  1. So when I right click "My Computer" it registers 16 GB RAM. So I am pretty sure it is all being used. Task manager still shows it utilized close to full. But sometimes it's misleading. For example, I had Shogun II running and went into task manager with Shogun still running but hidden and the desktop up... it showed memory at about 8 gb but close to 100% use. So that was confusing.
  2. Thanks Jonnie. My issue is I just bought a used 1060 3 GB. So I would ebay it and get the 1070 8 GB but I am slightly worried it may now be CPU bottlenecked. I have an i5 3570k. I just OC'ed it to 4.1 ghz from 3.4 stock. I can go a bit higher. GPU is a cheaper change. If it is actually the CPU causing the bottleneck then I would need a new mother board and CPU as mine is the L1155 socket. That's where I am at now... stuck on where my bottleneck really is now that I have 16 gigs RAM.
  3. Thanks everyone for your thoughts, and thank you Ziptie. It is amazing how this community is so behind this game. I can tell from the posting that it is taken seriously but with a enough fun as to not be a burden. I think I will work on flying the P-51D trainer to continue getting good at landings and takeoffs, then move to the Super Hornet instructional courses in the game. In a week or two I will reach out to you Ziptie! - Jim
  4. Thanks all!
  5. First off, everyone has been very helpful on here. I have received a lot of help thus far, so thank you to the community. I have a couple threads going about various topics. So I have DCS World and F/A-18C. It's a complicated aircraft and I have spent most of my time thus far flying the trainer P-51D instead as it is far less complicated. It (PP-51D) will probably be the next module I buy because it is much easier to fly. Now there are a ton of youtube videos out there teaching the ins and outs of the Hornet. But how would a more experienced player teach a greenhorn? There is startup/takeoff, flying, landing, carrier ops, re-fueling, sensors, weapons, dogfighting. How do I best go about learning, and in what order, these things. The P-51D is fairly straight forward: Start her up and learn how she handles. But the computers and sensors and instruments on the Hornet are daunting. Suggestions on the order to learn and any specific videos/online guides?? I did find one titled DCSF/A-18 No Nonsense Beginner's Tutorial - Startup, Basic Air Weapons, & Landing on YouTube that is pretty good. Just curious what you all thought. And is joining a clan or squadron worth while? It looks fun.
  6. Thanks for the advice. I agree. I bought the 4 gigs RAM to put me dual channel at 16 GB total and am now looking at a GTX 1070. I think honestly it is the Graphics card holding me back. As for the model building, 1/72 has never been my scale. I prefer 1/32 for WWII aircraft but usually go with 1/48. If you think that's weathering, you should see my F4U Corsair.
  7. Thanks BuzzU. I will check again after work. I swear I set it up as View left slow, etc. ut it snaps right to the view instead of panning, but I will check again.
  8. Thanks Dorian. Maybe I should get an 8 GB stick for the 4th slot instead of 4 GB? Put me at 20 GB?
  9. I'm very new to the game and these forums. I have asked a few questions already and gotten a lot of help. Thank you all. Two questions, and I will make it up to everyone by posting some pictures of a 1/48 F/A-18E I built last year! 1) In Instant Action and other game modes how do you ask the ground crew to load out your bird? I have seen online people at the airstrip and then a menu comes up and shows their bird and they can select their loadout. I couldn't find it in the controls when I searched. Any ideas? 2) Computer Specs: Please spare me the "you need a new computer" stuff unless it's absolutely imperative. I took my old gaming computer from 2013 and made some minor updates to it. The game in cockpit seems to run smooth but an F2 view seems somewhat jumpy. I have most settings to low. I am wondering where my biggest bottleneck is for this game and the best use of money going forward: Windows 10 i5 3570k 12 GB RAM 2 Sata 1 GB HD SSD's GTX 1060 3 GB X56 Hotas Nothing is OC'ed. I know the CPU is old, but a lot of what I read states that while old it isn't that far behind the newer CPUs out there. Additionally, buying a new CPU would require a new Motherboard. The Graphics Card I got on ebay was sold as a 6 GB but came and turned out to be the 3 GB version. I ended up getting $35 back from the seller and considered it fair deal. In hindsight, that was probably not a good idea. I assume that is the biggest bottle neck. I added 4 GB more RAM to the system to get it to 12. I have one slot left. That is probably the easiest and cheapest upgrade but I am not sure how much help it would be. Other than throwing the thing away, (hahha) what is the best upgrade for me? I am going to go on a limb and say graphics card.Thoughts? RAM purchase to get me to 16 GB would be about $27. Thanks. Oh and as promised, my SUPER Hornet!
  10. Jonnie2Bad, Thank you for your response. Actually that's how I ended up binding it. But that leaves me with what describe as static head movements. I bound it to the inverted gray china hat on my stick. So I guess what I mean is, that when I click on the POV button a direction (because it's bound to view left slow, view up slow, etc) instead of slowly changing the orientation of the camera in the cockpit based on my pressing of the button, it immediately takes me to the left or up or right. I would prefer to have the camera pan. I cannot seem to go back to that style of camera movement.
  11. So I have my X56 working. Previously I was able to free-look around the cockpit with a POV dial on the stick, but after I loaded someone's stick profile it stopped working. So I loaded it back to that POV button. However, I notice it just changes to a different angle of the cockpit as opposed to moving as if you were slowly moving your head. I hope this makes sense. Anyway, anyone know how I bind the stick button correctly so it controls the head of the pilot in real time as opposed to just changing immediately to a different view of the cockpit from inside the aircraft?
  12. FIGURED IT OUT!!!! It took a Clear Calibration app from Logitech. https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023194074 It seems to work now. Next thing is to learn to fly!!!!! Thanks all. I included the link for anyone with this issue in the future.
  13. Thanks Razor. I'll try that but I did some re-calibration already and it didnt seem to help. I may completely uninstall and reinstall. Any idea the registry entry for the stick and throttle so I can erase it?
  14. Here is what the calibration window that came with the driver shows. Calibrate Axes only calibrates the X and Y. In DCS it shows I am hard left at center. Twist right works to go right. At the calibration window and the windows window of my last post it shows twist left and twist right both register, so its not a problem with the stick. It is how the program is registering it somehow. I have no clue what to do.
  15. Well, I just figured out my Z axis is left it looks like at the neutral. That's the problem. And I have no clue how to calibrate it. There is no calibrate option in Windows, and the X56 app doesn't have a calibration option for z axis that I can find. Only y and x.
  16. Thanks guys. Problem is that the x56 app and the Windows device app both don't calibrate. The X56 app only calibrates X and Y and the Windows device app doesnt have any calibration function. Just a function that shows if the buttons, sticks, and axis's work (they all do btw). So I dont know what to do calibrate it.
  17. I'll add that I attempted to setup a VJoy and Joystick Gremlin for Xwing and Tie Fighter and noticed the rudder twist wasn't working there to the left either. So the input is working at the windows level... but...?
  18. So I got a Stick and Throttle setup that is the Saitek X56. It seems to be working but I have just noticed something... the drivers are all installed and it works in DCS but the rudder only turns right. DCS only shows "RZ" as a selection option. I have included screenshots of the driver setup screen both twisting left and twisting right. So it registers both directions. But in game it is not. Any ideas?
  19. Thanks all. I got the drivers working. The throttles and stick seem to be working now in DCS. I downloaded profiles from the Youtube Channel Grim Reapers. and that seems to be a good start. I will likely customize further from there once I understand the simulator a bit better. Anyone care to provide their $0.02 on what they put on their buttons and switches? Using his profile though did leave me with one issue. When I first got the HOTAS running I noticed a knob on the stick that moved the cockpit camera with your thumb. It is up on the far left top of the control stick. I rather liked that. But the new profile changed that. I went and binded that knob back to cockpit view but now it just shifts from one cockpit view to the next and doesnt shift the view as if im turning my head slowly. (And yes, I chose "slow" for the binding hahaha) Any thoughts on this? Overall the game is very deep. I have a feeling it is going to be a while before I really start to feel comfortable with it. Hell, just taking off in the P-51D I find myself losing control in flight easily.
  20. Thanks Bones. I didnt realize you had to setup a profile. As you can see I know nothing about what I am doing. I just figured the programming tab showed you what buttons you were pushing. The inputs do work there. How the heck do I setup a profile (programming) and what is it I am doing exactly?
  21. Hey all. I found a good deal on an X56 but am having some issues. The drivers seem to install but showed the device not connected even when they were via usb. Additionally, the computer chimes when they are plugged in and identifies them. They seem to show up, but certain applications dont seem to see them. And a few of the profile apps that came with the driver download (Mad Catz and Profiler) will not load. Still, the computer does show them and the X56 Logitech app does show them. So how do I set up the profile? I have included a screenshot so you can see. How does everyone setup a profile for F/A-18C? Thanks!
  22. Hahaha the passion on this forum is amazing!!!! Ok Foka and Stearmandriver, question for you. I found a Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS setup for about $150. I noticed it has fewer buttons and only one throttle. But is that worth getting? It is USB. Are drivers around for it on Windows 10? (It looked like there were) Should I go with a Logitech x56 over the Cougar? I assume I can set the throttle to control both port and starboard engines on the sim simultaneously? Thoughts on the Cougar?
  23. Honestly, thank you all for the comments. Very helpful. And I’ll look into the head tracking!
  24. Thanks all. Very good to know. OK, so now HOTAS. Look, I know you get what you pay for and the nice authentic HOTAS' are expensive. But for me, authentic is nice to have. Is there a HOTAS that is more authentic looking that isn't just stupid expensive? The warthog looks amazing but is $$$$$$$$$
