Thanks, that's good info but I did know that. I think I'm phrasing the question badly. So I have the latest version of the A4 (2.0 beta 2) installed. Mechanically in the game, from a cold start on instant action in the caucuses, how do I call for ground power? The option isn't in the comms menu like it used to be for me.

I installed the new A4, its been awhile since I've played with this mod so forgive me if I'm missing the obvious. I went to instant action and a selected a cold start in the Caucuses (also Syria), and in both cases my comms menu only offered the F5 - ATC options. No ground power (the canopy was open). Am I missing something obvious? Only other note was the overall volume seemed very low, but wasn't in other modules. Took a first flight though and its sporty and interesting to fly! Big congrats to the team on this achievement!

Thanks very much!

Sorry if I'm being dense, but this is exactly what I'll need for my simpit Im starting. What would I do with this lua file? Is it used by a particular third party app to actually do the export?

Does the forthcoming EFM open the opportunity for potentially implementing Aerial refueling? Very exciting news! Quick question - I'm interested in building a simpit centered on the DCS A4 - does anyone in this community have a bead on a source for an A4 cockpit/ forward fuselage or Cockpit Procedure Trainer? They are so compact I'd love to get my hands on a real one and retrofit rather than build it out of MDF.

Update: Thanks so much for this post - got it worked out. It puzzled me that the lower row of function pushbuttons worked correctly, when the numeric PBs didn't even though they are the same model. Your post made me look closer and realize that although they were all wired the same, I installed the numeric buttons upside down! Resulting in soldering the wrong pins exactly as you described. Just got to switch 9 wires and resolder and should be good to go! Thanks again!

Yes, very helpful! I do have the datasheets but they were all semi Greek to me. I tried the ole 'touch the wires to different pins and stop when it appears to be working in windows" So I will take another looks this weekend and get it sorted. Thank you very much, it's a relief!

So I finished my UFC finally and it's mostly working great - wanted to flag this though because I think I made an expensive mistake. I purchased these exact buttons and while they do feel great and fit perfectly, as listed these are the ON-(ON) buttons. Meaning they are basically always on, and momentarily cycle off when you depress until they go on again. They sorta still work in game, but the effect is after you push them once, the button stays depressed permanently on the virtual UFC. With subsequent presses the Virtual button will cycle out and then depress again. It still kind of works butbits squirrely and visually kind of aggravating. I am a complete novice at this so I just bought what was recommended on the thread here, but I'm assuming what we wanted is the OFF-(ON) version of this switch? I tried searching but couldn't find one. So I think I need to start over on the PB's, or go back to the ones Brun originally listed. Unless I'm missing something or someone knows of a workaround? In the windows game controller all the PB's are permanently illuminated.

Raven One: upcoming DLC campaign for F/A-18 Hornet
wereferret replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I searched the thread and found a couple oblique references to this question but not a clear answer. Is this campaign flyable in multiplayer (just with a friend as a wingman)? Or is it like other missions where you can break it open in the mission editor and drop in another player controllable aircraft? -
Update: On a hunch, I tried soldering two leads to the middle terminal and taking each one to buttons 29 and 30, and then attaching two more leads to the A and B terminals and then connecting to the remaining pin on buttons 29 and 30. Now when I rotate the encoder it fires both buttons in both directions. I feel like I'm getting close but still not sure what I'm missing... Also curious what settings for Pulse Width and ratio worked well on the BBI-64 Encoder software. If I change anything other than 1:1 and 48ms it does not register a signal at all.
-
That makes sense, but the BBI-64 doesn't have a ground connection, on 64 independent buttons with two pins each, as far as I can tell. I know there is a way to make it work because this is exactly the setup Brun used, hoping he or someone who followed his method can post a screenshot of how they got the encoders to work. Picture of the board and wiring so far. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fAsTO2p4OMKJKVr0i2p6TqQ3bFCNCfjb Edit: Looking at Page 3 of the this thread Brun posted a picture of his wiring, and it looks like one of the encoders (with the brown/white/gray wires) are going somewhere - but I can't tell how they are actually wired on the BBI-64 board. The other encoder weirdly has FOUR wires coming out (should only be three pins?), but covered in a sheath so I can't see what is connected to what. I dunno what to think.

With COVID keeping me at home, I have some time to get back to finishing this project. I am stuck on getting the rotary encoders to work with the BB-64. I am using the same encoders the Brun recommended at the beginning of the threat (from Mouser). Also keep in mind this is my first electronics/wiring project. Ever. OK so the relevant parts of the rotary encoder are terminals A and B, which represent the encoder being turned left and right, and C, in the middle. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fCN4fOf3TmFSQyKyk_Nw5aSHLKhWea78 Each of the buttons on the BB-64 require 2 pins - If I wire position 28 to A and C, it works great, then position 29 to B and C, that's great, but I can't figure out how to "share" C between them both. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fGBKfC70hbjc_p4b9yYbJU5KUKDd3rtQ I made a splitter with stuff lying around: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fNYKx2iKmGeWUvFhdUn5eWWE2ECLOcU_ but no response at all - I'm assuming because its a digital signal? I saw a couple places on the internet stating "You don't need to wire the ground © to both, just do it once", but then only the fully wired button works. What am I missing here? Can anyone share a picture of how you wired your encoders to the BB-64? Thanks very much!

SRS allows you to easily change the freq without using the aircraft radio.

I don't know if any particular squadron that focuses on the A4, but hoggit runs a beta "Georgia at Cold War" server that features only second gen fighters. The A4 and free MB339 mods are both required to join the server. I've had good luck finding a wingman in the A4 in the hobbit discord and then flying on GaCW.
-
This is great to hear that development is continuing! Did he mention if any progress was coming to add functionality to the ILS needles?
-
Having a blast with the mod! Was wondering now that the walleye is out for the Hprnet, can it be adapted to the A4? I'm assuming the radar screen would double as the targeting tv screen?
-
Hoggit has a "GaW at Cold War" open beta server that features the A4. That would be a good way to hop in and connect with other Scooter drivers.

$68.55 for the CRS Panel. My only concern is Brun didnt build it to necessarily integrate with a 3rd Cougar MFD, which I plan to do. So when I get it I will need to see if I can dremel it out to accommodate another cougar.
-
So this is my first electronics project so forgive my ignorance of the basics. I'm ordering the components and getting a soldering iron. What type/gauge of wire and connectors should I be getting?
-
My Shapeways order arrived! Also note Brun uploaded the bearing/course panel on shapeways too and will follow this in a few days in the mail! By the way this is a brilliant design, everything slots together really well.

Is it possible to manually designate a waypoint on the HSI using the TDC Cursor? For example, when I get a CAS 9-line and put the cursor over the spot relative to Bulls, it would be nice to just drop a waypoint there. Am I missing something, is that feature not implemented yet, or is that not a feature of the actual Hornet?
-
Ha my first ever cat shot inadvertently tested this! I forgot to drop the wings! I actually flew a good bit and was like "uh this...does NOT feel right!" Before figuring it out and ejecting at the last second. She definitely sorta flew a little ways!
-
Just ordered mine! Super Excited! As others have noted though, I think it is a weird choice of real estate on that panel attachment to have the ground power switches on there, especially when it already deviates in other ways from the actual panel (moving pivot heat switches for example). I've never even touched them in the sim and have no idea what they do. Would be sweet to have a physical landing gear handle, or jettison button, or EW rotary.
-
Were you able to get the HDG/CRS select uploaded? I didn't see it on the Shapeways page. That would be super helpful for the setup I'm about to attempt. Nice work!
