Thrustmaster and Warranty Service for HOTAS WH
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
OK. So my parts came a few days ago, and the customs forms show a declared value of 20 euro for both parts. So perhaps their shipping costs are a lot more than I estimated. I am going to ask TM Support for breakdown on the costs and also if other cheaper shipping alternatives are available. At which point I'll decide if to keep the HOTAS. -
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I am doing things correctly as far as engaging point track mode and TMS FWD Long, Its just that the TGP seems to lose the target so easily during some turns. I will try to do a track to illustrate. I think I will also delete my TM Hotas WH in-game profile just to rule that out as well.
-
Hey All, I took a bit of a break from DCS between version 1.2.2 and just started back with 1.2.7. Anyways, I am finding that the tgp is losing tracking even when I engage point track or inr-p and make a simple turn to the target. The behavior feels different from earlier versions. For example, I have a target at my 3 o'clock and engage inr-p and start a turn towards the target. By the time the target is at my 12 o'clock the tgp has lost tracking and I have to acquire by slewing again. Usually the target isnt too far out of tgp sight but i usually have to slew to re-acquire. There are time when i have engaged point tracking and have the same problem. This is happening more often than not and is very frustrating and makes gun runs a nightmare. What am I missing here?

Thrustmaster and Warranty Service for HOTAS WH
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If they are using FedEx, DHL or some other expedited service then I can understand the cost. Shipping would end up being about 40% of the cost. There are cheaper alternatives such as regular mail which would be a lot cheaper but a little bit slower. My parts came from France as well, but I thought that TM were doing some of their warranty stuff through Canada just to cut down on the logistical costs. I just don't believe replacement parts should cost this much. -
I'm interested in hearing he experience from those of you that have had to go through TM for warranty service. I recently had a stuck China hat and also a shorting button behind the joystick latch. TM quoted me a price of $110 USD to send me replacement buttons. I was shocked at this since that is 25% the price of the whole unit. I'm a little bit annoyed to need replacement parts as the unit hasn't been used that much (only 2 yrs old). In reality,it has seen very light usage over the past 12 months. Even after getting replacement parts, I still have to do the work of actually installing the new buttons, so $110 doesn't even get me a fully working unit. Is this their normal pricing to to repair/replace something as simple as a couple of buttons ? I'm not too impressed with all of this as I will be very very upset if I have to shell out another $100 anytime soon. I'm actually debating putting my unit up for sale as it is starting to seem like a bit of a liability when it comes to repair. Particularly given the limited usage that it has seen.

Just wanted to share a workaround that I will be using until the damage model is corrected. I created triggers for the SA10 radars that the AI was struggling with during SEAD (example FC3 Mission 5 and 6). The trigger is, when unit damaged, explode unit. Pretty simple. I did this for each of the radars in the FC3 campaign that were key to mission completion.
-
Ok. I will need to have a look at my mission setup to see if something was off with my testing. Thanks for looking into this!
-
Thanks Dusty. Regarding the engagement range. I think this should be given some attention as well. I've done some testing the AI are waiting far too long to start firing. I'm not sure if they are unable to detect the SAM site until very close but it usually ends badly. Can you clarify what should be a reasonable engagement range for AI SEAD groups targeting an SA10 site ?
-
Have the devs acknowledged the issues with SEAD as a yet (as of yesterday's update 5/27) ? These issues make it pretty much impossible to complete FC3-F15 Mission 5. So far I have seen 2 issues, SEAD flights are often times not engaging the S300 until they are ~10nm, sometimes even closer. I would expect them to engage long before this. Second, I have see it take 3 AGM-88s just to bring one of the S300 radars to less than 30% health. Can someone confirm if this is working as designed ? I would have expected a single AGM-88 to take out a radar.

Tacview shows blank 3D window
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
This was resolved by going back to the 13.1 drivers. -
Hey Guys, I just recently started using TacView and had it setup and working fine. I upgraded DCSW to 1.23 just around the same time as I upgraded to the AMD CCC 13.3 Beta Drivers (HD7950). Since these two upgrades all I get in TacView is a blank window. The window is blank once TacView loads, and stays that way even when I open a DCSWORLD ACMI File. I'm sort of out of ideas as far as repairing TacView. Could the AMD drivers be the issue ? I am wanting to avoid uninstalling the GFX drivers as I have Eyefinity working well and not disturbing my monitor layouts. Something that I have not been able to do for 3 generations of AMD cards until now. I know the recorded files are fine as they can be viewed on other machines. Just not on the machine where I play DCS. Tacview does not give me any errors... So far I have tried the following: 1. Upgraded to Tacview 1.2.4 2. Uninstalled Tacview multiple times 3. Cleared all remnants of Tacview from the windows registry I'm attaching a screenshot of what Tacview looks like when it loads: As I said, I"m pretty new to Tacview so I am open to any ideas on what the issue could be here. Thanks!

So it seems my issue was that in some missions the radio menu was already on screen from the base/farp. While in others where I started in the air the menus didn't show up at all. This is why it looked as though the menus were only there "sometimes". So I guess we now either have to use the SPU or simply enable easy communications. Thanks for the help guys!
-
Thanks for the link. I didnt realize there was a new radio implementation.
-
So I spent an hour or so today tweaking the multi-monitor and radio commands etc. using the info in some other threads and I'm having a bizarre issue with the radio menu not showing up in some missions. I moved the radio menu and message log to my center monitor (3 screen eyefinity). I was testing using the KA50 South Ossetia Pirates Mission as I tweaked the menu, and positioned everything perfectly. My problem is that when I go into campaign missions or even the quick start missions the radio menu does not show up at all. Has anyone seen this before ? I've seen comments from folks that the radio menu is broken in 1.2.0 but is it really THIS broken ? One odd thing is that it seems to be working in the few A10 Missions that I've tried. Also, I'm using the default \ for the radio menu. See cropped screenshot from my center monitor when the menus actually show up:

TM HOTAS WH - china hat and slew stick getting stuck
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So I actually returned the first unit and after a month or so the china hat on the second unit is getting stuck. Seems like this is more of an issue than TM would care to admit. I'm any issues with the new part ? I may have to go down this same route with TM support. I wonder if there is anything different about the part they shipped you versus the part that comes from the factory... -

I'm pretty sure they will help you, even if you were out of warranty. I think what SOME of us have seen so far is that getting them to acknowledge your issue is a bit like pulling teeth. Patience is required I suppose. -
TM HOTAS WH - china hat and slew stick getting stuck
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, please let us know how the lube works. Mine would work for about 3 or 4 times then stick as well. Not sure about dirt in the switch after 3 months, mine was a week old. Anyways, let us know how the lube works. I'm still considering getting a 2nd unit and may have to deal with this one way or another. :noexpression: -
TM HOTAS WH - china hat and slew stick getting stuck
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah, I already sent it back to to retailer though. Kinda sounds like what I was dealing with. I think they were ready to have it shipped after my last e-mail, but by that time I was pretty pissed. I think I got my point accross to them in my last e-mail. I wasn't about to play games with them, sending it back to retailer was easier. As for your buddy... asking to send back the stick if a button on the throttle is stuck...that is outrageous. Question: For those of you that have had to RMA stick or throttle. Does TM actually repair your unit or do they just replace ? -
TM HOTAS WH - china hat and slew stick getting stuck
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I just got a bad unit perhaps. As much as I loved my X52 from day 1, I actually had 3 of those in my first 6 months...but that only cost me $80 so I was a bit more forgiving. I just need to decide if I wanna try a 2nd WH. As far as TM support, I actually did contact them for clarification on the china hat sticking. I was pretty sure it wasn't supposed to do that but only had the unit for a day or so before i noticed it. In any case, I wasn't too happy with them, particularly when they kept dancing around my question and then told me that I need to update my drivers and firmware and see if it resolves the issue. At that point I realized they were wasting my time since it was obviously a mechanical issue with the switch. I eventually mailed the unit back to the retailer. -
Looking for some feedback from TM Warthog owners that have had their unit for a few months. How do you guys feel about the build quality of the unit now that you've had it for a while ? Any buttons stop working or sticking ? I just returned one unit to a retailer for the china hat being stuck in the fwd position. Have any of you guys experienced this ? Is this something could have been fixed with lube ? I also had an issue with the slew stick getting stuck in-game (not physically stuck) while slewing in DCSW. I would have to let go of the slew stick and press it again for it to continue slewing. I think this might have been a software/setup issue though. Anyone experience this with the default DCSW mappings ? I only had the unit for 5 days or so and I was definitely impressed with the accuracy of the stick; the throttle I wasn't in love with so much. At this point I'm just wondering if I should give it a 2nd chance. $450+ just seems like an awful lot of cash for something that seemed a bit fragile. I currently have a 2.5 yrs old x52 and I'd really like a more accurate stick at this point. So its either get 2nd HOTAS WH or get a CH Fighterstick and keep my X52 throttle.

Looking for feedback from usb monitor users
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So I got the AOC USB monitor a few days ago. I'm pretty happy so far. The size was almost perfect for my desk. It sits right below my center monitor. Even with Eyefinity the FPS is still 25-30ish with Max GFX settings in-game. Can't complain too much at all. I'll try to post a picture of it. -
The label plate on the throttle looks like it was designed to be remmovable so suspect we would see a new throttle faceplate for EDs next sim rather than a new HOTAS from TM.

Looking for feedback from usb monitor users
goon3r replied to goon3r's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'll give the AOC-USB monitor a try. It should be here in the next day or so. Much of my initial concerns about the USB monitors came from PeterP's post from here:http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1413270&postcount=9 I'd really love to get a vga monitor since my card can certainly handle the processing directly but it seems that I'll be looking at craigslist or ebay for one of those if the USB monitor option doesn't work out. -
Ive seen several posts where folks are advising against using usb monitors for mfd export. Yet still, I see many people with dual usb monitors with mfds that seem to be quite happy with them. Im looking to run eyefinity 3 +1 and Im struggling to find a widescreen monitor small enough to fit on my desk with dvi/vga.I dont have any real mounting options and need something that wont block my center screen. So, Ive been looking at getting this 15" usb:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005SEZR0G/ref=asc_df_B005SEZR0G1947795?smid=A2NG4HB43UEDVL&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B005SEZR0G&hvpos=none&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=98135413213985665&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt= This would easily fit on my desk but Im just concerned since its usb. what kind of performance can I expect with 6048x1080 +1 usb ? I have a 7950. Also, out of curiosity what monitors size monitors are u guys running 3 +1 using ?

Usually my finer adjustments are a pretty quick, its a heck of a lot less than .5s. Still, I'm pretty sure you're right that I'm giving too much trim, even with my short flick of the hat. I think I'll try remapping to a different hat on the stick. Lets see how that works. I've read that post a couple of times already effte, that was quite the writeup you did.
