  1. Hey Matt. I just have to tell you what a great job you and yours have done with DCS A 10 Warthog. I've always been into sims and I think yours is the best simulation of a modern aircraft to date. I know it is something special when I consider flying it; it is not done lightly, rather I must concentrate and fully engage...and it is a satisfying feeling just to get the thng off the deck. This is, IMHO, the mark of a truly immersive sim. I downloaded electrnically of course..b ut I will be buying a boxed copy as asson as possible because I think it is important to go the extra mile to financially reward your company's efforts. well done! apoll
  2. Connos..really? What issues? So I can look out for them... tks. apoll
  3. No! I live! I found it on a backup disk drive. Yahooo! I live again. off to patch it up to number 7. tks. apoll out!
  4. Oh crap! I was afraid of that. I appear to have deleted the wrong version and kept the old beta version! Idoit! Oh well...looks like it's hours of download for me... tks. for advice, apoll out :(
  5. Hi. Decided to do the unistall dance to get the most out of the latest patch. Just a point of clarification: for the base game, I have a version which says: "Beta Version 4". Is that the latest base game version? I load patch 6 and then patch 7 onto this version? I just can't recall when the release candidate came out whether it was Beta 4 or not...whether I have to download a completely new version of the base game. Grateful prompt replies. thanks. apoll :)
  6. Ok. I'm wondering how I get rid of the yellow/white/red warning messages that array themselves across the MFCD when things go pear shaped...and block out the one remaing MFCD that is working? I know it's somewhere obscure, but can't find it. Anyone know off the top of their heads? Thanks. apoll
  7. Thanks nomdeplume. I'll give that a go asap. apoll
  8. Hi. Yet anither question. I'm trying to use my TPG to search for targets around the waypoint (doing the target range mission to practise my skills). I set the waypoint on the TAD as SPI, then fwd long China hat to set senors looking at the SPI...such as the TPG. I switch to the SPG...and nothing. The green diamind on the TAD indicates the TPG has swunbg round to the waypoint BUT on the TPG screen is nothing but grey. I think it is looking at the sky..literally at the waypoint which has an elevation of 10 000 feet. That is not much use to me looking up into the sky. It is NOT looking at the ground under the waypoint where I need it to be. I then move the TPG sensor...and it immediately flicks back to the front and about 50 km or so in front of the jet. What am I doing wrong? I need the TPG to be looking at the waypoint area where the targets are...but on the ground...not 10 000 feet in the air! And why, when I go to move it down to ground level, it immediately flicks to 50km or so in front of the jet... miles from the waypoint? Grateful your views. apoll PS: The new patch is great. Smoke is much more persistent now: hit a target and look for the burning smoke rising into the air to orientate yourself. More realistic for sure.
  9. Hi. How does one get wingmen to attack a surface object other than enemy vehciles, etc? Like a bridge or house etc. Doesn't seem to be a selection for that in the coms menus. thanks. apoll
  10. Paulrkiii, great tute. But tell me something: where do you get the co-ords for the new waypoints from to input into the CDU? How do you get them? Because I'll be stuffed if I can find a way to gather LL coords in the game. thanks. apoll
  11. Oh yes, MTFdarkeagle...I forgot to mention that I am doing the training missions as I go along! Very helpful. apoll
  12. Ok..at first it was how to I turn this thing on?? Where is the &%$#@@!! so and so switch? How do I close the canopy? Et alia. Then it was...ok, how do I keep this thing straight and level in the air? How do I land properly and how do I use the CDU to find divert fields etc. This phase is still slowly unravelling. Very soon it is going to be how to use the TPG and the other sensors to find objects in the landscape. Slowly, ever so slowly, practice is starting to have an effect. Each take off feels like a full experience and I find I do NOT want to exit mid flight when real life calls me away from the computer. Instead, I want to divert to the nearest and get my hog on the tarmac asap. And when I do this, a satisfied feeling is had. This is one immersive sim! apoll out!
  13. King Neptune. Thanks. But I thought you can't hook a popint on the ground with TAD? Had to be a symbol or spot already notated. If I want to put a waypoint 100nm from my current position, where there are NO symbols, how do I find the lat/long of that spot using TAD (or anything else)? thanks. apoll
  14. Hi. Sorry if these are dopey, but I'll be a monkey's uncle if I can figure them out. So I thought I would ask this jelpful forum! 1) Making new waypoints/flt plans. Ok, I've read the manual several times and still can't get this. I'm fine to the bit where it says to insert the lat/long of the new waypoint in the UDC: where can one get the lat/long of a point on the ground you want to set the new waypoint at? I thought the TAD and the slewable cross...but apparently the cross can slew by it doesn't reveal the lat/long of the point under it. Is this right? Am I doing something stupid? How can I find out the lat/long of a spot in the cockpit? I take it the only way to make new waypoints is to input numeric data: one can't use the map in TAD to set a new waypoint? 2) Coms with wingmen. Ok...I set up a mission (instant or otherwise) and look for the flight frequency in the briefing before the flight: unless I'm blind, it is not there. How can I find out what frequency my flight and wingman are on?? While I'm on coms, I'm not sure I'm doing the preset right: don't mee to be able to store presets in the radio...is there an obvious trick to it? 3) Finally, no map showing when I use EXP modes with China Hat switch. I'm using the TAD map..use the china hat switch on my warthog throttle to give me EXP 1/2...but surprise, surprise, when I do that, there is NO MAP...just black with the green symbols on the MFCD. Switch out of the EXP modes and the map comes back. I'm sure I used it the other day and it had a map displayed in the EXP modes. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? Thanks for your patience and I hope you can give me a steer on these things. Thanks in anticipation. apoll out
  15. Thanks all. Much appreciated. apoll out!
  16. Hi. My slewable cursor on my warthog throttle hotas is a bit sensitive: move a smidgin and it goes for a mile. Anyone know how to make it slower and more able to be finely controlled? Thanks. apoll :)
  17. Further to my last: ensure mipmap detail is turned up to high in the CCC. Du'h!!! (embarrassed) apoll out!
  18. Hi. One minute menu GUI hi res...next minute it is ugly and blocky and very low resolution - on a 1920 x 1200 computer! What gives? apoll
  19. For me seems smoother. Like the additional touches in the start up and cockpit - master warnng going off at points and armed seat (HOW does one arm the seat, BTW??). One thng I noticed, and I don't know if it is realism cranked up a notch or I did something wrong, at ramp start I tried to tune to local ATS: got an awful screech in my ear (not squelch) and the radio was not raising ATS. Really brought back memories of porked radios. Bug..OR realism..OR I did something wrong?? Anyone else had this? But great sim! Well done ED! apoll out
  20. OK. Desperate to hear from you who have it loaded and running while I download. What's it like?? apoll
  21. Ok. Thanks for all who replied...very helpful and useful suggestions. I'm very nervous doing this...never done it before and afraid of porking expensive system. I will be taking it really slowly. Anyway, thanks again. apoll out
  22. Hi. I've got this sweet i7 975 chip on an extreme Gigabyte x58 MOBO running a huge cooler...but never really considered O/C'ing. It is running at stock speed of 3.33 Ghz. But I see other guys here have much faster CPUs. Can anyone recommend a reputable and conservative guide on the web to sensible overclocking? I am really starting from scratch in this field and am likely to be very conservative, for fear of porking my rig. Any ideas? thanks apoll
  23. Tks very much, Nate. apoll
  24. Hi. I followed a thread on this sub-forum about blurred text in the game menu and how it was because the game was fighting with the CCC to set the AA. Turn the AA off in the CCC and presto, the blurred text goes away in the main menu - which is exactly what happened when I did this. HOWEVER, the cost is a much reduced framerate in the actual game. It seems as if my system, running two 5970s in crossfire, needs the CCC settings to actually get the framerate up in the actual game. If I don't use the CC settings, and just leave it to the game settings, it doesn't seem to want the to use all the power of the crossfire setup. Can anyone confirm my hypothesis? Is there any way of having my cake and eating it too? regards, apoll :noexpression:
