to that camera you set up. let me know if thats unclear I can make a 30 second video to show you. -

thanks man, i'll take all that into my next case 1 practice. I'll probably have to pull like 300+ before i'm any good -

Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
thats a great point. any tips for how to not drop when I come around into the groove from the 45? I feel like I always swing into it good but almost always end up low as I start the groove. did it in the video too I think. -

haha thanks man, ya you can see that big cloud of exhaust at 2:05 trying to stop that dip. The default key is mapped to "Lalt+f9" can be found under controls if you search for "landing safety officer" it'll bring up the binding -
How to disable ther altitude alert?
Growling Sidewinder replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
oh my apologies I didn't know this was regarding external views. -
So I been practicing proper Case 1 procedure for about 3 days now, I've done probably 50-60 traps now. Finally getting ok at hitting the numbers. I recorded this view from the LSO perspective and would love to hear some feedback. This is the best one I've been able to pull off so far. I think I came in kind of low on that trap but its hard to add the right amount of power, I read you're supposed to add power and pull back and add and pull back. anyone nailing their landings with some tips to share? Another area i'm having trouble with is after I hit the 180 and I beam the carrier and I start the pull for the 90 and the 45....I have trouble getting lined up with the carrier box after I exit the turn and i'm wings level. any tips? what degrees are you turning how many G's are you pulling on those turns? or are you simply eyeballing it?

How does trim operate in the Hornet?
Growling Sidewinder replied to Grippen7's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
god damn it. I duno what it is with them, I posted another one yesterday and someone managed to open it. I duno man. I did what you said tho tried to maintain 2900 feet flaps down gear and hook and managed it for the most part. was fluctuating about +-40 feet at times +- 0 and then once I lost concentration it went to +- 600 lol. shes a hard bird to keep level I dont know what else to say. -
was having that problem prior to even learning how to engage the ATC. thanks for taking the time to check the trk file tho. much appreciated ya i tried that, i'm slowly getting the hang of it. shes a maneuverable bird which is nice but also seems to make it hard to keep her 100%. I think its just part of the flight model. getting kind of tired of always having to fight her to keep her nose down. I tried not touching the trim at all, and its the same issue. I have to activity concentrate to keep her level. especially for those deck landings.

How does trim operate in the Hornet?
Growling Sidewinder replied to Grippen7's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
99% of the time its so slow it might as well not work. like i'm trying to decrease a 1000 foot per second climb I don't time to wait 2mins for the damn trim to respond -
F/A-18C Carrier Landing/Recovery: Pro Tips wanted
Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
fellas ive asked this all over the forum now still no response that has fixed my issue, I can not for the life of me get the trim to work IN AIR. I tried it on the ground and both up and down pitch trim works fine. but as soon as i'm in the air ZERO trim happens. what is going on? -
F/A-18C Carrier Landing/Recovery: Pro Tips wanted
Growling Sidewinder replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
whatever works for you man, I just jumped balls deep into the carrier landings and just crashed into the back so many times I finally got the hang of it. -
ya I did the ctrl+enter, i'm right about what I thought was the problem. say I pitch down a bit to stop a climb and level her out. say 4000. I left go of the stick and it bounces back to neutral and pitches up. so she climbs so I can never actually get a steady flight. at least thats what I saw in the ctrl+enter screen. should I maybe be setting some sort of deadzone for my joystick?
-
thanks for the explanation, I did as you said, changed the pitch and roll curve values to 25. and it feels much different and MUCH more stable, thank you so much for that tip. however I do still have a small problem, lets say I level her out at 4000 feet, speed constant, I let go of the stick and she starts to rise up....No idea why, if i had to guess id say is because when I let go of the stick it naturally falls back into this natural position which then pitches the aircraft back up any tips for that issue ?

[NO BUG] No need to retract hook to taxi after a trap
Growling Sidewinder replied to Jack McCoy's topic in Bugs and Problems
this, i'm pretty sure in real life you'd be looking at the yellow jackets telling u to pull up ur hook AFTER the wire had lost tension and came off ur hook indep. -
I can not for the life of me get this bird to fly level, I'll have it all set up passing by the carrier at 375 at 800 feet, and i'll look away for a second and its 890 I'll fix it look back and its 720. makes it so god damn hard to hit my numbers @ the 180 and the 90 let alone the frikken 45 what on earth am I doing wrong? I also can not get the trim on this thing to respond to anything. it literally does not work. I tried what other people said about clicking the trim once and then holding it the second time. It doesnt work man I swear. i'm using a thurstmaster T16000M FCS is that helps troubleshoot my problem at all. f18LevelFlight.trk
