  1. Hello Reflected I'm enjoying getting into The Big show :) I got it last March and I've been through the first three missions a couple of times. The system seems to lose track of where I am (and it doesn't help that I've had long time-gaps between sessions :music_whistling:). Anyway, the real reason for this note is that I recently bought the Clostermann book. I'm enjoying reading that too. I sat down and wrote a list of missions and tried to relate them to the chapters of the book ... but I couldn't (for some of them). My book doesn't have "Rommel"(mission 12) nor "An Unsavoury Incident" (mission 9). I did some ferreting around on Amazon and discovered several editions of the book. Mine is a Kindle edition. It has 39 chapters and shows "First published in Great Britain in 1951 by Chatto and Windus, Ltd. © Flammmarion, Paris, 2008 This edition published by Silvertail Books in 2019 Clostermann, Pierre. The Big Show: The Classic Account of WWII Aerial Combat (p. 245)." The paperback edition has 61 chapters and shows "Published in 2004" in its credits page. That's quite a big difference! Any idea why they (seem to have) chopped out all those chapters? Could they have amalgamated some of them? I have adopted the policy of reading the chapter before doing the mission (in fact I'm reading ahead, it's so enthralling!, but I'll go back and re-read just before I fly) so when I do the "Rommel" mission I'll be flying blind, so to speak:huh: Thanks again for the whole package.
  2. Hello Reflected I'm really enjoying The Big Show (my first-ever campaign). Finished mission 3 last night (where did those bombers disappear to :pilotfly:?) This thread is really about my Turban Blue flight. They seem to be very clumsy - death-wish, almost! I'm as yet not expert at taxing, so I'm a bit slow on the taxiway. While I'm struggling with my brakes and rudder and correcting the way-too-far turn, one of them will run into the back of me, or clip my wing!! He bursts into flames, but I just trundle off to the runway and takeoff! Shouldn't these AI entities actually display a modicum of the "I" part of the name ("Artificial Intelligence")? Shouldn't they be programmed to avoid trying to occupy the same space as their team-mates (or even their enemies!)?
  3. Hello Fellows Sorry if this is a naive question, but ... can we use "The Big Show" in multiplayer mode? I had a look inside Mission 1 with the Mission Editor but I didn't see any planes identified as "client". BTW, Reflected, I haven't had this campaign long (~24 hours :-) ) but what I've seen of it looks very good. Keep up the great work. {Has anybody looked into creating a real Biggin Hill on the map?}
  4. Hey Bananimal - it just clicked: NTTR = "Nevada ..." (Duh !!)
  5. Hello Tried it and I can see a lot more info (DEBUG lines etc). Am I right in thinking that you switch off the extra stuff by simply removing (renaming) the autoexec file? Is there somewhere a treasure-trove that describes all these extra features that only seem to be leaking out piecemeal? I'd love to see a User Guide for behind-the-scenes facilities and "things you can switch on for extras" :-)
  6. Hello Bananimal This may be my trouble ... I can actually fly in the Persian Gulf, but in Module Manager, the Serial Number / Key is not present (and in the log, it shows "ERROR: Failed to read serial number of Persian Gulf"). Before I get into the long-winded stuff, I'd like to try the re-activation thing, so how did you do it? (I've already tried the "DCS_Updater.exe install PERSIANGULF_terrain" (suggested by Johnny Rico) and the didn't work). BTW, what's NTTR?
  7. Hello BIGNEWY This is my first time posting so please forgive any rough-and-ready formatting (like the table below - looks neat in my text-editor, which responds to tabs and spaces :)). I've read through this thread from the start and there are close parallels to my situation, but I'll come back to that later. The immediate problem is about the "autoexec.cfg" file. I can't find one in my DCS directories. All I've got in the "Saved Games directory is: ================================================================================ C:\Users\BH_Ordinary\Saved Games\DCS\Config\ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- authdata.bin ......... 1,104 2018-07-07 18:37:27 imgui.ini ................... 66 2018-07-07 17:21:12 network.vault .............81 2018-07-07 18:37:27 options.lua ............ 3,512 2018-07-07 18:38:00 Options.lua.Backup . 3,512 2018-07-07 17:13:22 Options.lua.Preset01 3,512 2018-07-07 17:13:22 Options.lua.Preset02 3,512 2018-07-07 17:13:22 Options.lua.Preset03 3,512 2018-07-07 17:13:22 Options.lua.Preset04 3,512 2018-07-07 17:13:22 Options.lua.VR ........ 3,512 2018-07-07 17:13:22 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 files, 0 folders 25,835 bytes ============================================= I've even searched the whole of the DCS World tree: no joy! There's an "autoexec.lua" but that's in Scripts & ModelViewer. Is my installation missing something?
