  1. Here's another thing to consider wrt the video of a take off with flaps on auto. Tthe pilot started his take off run with auto flaps and as soon as there was no weight on wheels, he switched to half flap. Maybe he didn't, and the pitch, whose severity depends on speed, was disguised as he flew faster and hoisted the ship towards the heavens. We dont know so all we have is the manual and speculation.
  2. Everything about aviation is about procedures, even on simulators. Simulators are all about let's pretend it's not limited to procedures Yes, the term originated from a bug being stuck and fried between contacts in Bill Gates train setup at university where he was developing train track switching circuits. I find the topic in this thread interesting because I have experienced the same phenomenon when launching from a carrier with flaps in auto. The question I want to ask is why the real life aircraft will bring up a caution when flaps are on auto for take off if they are not supposed to be unintended consequences?. Just my opinion and I am not trying to upset or fight with anyone.
  3. Well it is in the discussion area, I don't believe it to be a bug and I will express my opinion whenever I please. No disrespect intended.
  4. You can't get more unequivocal than this From the POH 2.8.4.4 CK FLAPS Caution Display. The CK FLAPS DDI caution is displayed at takeoff when the FLAP switch is in AUTO. 2.10.1.3 Weight-On-Wheels (WOW) System. Numerous aircraft systems function differently depending upon whether the aircraft is on the ground or is airborne. The most important of these functions include: various flight control laws, landing gear operation, master arm and stores jettison, fuel dump operation, AOA HUD indexers and approach lights, Automatic Throttle Control (ATC) and autopilot operation, pitot static, AOA and total temperature probe heating, fuel tank pressurization, and the inflight IDLE and afterburner lockout throttle stops. To determine when the aircraft is on the ground, a proximity switch on each gear indicates when there is weight on each of the wheels. There are a variety of failure conditions which may result in false indications of WOW or weight off wheels. These include: a misrigged landing gear WOW proximity switch, a WOW proximity switch failure, an improperly serviced landing gear strut, a landing gear control unit failure, or a problem with the aircraft wiring. An uncommanded pitch up after takeoff may occur if a WOW system failure results in the aircraft sensing weight on wheels while inflight. The first indication of the aircraft sensing WOW while inflight is the inability to raise the landing gear handle. Other possible indications include the CHECK TRIM caution, NWS on the HUD, and the CK FLAPS caution if the FLAP switch is moved to AUTO. The aircraft may then quickly undergo an uncommanded pitch up which is caused by the large stabilator deflection present at takeoff. Normally, the stabilator deflection would be trimmed out automatically by the flight control system. As airspeedincreases, the uncommanded pitch up rate increases. Maintaining airspeed as slow as practical helpscontrol nose pitch up and assists in lowering the aircraft’s nose. Above 180 knots, full forward stickalone does not stop aircraft nose up rotation, so nose down trim is required to regain control of theaircraft. The FLAP switch should also remain in HALF since the pitch up rate increases if the FLAPswitch is moved to AUTO.
  5. Well it is a digital combat forum. ;)
  6. Cool video, i notice that shortly after autoflaps deployed, the pilot hoisted the ship into vertical. How much was stick and how much was trim is for the pilot to say. ;)
  7. My pre flight checks always start with joystick calibration and bindings check.
  8. The Minab dam wall gets algae on it in real life. Not quite as dramatic but true to the real thing.
  9. On the opening screen there is an arrow on the left side. Click the arrow and you will see a note with a link for the special deal on F18 and Persian Gulf.
  10. Follow this advice. https://www.yak-52.com/flying%20a%20yak52.htm
  11. Yes all sorted now. Changed spring centre settings. Will be interested to see how the P51's and Mi 8 behave but I cannot get away from the Yak.
  12. After playing with joystick settings, I increased the spring centring and removed the DCS force feedback setting.I am using an old Logitech Force 3D pro and I use the Logitech software to calibrate and test the stick. Of course I made the wrong comparison between the P51 trim and the Yak trim and so ruled out the stick. The P51 has 2 big elevator trim tabs whereas the Yak only has one. I suppose IRL no one flies a Yak 52 in longitudinal level trim for very long anyway. Loving all of DCS World.
  13. I have just discovered the DCS repair and update on the windows menu. Ran a clean and update and went straight to the Yak. Pitch behaviour much improved. Still think the trim is a bit off as there is not much trim nose up authority. I find it impossible to trim straight and level. After a second or two of hands off, down she goes. Now I have never flown a Yak so I don't know if the ship is naturally nose heavy. Because of the big radial up front the ship must have been designed with adequate nose up trim. I don't think it is my joystick setup as this problem doesn't happen with my P51's. What say the Yak pilots? Thanks for a great SIM.
  14. Yak 52 elevator trim I have just got the 52 and it's great. The elevator trim seems pretty ineffective though. Anyone else have the same opinion?
  15. Great stuff, all good now. Thanks to Knock-Knock and Art-J who sent me a pm. Awesome forum and SIM.
  16. Thanks Knock-Knock, I will try the the right shift right control sequences tonight. I use the stick TOP HAT to view the cockpit and 2 keys on the stick for zooming in and out.
  17. Hi everyone, As a new comer to DCS World I have nothing but praise for this SIM. The best I have flown excluding the Airbus A380 simulator, the $20 million one. I was lucky enough to spend 2 hours doing touch and goes with short local flights. Now, to my fuel gauge issue. I have the Mi8 and P51D. I cannot see the P51 fuel gauges. I do not have TRACKIR and fly with a Logitech Extreme 3D. Now I know you can use snapviews for this purpose but you would need to see the gauges prior to setting snap view. I seem to recall when first starting with the Mi8 there was the ability to see behind obstacles. I cannot remember what I did to achieve that. The P51D with no pilot in the cockpit is the norm for me but the seat still blocks the gauges. How do I get to peer around the corners as it were. Once again a great SIM and I am looking forward to building proficiency and starting with on line warfare.
