  1. most people will tell you to trim downwards. i honestly never trim and just push the stick the right amount. but generally speaking if you stay in the 0-5 degree AOA you will make it. i have always pointed my AOA at the end of the runway and keep it at the right speed. the f18 is controlled crash too because of carrier so it is forgiving on hard landings. remember a good landing is one you walk away from.

  2. hello all. i have an issue that i was hoping to get some help. when controlling the comm switch with the mouse, one must rotate the switch to go through channels. say i want to change to M manual. i try to rotate the switch and it whips through the channels so fast i cannot get it to stop on what i want. i hope this makes sense. any tips? thanks

  3. i had similar issues with a 1070 so i purchased a 1080 thinking it was card. i had no issues with other games at max settings. when the drivers were installing i saw a message fly by stating something about a nvidia DLL that was old. my suggestion is uninstall the drivers. then try a clean install after getting rid of anything related to old drivers. also on a whim when i was troubleshooting, some post mentioned that Gforce experience caused issues so i now never install that part. but in my case i guess installing the new card got rid of all my problems. by the way gave the 1070 to someone and it has had no issues.

  4. Thanks! Been flying all morning and this has worked out great! I set FLIR to right DDI, with the left I set the JSOW's to TOO on the ground and once in the air go back to HSI WYPT to get my HUD direction set then jump back into JSOW MSN. Line up with the HUD direction and now it's much easier to locate the target on FLIR and lock those coordinates back to the JSOW MSN page. Luckily jumping between HSI and JSOW MSN on the same DDI hasn't meant they have to warm up all over again.

Since I've started using FLIR instead of WYPT to set TOO coordinates, the 154A's & 154C's have been outstanding. I'd say in the past 10 training missions I've dropped 80 of them with only 4 misses (and those were likely because I was super late in the launch range envelope or under 10,000 ft) :smilewink:

way to go! all you needed, as we all do, was a little push. also i suggest using multi-color display for the least used display. i will usually put JSOW there. but this is totally up to the pilot. just dont forget its there ;-)

I wanted to report back that after spending a few hours yesterday flying my AGM-154A & 154C training missions that I had excellent results when using the litening pod to get my coordinates in TOO mode. I've been testing my training mission with 3 options...TOO mode with mission editor defined WYPT's, TOO mode with litening pod targeting & PP mode punching in the LAT/LON/ELEV before takeoff. Without question, TOO mode in combination with the litening pod is by far the most accurate, followed by PP mode with manual LAT/LON/ELEV entry and in last place and still wildly inaccurate is TOO mode based on WYPT's. In fact, the TOO/WYPT approach is so awful I can't see a reason to ever use it.

Thanks to SilverDevil for addressing the biggest problem I had with the litening...locating a small target in a big area. I'll definitely try the WYPT designate to get me close, then the litening to zero in :smilewink:

no problem. it took me some video watching to even get how to designate via the waypoint. another thing when using JSOWs is i need a tank because it is a much more deliberate weapon that requires more time on station. good luck

  6. in my training i have found that in TOO my best results are when i use lightening on station 4 (sans the AIM). i waypoint designate to get in rough location and use lightening to get good coordinates. i can do a couple designates and watch the coords change in the JSOW mission page. i get a good altitude over target to get accurate results. i am able to get mostly shacks at this point.

  7. Since version 2.5.6 I have been unable to rearm/refuel the Hornet when creating a fast mission. I have tried both ramp and runway starts, the Caucasus, Nevada & Persian Gulf theatres.

Changing aircraft colour scheme & number works. Changing the loadout does not.

I have been concentrating on learning the Hornet of late and am unsure if this issue applies to other aircraft also.

off topic but LOL "more bombs, more gas, and if not too much trouble, repaint my plane"

  8. I agree with previous poster that original advert was a little misleading. I thought they were offering the 2 planes as a "one weekend only, get it while you can" freebie special that you got to keep. Wish they had used the word demo or something in there making it clear they would stop working & I never would've messed with it. Like other posters, the downloads have now caused some other ancillary problems, but thankfully I'm still a bit of a noob & hadn't done tons of customization yet.

Uninstalling through MM now & hoping that puts everything back to normal. I guess I should've realized they were temporaries. Live & learn!

GO VOLS! i can confirm that is how i got the message about time limit on the modules to go away by deleting from the module manager.

  9. all of this is great read. so question. what is the purpose of designating a target with TGP while already engaged in mission if all of this is seemingly PP rather that TOO. TOO by definition is "you won't know until you get there". i fly A-10C / F-18C / F-16C (latter not some much yet) and use this method all the time and never pre-plan anything. i download user missions and fly them until i survive. changing weapons and moving waypoints, etc.

  10. my experience that caused my question in first place was i have a FANSONG on a peak elevation of 1590 in the hills / mountains west of Fujairah. using a HT of 1500 may be calulated by the position given to the weapon by the co-ords. either PP or TOO with the lightening. that calc + the HT input?

  11. i mapped in / out buttons and now it appears correct on F18. it seems that i have to turn the wheel max one way or the other. then while it is zooming you have to turn the opposite direction to stop. it is definitely not fine tuned. buttons of course are perfect. i will try the F16 to see what it does. thanks for the feedback / help.

  12. hello all. general question. is the burst height of canister weapons based on distance from the ground or barometric pressure? i figure the former. for example bombing a target on a 500 ft mountain peak and i want a 1500 burst height. thanks.
