It took me a while to figure out that the BRA calls are actually 'compass directions' and not 'compass bearings'. In the maritime parlance a 'bearing' is some number of degrees 'off of the ship's heading'. So a bearing of 90 degrees is always off the starboard beam...REGARDLESS what direction the ship is heading in. A bearing of 0 degrees is dead ahead, etc. BRA calls from AWACS seem to be 'a compass direction" from me to the threat/target. So if I get a BRA of 90 for 20, that seems to indicate that the target is 20 degrees magnetic (or true?) from me at 20 NM. Is that how it's interpreted? eric

I have a Blue Yeti Pro that is really quite good. It sits about 1.5-2 feet away with a carotid pattern. My latest project is dialing the Yeti Pro in to use Viacom Pro and Voice Attack. Still experimenting with settings though.

Not Recognizing TM TPR T.Pendular Pedals
Tusker replied to Tusker's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yup, that was it. I was not on Axis Commands, but rather putzing around in other menus. Thank you. -
I have a set of TPR pedals that I've been using fine for about a year. I recently switched to a Dell Aurora desktop and now the pedals have stopped working. If I run the TM Control Panel, that app sees the pedals and says that they are functioning correctly. I can see the three Axis bars in the TM Control Panel responding appropriately to my inputs. Once I fire-up DCS the thee axis indicators in the Control Panel turn completely green and there is no longer any demonstrated response to my inputs. If I go to Controls in DCS Settings and try to assign the pedals to L or R Rudder or Wheel Brake, DCS will not acknowledge any Key'Button input. DCS will, however, show an input column in the Controls page or the pedals, but there are no actions bound to the pedals. I've disconnected and reconnected the USB several times. I've updated the drivers,... to no avail. I'm also using a Warthog/FA-18 stick and TM throttles, which both work appropriately. Any thoughts? -eric

Hi, my name is Eric and I've been a single-player on DCS for less than a year. I thought that I might reach out for some thoughts and advice. I suppose the bottom-line question is, can I use a desktop mic for high-quality sound in a multiplayer game? Right now I'm using a Thrustmaster T.Flight U.S. Airforce headset with attached microphone, as well as a TrackIR TrackClip Pro attached to the side. I'm looking to really enhance my audio both input and output. There are several options, but it seems the desk mics, such as the Blue Yeti Pro, give you better sound than many/most/all headset-mounted mics. By way of background, again I'm using Track IR at the moment, but will probably dip my toes into the VR waters at some point. I don't intend to publish video content but am looking for a very high-quality set-up for multiplayer and streaming. Many thanks from Chicago. eric

That works, may give that a try. Cheers.

Thanks Mr. S. Do the 600s have a built in mic?

I'm currently using the Thrustmaster T.Flight U.S. Air Force headphones with TrackIR with a TrackClip Pro attached to the side of the headphones. That's two cables coming off the headphones, which tend to get tangled, twisted and jumbled together. I'm considering a new set of phones and have seen a lot of talk about noise cancelling, wireless phones like the Sony Noise Canceling WH1000XM3. Any recommendations on phones? I think my requirements are noise cancelling, wireless, good microphone for Voice Attack and other verbal comms, and the ability to mount the TrackClip Pro. Cheers, -eric

Really struggling with transition to landing config
Tusker replied to SPS48A's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Great post. I had to trial and error that over about 20-hours of flying to figure it out on my own :) Many thanks. -
Is there a VFA-103 skin that is still working?

Thoughts on New System - Alienware Aurora Gaming Desktop

I understand the pricing, but there may be intrinsic factors such as convenience, support, et. al., that some are willing to pay for. -

$3.3k, just the system. The HOTAS, Throttles, rudders, Track IR, etc., I already have. -
All, I'm a bit new to gaming in general and multiplayer specifically. I have a great opportunity to purchase a new machine. I'm currently running DCS on a Dell laptop: XPS9360-7336SLV 13.3" Laptop (7th Generation Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. The system that I have spec-ed out is a Dell Alienware Aurora with the following bits and bobs. Does anyone have any thoughts on things that I can modify/add/subtract? I intend to only use the system for DCS, both TrackIR and VR (HP Reverb). 9th Gen Intel® Core™ i9 9900 NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2080 Ti 11GB GDDR6 64GB Dual Channel DDR4 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (Boot) + 2TB 7200RPM 3.5" SATA HDD, Alienware 850 Watt Power Supply with High Performance Liquid Cooling These items I have already and am very happy with them. Thrustmaster F/A-18C Hornet™ HOTAS Add-On Grip, TPR Pendular Rudders Warthog™ Dual Throttles Foxx Mounts Stick and Throttle Cheers, -eric

Being new to flying sims and DCS, I’ve been struggling with many aspects of flying the hornet. As I’ve practiced straight-in VFR approaches I’ve found that I was having trouble holding the aircraft on speed, lined up, wings level, and at at constant glide slope. To fix this I went up to altitude, dropped the air speed, dirty-ed up the aircraft, and held an azimuth at on speed for several approaches from 10,000’. What I noticed is that the aircraft, once trimmed to on speed, will like a certain airspeed, maybe 137 knots. Instead of chasing the E-Bracket, I watched the airspeed and adjusted the throttle to find that perfect airspeed to maintain the appropriate glide slope. After a few hours of this I was able to make approaches, on speed, wings level... all good. Cheers, -Tusker

Thank you. So many questions as I have ZERO gaming experience. I’m reading and watching everything I can find so that I don’t ask questions that can easily be answered. “There are no stupid questions... only stupid people”. eric

Sorry. Compatible is what I meant to ask. I’m looking at purchasing a headset and TrackIR Pro, and I want to ensure that they play nicely together. Sorry for the confusion. Cheers from Chicago. Eric

Is this TM headset comparable with a TrackIR Pro? It seems to be. Eric
