Hey Folks I know that alot of the links are not working on the website. I bought the boxed version so I would not have to download it, but I would like to get some other files from there. When you get them to fix the download section. could you give a shout for them to check the entire site! there just seems to be a lot of links setup wrong! everything just goes back to a blank index page which I find very strange. Even the members area does not seem to be working correctly. I was about to send an e-mail when I caught this thread and figured I'd wait a bit. getting what you paid for is more important then getting free stuff I feel....lol I'm sure there all busy doing more important things.

Thanks I was just curious. And I never have anything flying my heli but me. I make sure everything except the dampining system is off unless I need it for some reason. Even if I have to input new settings into the abris or something like that I just trim and make sure I'm not going to hit anything!...lol Like I said I was curious.

I am curious How much yaw or in respect to yaw. How fast should one be able to get the heli to turn in one direction or another. I have been playing with my axis inputs and trying to get the heli a little more snappy in the yaw control. sometimes in combat situations it seems rather slow to turn. or is this just normal for this heli? I know things are different in different situation. So I am speaking just in general here.

Nvidia Forceware 190.38 hassles
Oldflyer2 replied to Ovenmit's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Same here! I have gone back to build 185.5 dirvers on both my installs XP and win7 64bit. just don't have the time to play around with even MORE computer issues I guess! I have heard my friends have done the same also on many different setups. -
no boot-up I was just wanting to know if you fixed the problem! I wanted to mention that a weak hard drive will give you alot of symptoms that look like other problems. I computer waiting for boot-up information will look like it is in a comma! everything is waiting to start but the Weak or non fuctioning HD is not providing the proper data to the system. Always check to see if your hard drive is spinning up normally. If it cannot read the Bootsector info you will get bad problems. A weak HD motor not spinning fast enough or not at all can be the cause of all of this. Just a thought.

Hey all Does anyone have some good detailed reference links for the Ka-50 on the web. Or maybe a good book on the aircraft? I realize that this might be condsidered clasified info for civillians, but I was just curious to no more about the yaw and cyclic system. Is the tail rudder the only means of yaw control in the aircraft? can't really seem to find some detailed specs. anything would be helpfull. all I seem to find is the basic like presentaion material.

I have been using the 64bit drivers for the X52 pro for my X52. They do work and I like the SST software alot better also. It has the shift states for the Pinkie switch all setup so you can do alot more with the button setup of the modes with Pinkie shift states. I got all the combat buttons I need all setup on the Throttle control. It's awesome. I got a pro. file all setup for Blackshark if you want to use it for a start I will get it to you. first I'd like to clarify that I meant the new Logitech contoller! before someone corrects me harshly!...lol And second. I found this real nice Simulator site last night. I thought the homemade system they have availible would be pretty tight for DCS FFB. http://www.simcraft.com/ I guess $2000.00 is not bad really if it works well. Not sure I like the Wood though. Might have to design it in Solidworks in plastic or PVC Pipe or something.

Hey all Thanks for the info there Frazier! I guess how we get our FFB thrills when flying our R/C Planes and Heli's is when it Crashes! Thats our $1,000 $ 2,000 dollars and in many cases alot more! lying in a pile out on the field somewhere! You just don't restart a $39.95 game. That's after you stop crying that is from the agony of watch it all happen. Although forcefeed back on there would be cool! I was looking at the new setup from Saitek! But $300.00 is alot to beans for ANOTHER controller...LOL And as far as my control problems. It had something to do with the usb port drivers or something. got it all fixed now. control centerpoints and key inputs where all goofy. in all my games. When I noticed it happen on Belkin controller for Arma 2 I was able to figure it out. who knows? I'm no software expert. just know it was not right. P.S. I guess I'm lucky! No wife here to worry about. She left after Janes Longbow many years ago......LOL Later mates.

Hey Folks! I am doing just fine. hope all of you are the same! I have spent so much time in setting up things in DCS I have to get out I think a bit...LOL By the way Great Flying Frazier! That is awesome. You got me working on that little ground manuever you do. I maybe wrong but I don't think you retrimmed at all there right? Those are my thoughts too. I am one of those flyers that wants total control over my craft when I go into combat. Be able to put the nose on target like a surgeon..LOL The biggest problem I am having is coming up with a good X52 profile for DCS. What to put where. So many controls to think about. not to mention the Axis settings. I would like to ask Frazier what peddles do you use? I got an old racing wheel set to link into DCS with no problem but they just don't feel that good! I ordered The Saitek set. Hope they get here soon. I guess Like it has been said before! Practice Practice Practice. I have had this Sim now for 3 weeks and I am so HOOKED! I will say that I run DCS on Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit RC. and this had something to do with some of my initial control problems. But I am getting it all down good here. I just like the way the X52 controls Are in this OS. But I still have some feelings about the FM. It's All Good! I have had no other real problems running DCS on This OS Except for my trim just moving on its own a bit. got too figure that one out. Not too bad though. This Sim does offer some of the best tunning features I have ever seen. The axis tune feature is just like my R/C Radios. I think thats a little odd! but I love it. And Frazier! I want that SKIN! So Cool! I need to learn what everyone uses to make them! Have a good day all! Oldflyer2 aka: ScorpionRaptor

Here Is my trk of the sideslip SideSlipFlight.trk Jets! Flying sideways? Ok! If someone has a video of that! I'd like to see it!

Hello All! Hey! who started this great thread anyway?...LOL Just kidding! I also want too thank those that should me some of there trks. Great flyers in here! Some made me dizzy! but HooA! My thing with any flight model is not only what it allows you to do, but what it should not as well. one thing that I seem to get in my setup is a real hard time getting rid of sideslip! And the heli in slow hover never settles down! it always wants to be turning left or right with no input. so I made this trk and need to ask this. Should I really be able to sideslip this heli at over 260 KPH! I thought that at those speeds the airfoils, wing stabs would give it more wind resistant effect. Make it need to bank more into turns! maybe I'm wrong!. And is there any wild manuveur that would make the coxial rotors touch! I Would think the heli does have it's limits on what you can do! And what you can't! And I really agree on the pedal subject! This sim made me order up some new peddles this week and the track IR system for combat! it looks Awesome! I have waited along time for a great heli sim Since the old days of janes and I am surely hooked on this. I guess I will make this my final thoughts on the whole thing. But I have seen some real honest opions come out here! I hope It all helps. It was not ment at all too hurt.

Hi All! I as I am in the process of making a good track to try and show what is happening to me in this sim. With my setup and what I seem to be experiencing. I have seen a few posts where Some members have stated the really good control they have! Would it be too much to ask if any member would be willing to post a track of some general flying around a fieled in both Cockpit view and chase view! And if they could also being showing there control inputs? If this is too much to ask that is ok. It sure would be helpfull to see if what I seem to see is what eveyone else sees during a flight! Dang that's a lot of sees...LOL And I do appologize for the ***** languange in one of my posts! it will never happen again! Sorry! Sincerely: OldFlyer2

Should I install Win7 64bit or 32bit?
Oldflyer2 replied to fatchance's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have nothing but good things to say about Win 7 ultimate 64Bit RC I have had no real problems with any of my old legacy 32 bit software! Or any with my hardware! I run a dual boot setup on two seperate hard drives. Which I might add that Win 7 did automatically! Awesome. It knows! Everything runs So much faster on the Win 7 setup its hard to believe it's the same computer! Really. I hope every manufacturer embrases the Win 7 Platform! It all good here! My computer: Asus Motherbaord E5300 Dual core Intel Processor: overclocked to 3.01 gigs BFG Nvidia 9800 GT OC Overclocked 4 Gigs Certified Dual Channel 1066 ram Coolmaster 80 Plus SLI certified 850w Power supply Running XP on one HD Running Win7 Ulltimate 64Bit on other HD Both Western Digital Drives I am Building a new core I7 system now and hope it does as well! -
Hey! Yes I absolutly! Agree. I do study this stuff. We study all sorts of Fluid, Air, and force dynamics. It's a must if you build prototype R/C designs. Like this flying Lawnmower here! this is so funny! This is Radical for sure! Some of my flying friends and I have this Motto! if we can put an engine on it! we'll try to fly it...LOL Example of the importance of the Reynolds number If an airplane wing needs testing, one can make a scaled down model of the wing and test it in a wind tunnel using the same Reynolds number that the actual airplane is subjected to. If for example the scale model has linear dimensions one quarter of full size, the flow velocity would have to be increased four times to obtain similar flow behaviour. Alternatively, tests could be conducted in a water tank instead of in air (provided the compressibility effects of air are not significant). As the kinematic viscosity of water is around 13 times less than that of air at 15 °C, in this case the scale model would need to be about one thirteenth the size in all dimensions to maintain the same Reynolds number, assuming the full-scale flow velocity was used. The results of the laboratory model will be similar to those of the actual plane wing results. Thus there is no need to bring a full scale plane into the lab and actually test it. This is an example of "dynamic similarity". Reynolds number is important in the calculation of a body's drag characteristics. A notable example is that of the flow around a cylinder. Above roughly 3×106 Re the drag coefficient drops considerably. This is important when calculating the optimal cruise speeds for low drag (and therefore long range) profiles for airplanes.

hello all! Ok I lied! I just could not resist in commenting on how great the reponse has been to this thread. I feel it has really brought out some HONEST feelings about the Sim! Now I know I started this of with a real harsh statement about the flight dynamics. And alot of the people involved with the ED team, feel I am an ass**** for doing so! Well, thats what forums are for Right? And it was harsh, but it got things really going. Now I am doing alot of research on the flight dynamics of the Ka-50 Attach Helicoptor on the web! and other sources! This Awesome Beast of a Killer! Sorry! helicoptors just make me goo all over myself!....LOL I just have to post this video I found! maybe you all have seen it, but It Made me roll on the floor with uncontrollable laughter! Now to redefine my original point! The hardest thing a delveloper has in making a game, is making it feel real right? Otherwise it would be like in the old days where things felt like they we're mounted on a stick. Remember those days? To make things feel real he has to design an algorythm'(s) that takes real flight data, and real force models and turn this all into a flight model that Simulates as close as possible, the flight charatistics of the aircraft he's modeling! Into this there also has to be a certain amount of looseness, Or randomness for lack of a better term, to help simulate the real feel! And this is very hard task to do! VERY HARD! I don't think NASA even has it down 100%...LOL Just Kidding! But anyway! In the next few weeks I will try to put up real examples of the point I was trying to make here! It also has Nothing to do with the trim system or the AP autopilot settings or the stabilation systems of the helicoptor! period! that is not my argument and never was! I know how to trim it and fly it! really! Did it the first day I got it. So I hope the debate goes on, and I will for sure be watching the thread with anticipation! In between printing out 2 more complete copies of the PDF manual for some friends, After they seen my awesome copy, they just had to have one! I'm just such a nice guy that way...LOL It's getting really good here! Sincerely: Oldflyer2 P.S. To Ruprecht: Thanks mate! you made me feel welcome!

Hello! This will be my fianl post to this thread! One thing I've learned is that when people start taking personnal offence to comments about imaginary people in a "GAME" as a reference to real life! It's time to leave it alone! I must say this though! That's Like way out there! Whew! I think some should take a break from the sim world! Wholly crap! It has been a good thread though! from some! I'm glad I could restrain myself from the personnal comments and attacks! Sincerley: Oldflyer2 P.S. Have a great time with the Sim! can't wait for the patch! Hope it fixes alot of the bugs! Great Sim for sure!

Hey Folks! LOL Well Well Well! We sure have a few feathers ruffled here don't we!...LOL Ok! First Thing. I fricken LOVE THIS SIM! Not the point here at all! Two! It is the closest thing to real Since Janes! or any other simm And I might add! In a whole new League! I believe I have stated that also before! That is not my Point nor my Question! I want to ask just this one Question! IF After having set the trim and no other outside force has changed such as the fuel or wind! because in that trk niether changed enough! should the center point of my trim setting change? the point I have set! Not wether it should be changed! but should it change! all on it's own? Because in that trk I have put up there, barring all the bullshit fooling around! I trimmed only once in the very beginning. What I want to know is this! on the last takeoff before the crash! my trim had changed! Why? I did not change it. Sorry for sounding so negitive about this sim! I am not at all. I just want feedback on this symptom. As you can see the heli turns hard right & goes into a pretty hard foward flight trim! And what is the business end of a helo? If your a real pilot just say so! I can respect that! P.S. I know I broke the nose gear! it was an accident! I was bit tried. Good point about the dust collectors! I guess I was lucky I did not blow up the engines. I must have sucked up enough dust to start a rock quarry!...LOL

Hey Folks First I would like to thank the member Zembla for the tip on the folder permissions! That is exactly what was wrong in Win 7 RC 64 Bit! Thanks Now that I can get a track up on here I hope I made one that shows my concerns about the flight model! Because some of you have asked for it. Well I made this at about 3:00 Am so forgive my tired flying skills but I did want to get this up here so I can get some input. Now in this track I first get my aircraft trimmed out pretty tight! Then I do some silly but not outrage goofy flying around the airfield. But by the time I get to the last few landings and take offs and the final resulting CRASH! What I get is that all my trims are out of wack! Now my thoughts are this. That once I get my aircraft all trimmed out! why should that change except for some outside forces such as wind or turbulance that by all means should change it. Other than that I would think that something on my aircraft is loose! ie linkage or hydraulcs leaking, or some sort of severe wear! Something. Maybe I am wrong in this but I feel I should be able to come back to some reasonable center point on my controls. Maybe I'm all wrong in this thinking! If that is the case I would think that any aircraft would be a real bear to control! NO? I really am looking for any input on this matter! sorry if I have ruffled any feathers by starting this thread at all! I just feel that this is the best Sim that has come out in a long time for Helis And I Love it! But I also feel that if we are not totaly, and maybe brutally honest with our feedback to the ED Team it will never be the GREATEST SIM EVER MADE! Maybe I'm wrong in that too! I don't Know! Sincerely: Oldflyer2 P.S. one member asked how long I have been flying sims I think! Well, I am 54 years old and have been flying Sims before they had good joysticks. so please don't get the idea I don't have flying skills. Flight Trim Example1.trk

hey Folks! I am trying to get these tracks files that I have made but for some reason I can not see them in the folder except in the sim itself. They are not listed in the file folders when I view from my system? I am running Win 7 RC Therfore I have been looking into some folder permisson settings but I really wonder why that would be an issue. The ones supplied by the sim are there when viewed both in the Sim and my system view? ??????? Sincerely: Oldflyer2

Hello All It is early Thur mornig and I have not had time to really look at all the posts. I really hope that I have a chance to get some trk. file made to show what I am really talking about here! And please lets drop the R/C referance. I am getting a little sore about people making referancs to toys or the difference in size! I know this. These so called toys are 1000's of dollars in highend radio and electric equipment and do not in any way feel, fly, or ressemble TOY's. and alot of what you fly in the real world started out as R/C! as mentioned in one response here. It was just a referance point! nuff said. One simmer brought up an interesting point about outside weather influences. Good Point here. Only because the whole Coaxial rotor was designed to elimnate some of these outside forces on the airframe. Read your Wiki on the KA-50. And also that the KA-50 does wiegh in the range of 8000 KG. It should not be flaling around in the sky like a bobble head. I have also watched many video's on aircraft in flight. Now, If you watch any of the Ka-50 flight videos! once in a foward flight do you see it bobing up and down or swaying side to side like it's on some sort of string in a huricane? well that's what I am getting here! even with all the vortex effects and inertia, and auto everything turned OFF. Maybe I got a bad copy of this software or something! I do not know. That is why I started this thread. Which I might add I should be getting some thanks because it sure has sturred up some great debate!...LOL Well I will finish this later. I do want to continue this and get more responce for sure it's awesome! Sincerely: oldflyer2

Ok Fellow Simmers I can see that you all love a great flight Heli sim as much as I do! And I am glad that I could start a thread that could really get your blood running. I think you got the impression that my opinion on the flight dynamics was from a stand point that I could not fly the KA-50 in this sim! Oh contrar! maybe my initial comment of way wrong was a little harsh! I agree! maybe what I'm trying to say is it still has that Pendulam on a string feel. believe me! I have researched just about every combat aircraft that they have made! my personnal choice will always be the Longbow! I think because I am a biased American Pilot! ...LOL now I am going to attach a recorded flight I did a few minutes ago! it is a little late so forgive my jitters! It was a hard day at work. the sim after all the trimming still feels to me to be Loose! The trim & Controls seem to change to much for no real reason. Like the maintenance guy forgot to tighten everything up. That's just my opinion! This will be the last thing I will say about this subject! Or else I will have to get some back-up in here I think!..LOL P.S. It is a great Sim! I hope they can get all the other bugs fixed also to make it the greatest Sim Ever! Well I tried to attach a a recorded track file to kind of show what I meant! But I guess you can't do that with with track files we make in our program! I appologize for not being able to do that!
-
ok it's Ron Again Just for the comment on R/C Being real! How Real do you feel this is! I would think we would have to know something about flight dynamics
-
Hi My name is Ron. I am 54 and have been flying simulators and other craft for many years. Including high end R/C Helicoptors and Sport 3D Airplanes as a lifelong hobby! When I first seen the add for DCS Blackshark I was Literally estatic! It has been so long since I have seen a really good Helicoptor Sim since Jane's LongBow! Which I might add was the best out there! Now I don't want to start off with everyone thinking that I want too put down DCS I do not! But I just can not help but to ask other simmers opinions on the flight dynamics engine of DCS when played in Sim Mode! For that is the only true mode to play in for true dynamics I for one know, for reasons I will not get into here for I know most will think I am full of it and making things up. But I can tell you this! the flight dynamics in DCS when played in Sim Mode are ALL WRONG! There is no way that this helicoptor repsonds to the outside weather, wind or any other forces in this manner, things are way off! The control input is way too soft and spongy. The reaction time too input is way off! If real helicoptors handled in the way that this dynamic engine depicts it to be! No smart, life loving pilot would fly them! For one example ie: When a helicoptor is in forward flight, there is no way that the wind resistance forces on the tail section would allow side slipping or sideward flight in Any Form! The truth is, that in forward flight of more than around 40 mph. The rudder control has literally no effect or almost nill. And gets even less as your speed increases! Pilots that would have to fly this helicoptor with the type of control input that this helicoptor exhibits would! Land It! And Never Fly It Again! There responce would be that it is a death trap that needs to go back to the drawing board! All anyone has to do is ask themselves, if this is a true and accurate flight engine? would any pilot be able to make manuvers like anyone has witnessed countless times on real tv and in hundreds of movies! You all know that any good pilot with reasonable training can make helicoptors Snap into amazing manuvers with hard, fast and responsive control without being on the edge of death! Now to back up my opinion in the near future! I will provide real video footage links if I am aloud too, of an R/C controlled Coaxial helicoptor such as the KA-50 used in Blackshark just to back up my statements here. Coaxial helicoptors are one of the most stable flight and hovering aircrafts ever designed. Now I know that this thread will raise some hell for some, but I hope that we can be honest in this for I do love the whole concept of DCS! I just want to enjoy more of the game than to spend all my time fighting the aircraft dynamics which I know are ALL WRONG! Now! with my opinion given! I would Like to ask anyone elses opinion on this matter. And second, I would like to know if there is anyway now or will there be in the future, through maybe some sort of SDK. To be able to change the flight dynamics engine to something more real? Sincerely: Ron F. aka: Oldflyer2
