I hope this finds you all in good health,
Before I say anything, I know that what I am about so say will most likely never happen for a thousand reasons, but let a guy dream for a minute.
Imagine for just a second if we had a full fidelity U-2 in DCS. Just imagine the pure flying joy of getting in such an aircraft. Imagine being able to say you mastered the world's hardest virtual aircraft. Imagine the various mission profiles you could fly across the great, strategic maps we have in DCS. I think it is at least worth a little discussion; even though, it will never happen.
I understand that the aircraft is far too secretive to ever be produced by a developer, and that it would be considered a "boring" weapon system by some who typically lob Fox 3s into fur balls, but for those of us who think critically I think it would be an awesome strategic asset for users in a multiplayer environment. Imagine the GCI/AWACS being able to direct CAPs and Strikers into precise areas even when fog of war is on due to the Dragon Lady's roughly simulate sensors.
From a pilot's perspective it would be magnificent. Especially during the "launch" and landing phases of operations. Much like Jester in the Tomcat, I imagine a virtual safety pilot right behind you as you brought down the beast at Al Dhafra, an actual U-2 base. Then a feeling the aircraft fall to the left or right as an F-250 drives by to insert the pogos. If the Yak and Eagle II can make it in DCS I am sure a U-2 can too, if only there was a chance.
I know this will not happen, but it is a fun thought.
