  1. Hey guys, I am a former C-17 Flying Crew Chief. I am a little rusty, but I remember asking this exact question when I was going through aircraft specific training in 2003.

Basically when she's taxing on the ground and the flaps are fully retracted, the computers damper with opposite rudder when the tiller is in use to steer the aircraft. The books never tell you WHY, but I imagine it's just to keep her steady in a hard turn or counter any wind gusts that might attack the aircraft from the inside of her turn.

    Hope this helps!

its a wonderful space sim made just by one brilliant guy..

if you don't like space sim , its still a pleasure to see the dev updates on the youtube channel since the coding is pure genius!

latest youtube update has one of the most amazing data editor UI I have ever seen (skip to 14:40 to enjoy it):

I agree with Claud. The UI is AMAZING. Even if you don't like space sims, you should just watch that video to see what he has created. The way he has data represented in a GUI might be game changing as far as any software goes. I'm not too familiar with programing, but I have never seen it accessible quite like this. Just beautiful.

  3. Good question, I think it has to do with orientation of receiving the radar pings. Since the RWR is displayed on a N/E/S/W 2D plane for threat display, having a receiver on the belly might be counter productive. If you are getting an indication off your belly receiver, there might be no way to relay the information to the pilot since the aircraft is in a maneuver that has no definite end orientation.

I hope this sort of makes sense...

  4. This is actually a good question. I have found the DCS community to be much more open minded and mature compared to most gaming communities I run in.

My guess is, there are indeed DCS female pilots out there, but perhaps they do not play much online or surf these forums. I know we have a diverse international community playing and most likely a multitude of other walks of life we all identify with.

As much as I would loose my shit if I met a girl who plays DCS where I live today, I've never actually met anyone in real life who plays DCS like I do. I have friends who play a lot of games, but none of them play flight sims.

You can fit anything inside a C-17... I MEAN ANYTHING!!!!

Think this is a C-5. I was a crew chief on 17s for six years and if my memory serves me correct, only one M1 can be transported at a time on a 17.

I would love to play DCS C-17, but if you want to make it realistic, Eagle Dynamics is going to have to create a bar in the game where all the heavy crews can get blacked out drunk.

  6. Question, is there any way to command your unit's to;

    Hold Fire

    Return Fire

    Fire at will

    and most importantly

stop them from firing at bloody supply trucks if there is anything armed in the vicinity.

Its driving me mad. I order them to engage a couple of abrams and they opt to shoot the supply trucks instead.

Its a fun game, but im surprised by the limited amount of options it offers when it comes to ordering units.

I don't think they are supposed to fire on supply unless you command them to. Well... I can't think of it now, but they might fire on a supple truck that is armed. Do those exist? I am not sure.

And you can always click on the units weapon to deactivate it. This is especially usefull when you have radar SAM sites operating. If you turn off the radar, the enemy's SEAD shouldn't be able to pick them off.

  7. So I have been only playing the single player campaign since the game was released, and I can say I love it! The game has a great dynamic campaign system in place right now that hopefully will only be improved on.

I guess my favorite part about the whole game is the philosophy on units. Most RTS games put you in a situation where your units are expendable and should be sacrificed. ALB makes you re-approach all of that. Do I save my units for future battles? Am I going to win this match? Do I want to capture and secure areas in order to have a greater area to deploy units in next battle? Do I quickly rush the enemy and try to snipe their CV?

So many options, so many different ways to approach the campaign map and tactical matches. The game does a lot to make you feel like you are employing strategy. Not "the best build order" or whatever robotic scheme a lot of other RTS games seem to boil down to in order to win.

Add me if you want to play some MP ever: Stick3rs

  8. Did somebody just say 'Dynamic campaign'?

Anyone have an info on that?

I haven't seen anything on it yet, which makes me a little concerned. But... I have a boner still. I know the A-10 has afterburners guys... but the game is just so damn fun and amazing to watch. I think that's why I lose a lot. I just get caught up with all the tank/heli/plane porn going on in front of me.

  9. Latest update allows for Deck building now. So far I have done well with a F-111 SEAD/A-10 CAS mix and a lot of SAMs. I saw some guys flying the really cheap planes in mad swarms which was interesting. The armory is really cool looking. I hope the aircraft models get more paint one of these days!

  10. Well I've played a couple of matches and so far I like it. It seems to be a more simplified European Escalation. The beta is multiplayer only, which kinda sucks since I have no business playing multiplayer due to my inability to think like a robot. But the jets are a lot of fun to call in. I can't believe how many are to be included in the final release. But the game gives me a chance to call in A-6 intruders! Ahh! So neat!

  11. Tomcatter has the right idea. If I was an ATC, I would go ****ing bonkers if I had helos landing directly/taking off from spots. Plus equip and crews on the ground would be affected by rotor wash etc. It's a lot safer if all aircraft are playing by the same rules at the field.

While I was stationed in Charleston, most of the helicopters would at least land/takeoff and taxi close to the runway. I can't say much for fields that are helos only.

  12. I have wargame european escalation and it is really well done but as with all RTS games, I am total shite at it.

I find it too confusing, but I give them 10 out of 10 for the way it looks, if the new one is anything like european escalation it will indeed be a very nice looking game and if your into RTS, it should provide you with many hours of fun.

I'm right there with you. I have this inability to slaughter my units. I want to play with minimal attrition, but that is impossible, yet I still try. This is in all RTSs. Plus I am a slow clicker.

  13. the thing that annoyed me the most is that the devs couldnt even be bothered to read wikipedia for the vehicles

and it still looks like they cant be bothered to read wikipedia.

Whatever the technical deficiencies were in the last game, I did not notice. I think everything was primarily designed to work in concert; not necessarily to portray SIM level accurate weapons and vehicles.

I enjoyed European Escalation a lot. But the whole damn time I was playing(usually losing), I wanted to call in some ****ing air power.

  14. I read most of that reddit post(there was a lot to read!). The population fudging is curious to me. Such simple code that I could understand it! Seems like they put a lot of time and resources into the eye candy but failed to create a solid infrastructure.

  15. More information on the DRM fiasco.

    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/12/simcity-server-not-necessary/

As a former Flying Crew Chief, I am and will always be against always online style of DRM. Video games kept me ****ing sane when I was in. It's not just deployed military personal that are affected by this style of DRM, those who travel all the time are curbed. People living in rural areas are left with no options.

I really want to play it! And I'm in debt and really have no money to buy it but would charge it right now if the online DRM was just dropped.
