  3. DCS: SA-342 Gazelle February 2024 update Facelift The upcoming update for the SA-342 Gazelle will introduce new features, fixes, quality of life improvements as well as a facelift to the external models and textures. We're gradually replacing the original liveries that stem from the release back in 2016 with highly detailed renditions that make full use of physically based rendering techniques (PBR), many of which are included in this update. The SA-342 Gazelle minigun variant not only received an update on the M134 and gunner models, it now features the first iteration of our gunner AI capable of making short work of any soft target it can get within its sights. Community Contributors Over the past few months Polychop Simulations has been working closely together with a number of very dedicated and exceptionally skilled community members who have shown an interest in contributing to the module by putting in their time, effort and expertise resulting in what is essentially a graphical overhaul for the SA-342 Gazelle as well as an extensive set of kneeboard pages and documentation on the all new French liveries that can be found in the module's Doc folder, or more continently, attached to this post. Input system overhaul With the upcoming update of the Gazelle we have overhauled the inputs system. This means that it is likely that you will have to rebind all of your controls for the Gazelle module. The inputs for the Gazelle are now split into separate categories for the three positions - Pilot, Copilot and Gunner (the latter for the Minigun variant only). The inputs system works differently depending on whether you are flying with other players in your aircraft ("multicrew"). When in "multicrew" mode, each player will only have access to the inputs according to their position. However, when flying the Gazelle in a singleplayer mission, or flying on a multiplayer server but without other players in the aircraft, the player will have access to multiple input categories depending on the position they are in. In short, this allows a single player Pilot to also use the Copilot inputs, and vice versa. The priority (in the event of two inputs being bound to the same switch) is determined by the currently occupied position. For example, if you have the 'Fire Laser' input from the Copilot bound to "Button 1", and the "Force Trim" from the Pilot inputs also bound to "Button 1", then pressing "Button 1" will action different behaviours depending on whether you are sitting in the Pilot or Copilot seat. However if you bind them to different buttons, you can use both from either seat. The available inputs are as follows: - Pilot position - access to Pilot and Copilot inputs (Pilot priority) - Copilot position - access to Copilot and Pilot inputs (Copilot priority) - Gunner position - access to Gunner and Pilot inputs (Gunner priority) Please note that we expect further disruption to the inputs system as we continue to bring improvements and add various missing inputs to the Gazelle. We thank you for your patience and understanding. The future While we have come to a point at which it is now all hands on deck for the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior module's final stretch, Polychop is determined to keep updating the SA-342 Gazelle module on all levels including but not limited to major features such as an English (Empirial units) cockpit, a George like AI pilot/gunner and the transition to the new rotor blur system seen in more recent rotary wing modules. We'd like to be transparent on the fact that the aforementioned final stretch of the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior module development will have a certain impact on the development of new features for the SA-342 Gazelle for the next few updates. 4. DCS: BO-105 Development Screenshots by Miltech-5: The above screenshot shows the current state of the Bo-105, which will be available in three versions: the German Bo 105 PAH 1A1/VBH, the Swedish Hkp9A, and the South Korean Bo-105 as AI only. Aside from the liveries, all three versions will have different internal devices and are offered as separate versions. The external and internal 3D models of all Bo-105 versions will have a high level of detail that is close to photo realistic. All movable parts of the helicopter have been modelled, from rotor blade articulation to circuit breakers. Initial tests have shown the great potential of their new development strategy for internal machine logic. It fits well into the existing DCS API and environment. The program logic changed from event control to situation control. This means that all devices have their own program and are interconnected within a global system. The advantage is that specific control situations do not require special coding. The result is an auto-generated output that is dependent on all the connected devices. An example of this is autorotation. The handling is initiated by the corresponding pilot inputs. The rotor system, as an independent device, reacts like a real Bo-105. Even non programmatically planned situations are handled realistically. This system is termed MEDUSA by Miltech-5. It is a multithreaded system that can handle all devices in different threads. The external and cockpit models, electric system, engines, fuel supply, and rotor system are in advanced development states. The next steps are focused on flight performance, handling, and fine tuning the Bo-105’s behaviours.
  5. OH-58D(R) Kiowa Warrior Module FAQ Q: What version of the OH-58D Kiowa will we get? A:OH-58D(R) CDS4, dating from around 2016. However, the mission editor has access to options to customize the aircraft to represent older airframes with systems such as AN/ALQ-144 Infra-red Countermeasures, the Pilot Display Unit and the removal of the Mast Mounted Sight. Q: Can I shoot the M4 out of the door? A: Yes Q: Is there going to be multicrew? A: Yes Q: Will there be a data link or similar? A: The Improved Data Modem (IDM) is a similar system that allows for transmission of data between player aircraft. This includes but is not limited to the following features: Free-text Messaging, Target Sharing and Remote Hellfire Missions. The OH-58D is also equipped with the Level 2 Manned-Unmanned System (L2MUMS) which allows for video and data transmission between player controlled OH-58Ds and AI UAVs. Q: What price tag is it going to have? A: 69,99 USD Q: Will it have a George AI? A:The OH-58D will not have a ‘George’ AI on release but this feature is our highest priority after release. Q: Will it be on Early Access or Pre-Purchase? If so, will there be a discount? A: The OH-58D will not see an early access release or pre-purchase period. Q: Will a paintkit be available on release? A: This is very unlikely Q: What weapons will be available for this aircraft? A: M3P .50-caliber machine gun, various 2.75 inch rockets (including laser guided APKWS), AGM-114K Hellfire, Air-To-Air-Stinger missiles and the trusty M4 carbine on the dash. Q: Can we throw the smoke grenades that are on the dashboard? A: Yes Q: Does the Kiowa have a HMD (Helmet Mounted Display) or HUD? A: The OH-58D has an Optical Display Assembly (ODA) (also referred to as Anvis Display Symbology System - ADSS) which is a helmet mounted sight for use with Night Vision Goggles. Optionally the Pilot Display Unit (PDU) can be installed which provides a limited HUD for weapons symbology. Q: Does the Kiowa have a data cartridge? A: Yes - the Personal Computer Data Transfer System (PC-DTS) is a data cartridge system that can save and load data to/from a JSON file. The saved data includes Routes, Waypoints, Target Points, Radio frequencies, Notepad data and more. Q: Will the FARP Asset pack that was shown in 2019 be released with the Kiowa? A: No, sadly it will not. While it seemed like a great idea back in 2019, the implications of having to support and maintain 30+ assets indefinitely have the potential to become a burden on our small team. Q: Are force feedback controllers supported? A: Testing this is in progress. Q: Is the flight model of the Gazelle representative of the Kiowa’s flight model? A: The flight model (and all other areas of development) of the OH-58D has undergone a rigorous testing process with both our internal SMEs and those from Eagle Dynamics. During the entire development process we have had access to - and direct feedback from - experienced Kiowa pilots and crew chiefs who contribute directly to the validation of the flight model and systems of the OH-58D.
  6. From Polychop Discord: **DCS: SA-342 Gazelle update news** With the release of the upcoming SA-342 Gazelle update fast approaching we will be updating you about what to expect in the first iteration of what started out as a flight model update over the next few days. Starting today by publishing the change log that we have accumulated so far. The change log is subject to change as even today we're still working on new features and fixes but should be indicative of the scope of this update. With this announcement we'd also like to reach out to all mission creators to emphasize on the fact that we're trying to reduce the amount of Gazelle variants available in DCS World by essentially combining these versions. In the upcoming patch, the SA-342 Mistral has become redundant and is now only available as an AI aircraft to ensure mission compatibility. The SA-342 Gazelle has essentially been absorbed by the SA-342L which, in its now much more modular form, is able to be outfitted with the mistral ATAM system. We ask mission creators to be aware of this change and update their (multiplayer)missions accordingly. We apologize for the inconvenience.
