What fighters were the Argentinians using in the Falklands?
Neil Gardner replied to Neil Gardner's topic in AV-8B N/A
Good sources, thanks. Yes, should have mentioned that we came to consider that the Argentine military in the air fought with huge courage and skill as for various reasons their aircraft were not in good condition, but they still did us allot if damage. I have a friend who was on the Sir Galahad, hit by a missile from a Mirage (it was an excorcet so must have been a Mirage ?), and suffers from PTS to this day. -
What fighters were the Argentinians using in the Falklands?

Back in the midst of time when I was a young soldier - a very young soldier, you guys may remember that the UK was involved in a spat with the Argentinians over ownership of the Falkland Islands - nasty business and now long over and we’re all old men. But what I wondered was: if the RAF were using Harrier GR1- which I think they were - and the FAA (the Navy) were using Sea Harriers, does anyone remember what the Argentinians were using? I’ve got a feeling it was A5’s but I don’t really remember. I ask because it has often been considered that this was one of the major combat test cases for Harrier and it emerged very much the victor. I don’t ask for any flag waving reasons - War is a nightmare and families lose loved ones on all sides. I’m asking out of historical interest and because now I have this wonderful RAZBAM model of the American development. - the AV. -
I just want to say that I think this model is an absolutely wonderful achievement. Well done Razbam! Iis great to have it at all but I am just wondering when it will be ready for v.2 please.

I have the avionics upgrade to the Iris F15E that the M2M and Razbam team did before they completed the Mirage for FSX. It is wonderful. Both the F15E and Mirage are lovingly made and reflect the talents of developers whose abilities are very much above average. I was upset when the F15E was not brought to the completion that many of us had hoped for in those platforms. I was amazed when M2M seemed almost to close down. In both of the models that they were responsible for they had produced some of the most sophisticated, beautifully modelled, incredibly detailed and yet excellently optimised military models in desktop flight simulation. I was gutted when I thought that they had either given up or gone bust or something. I now realise that they went over to DCS and that the Mirage is the first fruit of their endeavours after the research that'd originally been put into the FSX/P3D version. I should just say that if these guys are the same ones who made my AU for F15E, and they intend to bring the F15E to DCS, then I would expect something very special. I would hope they are able to go to it after the Harrier. best wishes Neil.

Yes, I will. I know it hasn't been released I was just wondering if Beta testers were able to make a comment. But Ill certainly wait for the live stream as it looks quite beautiful.

Hi all I wonder if I can ask how the performance of the Normandy map rates in relation to, say, the Caucuses map? thanks Neil G

HELP! Trying to aim, lock and fire RB75
Neil Gardner replied to Neil Gardner's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Will do, thanks -
Hi all Any help will be gratefully received. I am on the battlefield, I have the EP scope on. Its a bit awkward having to move up close to the scope to slew it, thence losing touch with the wider view, but its do-able. But then, trying to find targets, then locking and firing, is proving - for me at least - to be a bit of a nightmare. If anyone has worked out a good method - I have read the manuals and seen the videos; they have helped but not entirely got me there yet - I would be most grateful. Thanks Neil

Excuse me adding an addendum but I just wanted to say how much I enjoy DCS and the level of detail and sophistication is often breath -taking. So I didn't want to imply that it might be easy to do what I've suggested, to reproduce that amount of detail over a larger area would certainly take time..

I really welcome this thread as it is something that has been on my mind for some time. I think it is fair to say that the aircraft now in DCS are first class, they would rival the quality of models in any platform. But the business of scenery has been the weak spot for a while. I've no problem with the quality of the scenery - though it is good to hear that further detail is being built in to the Caucuses - and the Nevada map is beautiful. Also its great that other maps are in development, Straits of Hormuz, Normandy etc. But to be honest I think that what is really needed is BIGGER maps. Especially now that there are jet fighters, covering the whole map does not take too much time at all, they need more room to range around in, I have to say that if something the size of ORBX open LC were supplied Id be over the moon. It wouldn't all need intense detail because this is all about Flight, not looking at pretty scenery. I take the point about interacting with the maps, but perhaps only certain areas would need be interacted with? But with the expansion in the sophistication , speed and range of the aircraft I do think it will become more and more important that the range of environmental possibilities increase also. Neil

Chuck's Guides - DCS Tutorial Library
Neil Gardner replied to Charly_Owl's topic in General Tutorials
Can I just say, as a long standing member of this community, Chuck's guides are wonderful. I wish there was a guide for all the complex aircraft I have in FSX, P3D and X plane 11 as well. I wish developers would take a look at what you do. Don't get me wrong, I like the long manuals going into exquisite detail about systems etc, but for clarity, initial comprehensiveness, and just getting you up there quick without missing out anything that's going to get you knocked down quick, Chuck's guides are frankly the best I've seen anywhere. And I've been simming 15 years. Take care all Neil -
Thanks for that, will apply your advice.

I understand. Well, at present I am using DCS World BETA 1.5, patched up to date. I use quick mission, from ramp - so cold and dark - and I am presently alternating between the F5, the L39, and the MIG 21. I believe that I am following the manual correctly but am open to correction, and problems ensue when I attempt to communicate with ground crew for power, air or rearm, or ATC on the taxi ways or ready for take-off. Thanks Neil

Dear all Having a bit of a nightmare with my radios. I've studied the manuals, tried to follow things carefully and yet every aircraft I try to use it sometimes answers me, sometimes does not. Sometimes answers 5 minutes after I've asked something sometimes answers in reasonable time. Occasionally it neither answers nor does what I ask. Hope you can throw some light on things. Thanks Neil

I have Harrier, Buckeye, all 3 Corsair issues and Metroliner for FSX and P3D which have all been out some time but still great models. I have the M2M F15 and the magnificent Mirage. As an ancient simmer I can say that I've always regarded Razbam models as quality offerings for FSX and P3D and its good to see them now building for DCS. Neil

Tusler's mail is very encouraging 'Hi, I am running it on medium with 775 Socket E6600 2.4 ghz oc'ed to 2.8ghz 4 gig ram, and a gtx 460 nvidia card. I am using onboard sound and things are very playable' The video card is very up to the minute, but if you don't mind me saying so, the chip is quite modest and with what we know of the CPU intensive nature of flight sims, if he's getting decent performances then there is hope for a lot more of us. But this is something that some of us who have been simming for a while discovered with the likes of FSX. Although, of course, on the whole the higher the spec the better the performance, this was not always the case. There were so many different set-up's, so many different permutations, so many types of other programme on the same disc, etc, etc, and all of these would have their effect in some way, shape or form. But there is something else that we can take from the FSX experience and that is that though the original release was an extremely poor performer on just about every system, SP1 made a huge difference. In other words optimisation can go a long way. THis is what I am hoping with the next patch. NeilG

Been away from BS for a bit whilst I have a play with the new A10, and hadn't tested BS with the latest update. Now I've come back and I am pleasantly surprised. Is anyone else finding her easier to control and manouver now after the latest update - especially landing? NeilG

Thanks for getting back Yes, I've thought of that. Unfortunately I got rid of the e-mails that this would have been included in a long time ago. I made a copy and backed it up which would normally have been what I would have used in these circumstances - I'm generally so careful about this, I have 30 odd add ons for things like FSX that I am normally so diligent about retaining purchace and installation information for, but unfortunaletly it seems not this time.

Oh, and forgot to mention, my screen does not say 'Buy Again', rather it just says 'Buy' which almost certainly suggests that it does not know that I have the download already.

EtherealN Thanks for the quick reply. My screen looks exactly the same except for the absence of an activation number. But what you said about being logged on under a different account might be the problem. I have a feeling that there was a problem and the account details were changed about a year ago - unfortunately I know its pathetic but I can't quite remember. If that is the case, however, what would I have to do then to retrieve my old account details? NeilG

Hello, I have had various problems with new OS's and other pieces of software over the time that I have had BS, though BS itself has always been reliable, and this has necessitated OS reinstallments from time to time. After putting my new OS on and re-installing BS this time I went to 'files' and 'products' to look for my activation number, having stupidly failed to uninstall properly, but now I find the number isn't there. I really cannot think that I have used up 8 re-activations but it is a possibility. I am writing therefore to see if anything can be done and I would be very grateful indeed if you could help. Thanks in anticipation Neil Gardner

Thanks for the replies guys. Have been away for a bit - Macka: No, haven't installed any of the things you mentioned so can't be that. Chillspider: More I think about it the more I think your right. Did a clean install the other day from an old backup that I'd forgeotten about and had worked perfectly before - same problem. It can only be that something is left after uninstall and of coursesomething IS left and that is whatever it is that allows us to reinstall without activation. The bug must be contained in there I would have thought.
