Tomcat is never going to stop being the coolest plane to ever fly from a carrier.
That said, the stick was always going to be of limited appeal. It's got a bunch of unique features not seen on other sticks, like the weapon selector and the DLC wheel.
My feelings exactly. I am a huge fan of the F-14 as represented in DCS, but as someone who flies many other modules, would not make this purchase since other grips are much more versatile.

Maybe also check in the Services in Windows to see how many Meta/Quest processes are running when this happens. I noticed they don't like to close when exiting the Meta app unfortunately. I'm wondering if they keep stacking for you for some reason.

Not sure what's going on, but it seems to be getting worse than just skipping. I had a good session yesterday lasting about 2 hrs. Today, I can't get a 30 min flight in before i get the skipping motion and then a massive FPS drop that forces me to take my headset off and force close DCS. Starting the process of lowering every single setting I can find and the brutal task of tweaking each one back to see if I can nail this issue down.
What speeds do you get with the cable when train in the Meta software? Have you tried either a different cable and/or a different USB port (assuming you're using link)?
Edit - how about a slow DCS repair and deleting metashaders?

Video card drivers up to date?
Have you tried repairing the Meta Quest Windows app by downloading and running the installer again?

Are you AGL or MSL?

So not worth picking up the dedicated fa18 stick ?
Not sure if we can tell you how to prioritize your spending.
Some people collect grips and other peripherals. Personally I have just one stick, and have used it for a dozen or more modules, including warbirds, jets, and helicopters. I couldn't feasibly have one to match everything that I fly.

You can map whatever buttons you need to so that you have access to all the important keybinds.

I hope that's what you meant.
I'll take a look at this, thank you.
I assume most of the enemies' air defenses in this campaign will be of Soviet origin? Or is that not accurate?

Trying to prioritize the targets that Petrovich gives me - what is a good resource for me to know what common ground units would be named that I am likely to encounter?
-
Hi, I just downloaded this campaign.
Do you happen to have the briefings in PDF or similar?
-
Some of the takeoffs and landings are difficult, but i was able to complete the campaign recently and I'm no pro for sure.
Make sure you note the wind direction. And you can exceed the safe parameters briefly if you need to. Some takeoffs do take a bit of coaxing sometimes and you need to get moving horizontally as much as you can first. For some of the landings, yes, you don't have to come to a hover first. Just get down in one continuous descent and arrest it as much as you can before touching down.

No. Bricks can be used to build things.

There are certainly privacy laws and policies in this regard. But when you say you don’t trust those then what other option do you have? Nobody is forcing you to have a smart phone or a PC.

If you don’t trust this stuff you’d better ditch your phone too.
It’s definitely spying on you.
Once again - I appreciate the "just don't use technology then" response to any criticism of current privacy practices, but that type of reductive response would not get you very far in any professional or academic field. But then again this is just a message board, so it's pretty much the level of discourse expected here.

Don’t you think that’s a little farfetched?
Just stay off your computer or the internet if you’re so worried about this stuff. But such paranoia isn’t something for ED to worry about. If 98% of their customers are using Windows then that’s what the game is going to run on. If you don’t like that don’t play the game.
I'm not sure that the best response to people who are concerned about privacy issues is "well then just don't use technology". There are valid and legitimate concerns that people have over the use of personal information, even if we "don't have anything to hide".

Little off topic, but they have shifted some keybinds around, and added a few QoL features and categories. Ie, are you aware you can assign a hat/four buttons the browse the radio menu, (up/ down, enter/back), and the hat/buttons will retain their original bindings when the menu is closed? Like the trim hat will be a trim hat, except when the menu is open, then you can browse the menu.
I just mention it because sometimes after an update there are new features not mentioned, even if this example was mentioned in the change log a couple of years back.
I have to find these now

Hi there! Since windows 10 eol is coming, and windows 11 is completely riddled with intrusive AI (features (esp. Recall)), forced updates that brick many people's systems, and coercive policies as well as DRM, there is no way people are going to use windows at any time soon in the forseeable future (after 2025). for this reason, ED should wake up and realize the fact that windows is already proving its inferiority while linux is doing the exact opposite. no need to find evidence to prove it - microsoft is already shooting itself in the foot.
That's why we believe that ED needs to either make DCS compatible with DXVK, Vulkan, VKD3D or OpenGL, so that they can be run natively on linux, or they can just publish their app as a flatpak (flathub) anyway without having to spend loads of time porting their apps to linux .
The YoTLD begins NOW.
(btw, we already have a computer running mint, so that's the whole point of the this argument)
As much as I agree with you about Windows, I have been hearing "This is the year of Linux" every year since 2010. Has its market share increased measurably in the last decade?

I am having generally good results on Win 11. Did you do a clean install or an upgrade? I always suggest the former.
-
Huh - I see this issue too, only with this module. VR will freeze for a second, then will be horribly laggy afterwards until I restart DCS. No mods, Quest 3 through link cable.

For someone new to the Apache, how does this campaign work with with a two-seater aircraft? Do I need to learn both roles and occupy both seats during the course of the campaign?
-
They make cooling devices that you can set a laptop on, don't they?
I'm not a laptop person but I'm pretty sure I've seen those.

Great mission, I was on high alert flying way out to sea, twice. Unfortunately, my homing equipment was damaged on the way to pick up you know who, navigating there was a challenge and fun.
Hah - similar story here. I got absolutely lit up by Charlie when hovering over the rocks. Fortunately everyone survived except for all of my cockpit instruments. So I had to get back using only the standby compass. It had that WW2 English Channel feel, limping home across the water and feeling just joyous when spotting the shoreline ahead. There is a tailwind on the way back so that helped. Good stuff, Reflected.

They help to teach good stick and rudder skills, as opposed to newer FBW planes that compensate for being lackadaisical in those areas. And they force you to learn the classic steam gauges as opposed to a hud. And they're more forgiving in these aspects than the WW2 fighters that are very difficult to handle for beginners.
It's like learning to drive in a manual transmission economy car instead of either a modern luxury SUV or a late 60s muscle car.
4 minutes ago, dcn said:I think my core idea is that in DCS,a trainer aircraft can't teach you how to fly a plane in real life.
Have you tried?
I was a simmer for years first, then a real-life student pilot later in life. I required exactly zero hours of training on the cockpit instruments before I solo'd a real airplane.

What do you think of the Corsair movie Devotion?
in F4U-1D
Posted · Edited by unlikely_spider
As a whole it didn't leave a very lasting impression, except perhaps for one scene which I told my wife was one of the most accurate depictions of aviation that I've seen in a big budget Hollywood movie.
When they were transitioning to the Corsair, there was a short montage scene where the pilots spent hours studying the POH and memorizing the procedures, into the night long after their spouses had gone to bed.
It was a welcome and stark contrast to the newer Top Gun movie where the pilots are all cringey, smirkey overconfident blowhards and the scene where Maverick introduces himself to the team and tosses the F-18 "flying manual" into a trash can.
