  1. I have gears coming form these folks for all 12 EMI gauges: http://www.servolink.com/gearspec.htm There's also these: http://www.servocity.com/html/gears___sprockets.html Next up for me is one of the gauges with the little inset dial. I haven't really thought about the coaxial shaft gauges. Maybe something out of a cheap clock ... Cheers, Colin
  2. I don't know if these boards will work with Helios out of the box, but I firmly believe (meaning of course that I haven't a shred of evidence) that they can be made to work. There's an SDK that lets you access the board through either the virtual serial port or native USB. There's also a command line interface -- here's a link to the appnote about controlling servos with AutoHotkey Application Note: Using AutoHotkey . Maybe someone who knows Helios can give us an idea of how hard it would be. Cheers, Colin
  3. Thanks. I haven't actually done anything with Helios yet. Just no time. Maybe this weekend. Cheers, Colin
  4. I don't think so. Maybe one of these guys: http://www.pololu.com/catalog/category/12 No. To quote the Product Description on the above page: "It is not normally used as an actuator, as there is no way of commanding it to move to a particular position, as a standard RC servo does." That part could work :-) Cheers, Colin
  5. Outstanding. Colin
  6. I think I'd like one of these: http://www.gentexcorp.com/default.aspx?pageid=2602 Cheers, Colin

  7. Very cool stuff, Mike. Colin
  8. Good man. Thank you! Colin
  9. Cool. One other question for you Red, if you don't mind. It's just that sometimes I don't understand the simplest things. Like how is the bezel attached to the body on these things? I've got the milspec for these style gauges right in front of me and I still can't figure it out. Thanks, Colin
  10. Cool.
  11. This is fantastic. Do you notice any issues with projecting onto a curved surface? Thanks, Colin
  12. [quote=KLaFaille;1290333@Colin - I'll see what I can do. Once again it is amazing that something that seems so delicate and precise can handle the abuse that aircraft put them through. Red Thanks Red. One question: what does the "Ng" on the face, up by the 20, represent? Colin
  13. One trick that works pretty well for an object with little depth, is to put it on a flat bed scanner. I first saw this in a photography magazine; an archaeologist was using it for arrow heads. A six inch steel ruler doesn't hurt the composition either. Cheers, Colin
  14. Here's another: This one is an HS-311 geared to 270 deg. As you can see, this one has no trouble doing full scale. It seems to have lots of power. And it's pretty cheap. It's a bit largish but stiill very usable. Here's a comparison of the three servos I've used so far, showing relative force, speed, and price: #1. HS-225BB__ 54 .14 $18 #2. HS-55______15 .17 $10 #3. HS-311_____42 .19 $8 Edit: Added first one: Cheers, Colin
  15. Very nice indeed. You couldn't post some more pics of the inards of that gauge, could you? Cheers, Colin
  16. Thanks again for your help, DM. You are a river to your people :-) Cheers, Colin
  17. Good one. Thanks for posting. Colin
  18. If you're lucky.
  19. That's right. http://www.servocity.com/html/servo_mount_gears.html Cheers, Colin
  20. How come you don't know? Haven't you taken one apart yet? Colin
  21. Reviews are not encouraging.
  22. That's what I thought. Thanks man. Colin
  23. In this photo it looks like there's an "OFF" flag on the temp gauges: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/AWA1/001-100/walk096_A-10%20cockpit/images%20Rick%20Chin/Rick%20Chin%20A-10%20Cockpit%2023.jpg As if that one wasn't complicated enough already. Cheers, Colin
  24. Thanks a lot for this Mike. I've been using servocity: http://www.servocity.com/html/48_pitch_plain_bore_gears.html but their shipping's a killer. Cheers, Colin
  25. Thanks y2kiah. The face is attached to the standoffs with countersunk flathead bolts. The artwork, in this case overhead projector film, is then glued on top. Cheers, Colin
