Start with A-4E/Tucano mod or FC3 planes?
DmitriKozlowsky replied to The_Chugster's topic in New User Briefing Room
Neither. If you want to DCS level training without 100 hours of study, start with F-5E Tiger II. If you get good with F-5E, it makes transitioning into more sophisticated aircraft easier and efficient. If you want to stick with FC3. The most usefull, as far as airmanship is Mig-29, due to its advanced realistic flight model. Especially landings, and maintaining proper speed in lattern patern. If you are deadset on starting with free DCS mod, then begin with A-4E-C. But I really cannot recommend F-5E enough. You'll actually be replicating real world fast jet progression. In USAF it is basic flight - T-38(F-5E in DCS)-F-16C. In USN TA-4(DCS A-4E-C)-F/A-18C or AV-8B or F-14 or future F-4. F-5E is a great lead in to Mirage2000C. I try to avoid any mod with Standard Flight Model. SFM is not good exposure, becouse it allows development of bad habbits. Wait until Pucara has EFM or it becomes a commercial module with realistic professional flight model. -
I do notice that it bleeds energy in hard turn or max perf break, awfully fast. But overall I really like the flight model and flying qualities of Viggen. When it only carries two AIM-9P or L, and nothing else, internal fuel at 70% or less , its quite a peppy. But weighed down with weight and drag of gunpod and jammer, it looses some peppiness. I am not clear why Swedes decided to design a fighter-bomber without internal organic cannon , ECM, and countermeasures dispenser. Why everything has to be a pod taking up a station. Since 2.7.10XXX added low altitude buffet flight dynamics, Viggen behaves quite nicely compared to F-16 and Harrier. Buffeting is most apparent over Cyprus, flying down among the mountains of Western Cypress, in Viper or Harrier, there is considerable yaw and pitch oscillations. Present in Viggen, but not as much. Probably because it is heavier ship and canards help. I recall that B-1B gained cunnards during development to reduce low altitude buffet. Low altitude buffet was a factor in more then few F-111 CFIT losses and airframe maintenance woes.

Any idea why reverse thrust simply does not work sometimes? On landing, Landing with 180 knots IAS. At touch down activate thrust reverser (handle pulled, light is on), go to full power, gear brakes at 50 %, but aircraft does not slow down. Most other times,it works fine. Does afterburner deactivates reverser?

What a lovely way to fight! Is there a stores compatibility matrix? Lets say rockets on left chin, and RB-75A on right chin. So both prevent each other from working. Jammer pod and countermeasures pod take up two stations where RB15 go. So either choose your most potent anti-ship weapon or self-protection pods. Need all aspect Sidewinders, well those go on stations where either RB15 , jammer. countermeasures pods go. Outer stations, take only rear-aspect Sidewinders.

Thank you. Unfortunately, it is not helping. Either the tut is outdated or there has been a significant change. Because the basic functionality is not working as advertising. To slew EP seeker press T1, then slew with radar. But it does not work as instructed. Attached is image. Shows my setup. Master Mode: ANF (air to ground) Weapon selector : RB75 Trigger safety: UP (ARMED). Which I cycled s few times. Not visible is EP set to TV T1 via HOTAS. As we see, I have no seeker sight in EP13 sight. So something is hosed.

Yeah, I don't understand the RB-75 instruction. Maybe I am an idiot. All I ever see with RB-75 (AGM-65A) is pure white in the reticle telescope. Adjusting EP13 contrast and brightness does little. It don't lock on, and it don't fire. TV T switches don't appear to do anything. Its confusing, and frustrating. Does the blinking mean its locked on, or that's its inside Maverick launch minimum? Master Mode: ANF Weapon Selector: RB-75 (aligned with teardrop) Trigger safety: UP (ARM) Weapon release : nothing happens.

Yes. And decided not run the mod. As it would have to be redone with every update. If mod cannot be placed into .../users/name/Saved_Games/... I dont use it. But Viggen does need an organic English language cockpit, or perhaps a floating translation option invoked by hovering pointer over switch and instrument.

It does not appear to work as advertised. Swedish cockpit does not help. RB-75 usage. AGM-75B on station. Weapon selector rotary on RB75. Master Mode to ANF. Trigger safety UP. AND nothing! Does not work. No seeker view , weapon release does not do anything. Gun Pod usage Weapon selector rotary to AKAN. Master Mode ANF. Trigger safety UP. Cannon does not fire. Training mission instruction is not effective. At least to myself.

OK, thank you.

How does SU-34 guide LGB? There does not appear to be a Russian equivalent of LiteningII ro Sniper TPODs.

How do we know Mini Jammer (aka DECM pod) is working?

Like a towed decoy in Hornet? -
I believe tracers go on every 5th or 10th round. Armor piercing, HE, incendiary round are interspersed with PGU combat mix, but don't have exact proportions. In DCS AV-8B, GAU-12 sounds weak. RW sound is tearing chainsaw with deep base. Maybe in RW , the sound is pop-pop, in AV-8B. I'd be happy if RAZBAM just poaches GAU-8 from A-10 modules. It'll be closer to real thing and add a bit 'drama to the sim.
