  1. I have already ordered my CV1 based on my experience with the DK2 and it as everything I need for Flight simulation its been well tested and seems reliable there seems to be few software problems. I think as far as technology getting better it is already at a very high standard the head tracking is excellent the performance is reasonable and with the higher resolution screens the image will look pretty damned good. I have been using the DK2 for 18 months and would not fly without it.
  2. There is another aspect to this and that is the Software developer because if they do not get their bit right then you can have the best headset that's available and the experience will be poor. I am basically a P3D and DCS user and that's because they are the only flightsim with VR support and I hope that the likes of Battle of Stalingrad are working on VR because I think they will get left behind. The older flightsims that will probably never have support because development as finished and will eventually disappear, unless Steam integrates into all its games which then means for those guys that still use the older games then the Vive is the way to go.. Another thing the first generation headsets will soon be replaced with the next generation so is it worth spending more than you have to at this moment in time.
  3. I think the decision will be made by many on what genre they tend to be interested in it sounds like the Vive would probably suit the first person shooter type of game. I am predominately a flight sim enthusiast with a bit of car sim thrown in so leaping around the room would not really be my thing. For me the main issues are image and performance how comfortable are they and reliability. I was reading about several up and coming headsets which I believe are being developed in China at half the price but does half the price mean poor manufacturing quality. I think if I did not have the DK2 I would have waited but I could not fly without that total immersion. I mean lets face it the vive and the Oculus are going to be close on spec and it will come down to the individual their requirements and have they got the finances available to buy it.
  4. There maybe a DK2 going free soon because if I can't get my signature to go smaller then I am going to launch my computer out of the window so I wont need it is driving me to distraction.. I have tried everything!
  5. I think regarding having only one eye and 3D for whoever it might be if it gave them much better quality then its a bonus. I ordered the Oculus Rift for several reasons. One reason was what do we know about the Vive, very little will it be a winner, who knows, maybe, maybe not how much testing as it had we don't know. The Oculus how much testing as it had plenty there are thousands of DK2s out there. Will it have a better FOV than it does now, yes the lenses are now shaped to take that into account. Will it have a better resolution yes it will. I can read the instruments in the cockpit of the Bf109 with the DK2 so with better resolution it must be a good experience. The DK2 I found to be very comfortable so the CV1 looks more than promising. I have been reading some of the forums regarding VR and there will always be those that are just not interested those that fall in love with it. I read a few days ago someone commented that its not worth bothering with for another 5yrs it will take that long to sort all the problems out, but they have ironed out most the problems. One thing I will say to anyone that as not tried it yet be prepared because if you do you will have to buy one or you won't bother flying, I think its that good! Regarding performance the game ready drivers that are available now from Nvidia will allow sli they are ready it now just needs the game developers to do their bit and I am led believe that it is not a major job (Say he who knows nothing about computer programming) I have one GTX980 fitted and DCS performs well with it its a great experience and it is stable I don't over clock my system so there is more to be had from it. So for me its the Oculus just on what we know.
  6. It surprising how you get to know where the controls are I have a purpose built control module I am just building another from real Tornado parts so I can set all the switchs etc where I want them and using the leap motion sensor which fits on the front of the oculus it picks up the movement of your hands. In P3D\FSX using the FlyInside software you an switch switches etc you see an image of your hand and you can use them in the clickable cockpits. its not perfect yet but its only a matter of time. Yes a good graphics card is essential and at the end of the day you ave full 360 in every direction if you can turn your head the you can see and the tracking as been flawless for me. I feel that it gives so much realism to flying combat it as good as it gets you are sitting in the cockpit you want to reach out and touch everything when you first fly with oculus do loop and feel your stomach go with it that goes away after a while I would imagine its the same for real pilots
  7. I am in the SouthWest flight sim group we meet once a month we have a member with one eye it made no difference to him he still had full 3D I don't how but he was as happy as hell! My eye sight is not the best I have to wear glasses all the time but when using the Oculus I don't need them.
  8. I have been using the DK2 for 18 months and have been Alpha and beta testing for FlyInside with FSX and P3D I can honestly say that if I didn't have one now then I would not fly. Yes the resolution is not there yet but it will be with the CV1 along with the field of view. I predict that within the first year of release if you fly on line and don't have one be prepared because the difference it makes to visibility is unbelievable. Oculus have ironed out most its problems I have spent hours on DCS using it and its been almost faultless. I took my set up to the Cosford Show and everyone who used it from 20yr olds to 75yr olds first thing they asked was "where can I get one" The NVidia gamesworks drivers will make a huge difference in performance when using sli once the developers implement it each graphics card will render for each eye it is predicted that the performance increase will be massive. I am not sure where DCS are when it come to their development regarding drivers I am hoping that they get sli for VR implemented soon. I thought the cost was a bit steep but I suppose its the cost of three good monitors or one high end graphics card I find the clickable cockpits really easy using the Oculus its quite natural and I use VoiceAttack for the general commands and radio.
  9. Forgot to say that it is easy access to all parts including the throttle mechanism the throttle handle can easily be removed I have made it modular so the cables unplug.
  10. The covers are mdf coated in slate grey semi-matt paint the rotary mechanisms are mounted on aluminium supports the throttle has a 10mm shaft mounted on 10mm bearings and the tension mechanism is a very hard rubber mount greased it works well and will never wear out. The pitch and mixture are mounted on 6mm shafts and bearings the potentiometers are high quality the whole thing was built for a robust and reliable device. The buttons are professional grade. The landing gear buttons are from what I believe was a RAF Hunter and the flap switch off a RAF Canberra both switches were new. The airbrake is spring loaded it locks at each end point and both ends are switched it also drives a potentiometer so giving rotary action. There is also Mic and Headphone sockets that can be plugged to the sound card. The floor stand is removable and there is a facility to attach it to a desk. It was built to last and should never need any maintenance it is built totally over specification the rotary devices are smooth. There is room on the controller board for modification so additional features could be added if required. Works perfectly with windows 10
  11. I am changing my setup so have decided to build something different I have very high quality free standing it can fit to a desk) throttle console more suitable to piston engine era. It is all mounted on heavy duty bearings and more than robust made with all high quality parts. the throttle is smooth and the tension can be adjusted. The airbrake is spring loaded and locks off at both ends the flap switch and gear switch are actual aircraft parts. Plenty of pictures and more information available. Open to realistic offers.
  12. I have it now I used the troubleshooting compatibility vista mode and it works fine. Thank you
  13. Well I sorted my problems installed Windows 7 this morning and now black shark is running on 9.5 drivers with no issues and running with AI enabled, other than not having drivers for my HOTAS does anyone know where I can get drivers that work in windows 7 for my HOTAS? Thanks Saunder
  14. The thing is with this is that it's not only not working on my setup, but I set up a new install of vista on a clean hard drive and that meant a complete new install of 8.12 drivers and I re-downloaded black shark to make sure it was not a corrupt install file. but still the same problem.
  15. yes I have AI disabled. I can get into the multiplayer menu.
  16. I cannot find any error log but this is what vista is telling me in the, launcher.exe has stopped working window Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Launcher.exe_unknown Application Version: 0.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 4933f34b Fault Module Name: StackHash_d34b Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00000000 OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Additional Information 1: d34b Additional Information 2: 20752c25712bf3f7bc825928e900516d Additional Information 3: b114 Additional Information 4: 335c18d69b2fa63eb64e5240b3a2f023
  17. where would I find them?
  18. I have had Black Shark working with 8.12 drivers but unfortunately had to switch to 9.4 to try and resolve another issue with other software, unfortunately switching back to 8.12 and using driver sweeper it started coming up with the above error message so I have reinstalled Vista 32 on another hard drive and intalled 8.12 only to find I still get the same problem. I have catalyst AI switched off. Thank you Q9400 2.66GHz, 2666 Mhz Asus P5Q PRO Motherboard 4GB Corsair memory ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 8.12 drivers Vista 32 and Vist64
  19. This is starting to get frustrating now, I have had no response to this thread and have tried to reinstall Black Shark into a clean windows 32 installation with 8.12 ATI drivers and still no go, I just keep getting the message as above.
  20. After my initial issues with getting Black Shark to work and being informed to downgrade my Ati driver to 8.12 yes it worked and fantastic simulator, but after having to reinstall the latest drivers to test out an issue with another game and down grade back to 8.12 I cannot get Black Shark to start up again even with vers 8.12 I have uninstalled and reinstalled Black Shark but still no go.I just get the message below. Any help would be appreciated.. Thank you
  21. I have disabled AI and installed 8.12 drivers and added the file into windows/system32 but still get the same message even though the sim works fine, it just appears when I change menus but I click ok and continue onto the next menu.
  22. Can someone tell me how to get rid of the orange moving map in the top r/h corner and the icons that highlight everything that moves? I cant find any threads on here that tell me how to do it. Thanks? John
  23. Thanks, I have installed 8.10 and what a gem except every time I open a menu I get the message below but if I close it still works ok. I have re-installed but get the same.
  24. Hello and thank you for the reply. The game starts in multiplayer, if I try to start single player from the directory nothing happens at all, but starting from the short cut I get that error message. yes I do have the latest drivers installed. John
