  1. Yes, but (forgive my possibly wrong statements) the Apache is more able to resist enemy fire then the Cobra, Zulu or Whiskey. Dunno though. I would salivate having to do CAS style missions and counter-insurgency in Afghanistan style settings, maybe also with terrain that resembles Germany.
  2. The AH-1W sure would be nice to have. Especially when you have to deal with the rotors, which can't take negative G. Hopefully if there is an AH-1W, we get it with a glass cockpit.
  3. I have a pretty decent increase, just want to know if there's a better way. Thanks for the advice though.
  4. I think I'm most likely due for an OS update sooner or later. Hopefully. Most likely need to upgrade to 4 GB RAM though.
  5. I'd really just like to know what my max settings I can run with my system with smooth gameplay. I most likely won't exceed 4x MSAA and 8x Aniso Also, I might just get a 5850 for the i7 system I mentioned.
  6. The Longbow operator's manual (flight manual, if that's what you want to call it) is classified.
  7. Is this necessary for the FPS I want? Suppose I have: Core i7 920 @ 3.2 GHz 3 GB DDR3 NV 9600 GT Vista Home Premium 64 bit Would I be able to keep things at higher quality?
  8. I'm trying to nail down what the best balance of graphics and performance is best for my system. Any pointers? Ideally, I'd like to get about 30-40 FPS average, maybe dipping into the high 20s. My computer specs are: AMD X2 4800 (2.4 GHz) HIS IceQ4 4850 2 GB DDR400 (With some chat programs in background 1.3 GB free) Playing at 1280x1024
  9. Most likely this would be something like combining VBS 2 and DCS via GUI interfaces. Basically, you'd be able to switch between DCS and VBS 2 on the fly.
  10. Wouldn't you use the Apaches to escort a helo that is going to the front lines though? Hot LZ=dead chopper.
  11. Suppose we have Block III Apache AH-64Ds. In a hypothetical situation, where the army needed escorts for their Black Hawks or Chinooks, wouldn't the Apaches get AIM-9s or AIM-92s?
  12. I see you make sacrifices in speed and rate of climb, but it's kind of obvious that this happens. I think that Apaches or Cobras with AA missiles goes against their role though. Maybe not the Cobra, which is an escort helo, but the Apache is in the wrong role to get Stingers or Sidewinders.
  13. AH-1Z is cleared for the AIM-9 Sidewinder, AH-64D is cleared for at least the AIM-92 Stinger. http://www.enemyforces.net/helicopters/ah64_apache.htm IIRC that should be correct.
  14. The AH-1Z and AH-64 are cleared to carry AIM-9 Sidewinders. They are only for self defense, and really only if they run into enemy helos. If you're operating helos when enemy jets are in the area, you might want to reconsider a job change. Yes, you can equip them, but the question is why would you for a chance encounter by other helos. If you keep fighters in the area, there's no point at all.
  15. Land like you would a plane. Go in with speed, and then do a very light flare so your nose wheel doesn't end up hitting first, then start slowly reducing collective so you can drop.
  16. The same day they implement MP infantry into DCS.
  17. You also forgot having to learn the AH-64A controls
  18. Then Digital Combat Simulator: Viper has a much better ring to it. Not.. Super Cobra
  19. Nah, Digital Combat Simulator: Longbow Mk. 1 sounds much better.
  20. Well let's see. I'm about 13 years old (yes, you have a little kiddo here), and assuming 12 years, I'll be 25 once they supposedly finish DCS. Seems good enough, It takes about a year or so to really learn the Ka-50 like the back of your hand.
  21. Awww... I've always preferred to use a moving map GPS, mainly because I'd like to see a map of the area. At least the gunning system should be nice and advanced. And the ultimate test of patience.... Waiting to see the day that the AH-64D operator's manual is declassified and that someone makes a comprehensive sim for it. Oh, and a Mi-28 would be nice to see eventually.
  22. Note I said a few decades :smilewink: But yeah, I think I'd be better off letting the AI pilots shlep me around while I gun. I've always loved gunning. And yes, by the time I hit middle age I'm hoping DCS: Longbow should be coming out. They do sell a manual for the Apache Longbow, but this is for military only and they only ship to APOs. http://www.catalog-a.biz/item.php?item_id=213 And isn't it true that VBS 2 has a fully simulated Apache already? EDIT: I like study sims, but sadly all the cool things (Mi-28N, AH-64D) are still classified. I would absolutely love to see a fully done sim for those attack helos, even if it meant having to jump through hoops to get them.
  23. Well I'm just fine without the radar. If there's a GPS in the A I'll be a happy camper, because otherwise I'd be horribly lost in the game. I like glass cockpits too. Any chance a few decades in the future we might see a DCS: Longbow?
  24. It's because the rocket only has one servo, and because the beam riding system is two lasers that it flies between.
  25. Digital Combat Simulator: Apache So let's talk about it. Is there going to be a GPS system? I for one hope to have both an authentic A model and one that has anything declassified from the D model added to the A model, and as stuff becomes declassified we could have it added by Eagle Dynamics. Or maybe (in my dreams) the US Army calls up Eagle Dynamics and tells them to build a Longbow sim to replace the current sim software they use.
