Thats no problem, as I said I only turned on game flight, so everything else is is full sim. However, I think I'm going to turn off game flight now as I'm getting quite at ease with weapons and systems. Whens the next meet up?

Shkorpio, I'm a total newbie pilot as well, but I've found the dummies giude to blackshark a great help. I just repeat it again and again and I'm getting faster and more confident, I've spent time mapping alot of functions to my stick, and getting "finger memory" of sequences etc is speeding things up. But I still can't fly AND shoot, so I've turned game flightmode on so I can concentrate on buttons and switches until I know them, then I can turn super twitchy mode back on.... I think its a matter of repetition and committing sequences and functions to memory. I suppose this is what it must feel like for those poor souls who didn't grow up with PC's tryng to learn how to use them....

Hi Folks, I'd love to join the next flight, I've worked through the DCS for dummies tut a few times and I'm getting pretty comfortable with it all. At least the tiny fraction of the sim that the tutorial covers. Now, I've turned game flight mode on for my own flights (and I still don't do missions.) I've found it nearly impossible to learn the systems and the switches while trying to keep the darn thing still. I keep everything else on sim mode. Do you guys "go easy" like that or is everything on sim mode? I'm going to switch sim flight mode back on once I'm more confident with the cockpit functions, but I've been learning tons more about the systems without sim flight mode. W_J.

Danm thats really unfortunate man. I aggree with everything you've said, it is really important for people realise the danger. Recently, a lorry driver on one of our motorways ploughed into a traffic jam while he was fiddling with his laptop. He crushed a car with a family of five inside. They were trapped, and burned to death. A mother, father and three small children. THE ROAD IS THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE ON EARTH, TREAT IT AS SUCH.

Very nice, great job :).

Panzertard, thanks so much! I think I will be able to fix the problem using your advice. My windows firewall is set up as per your post, so I think it must be the router firewall that is the problem. I will change the settings and see what happens. Thanks so much :D! Whiskey.

Hi folks, Sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but nothing came up. I tried to go online today, but it just wasn't happening. I was on the Warhawks teamspeak and WH_Toast really helped but I still couldn't get it to work. I'm pretty new to online gaming in general and have a very limted knowlege of networks and IP's etc etc so please be gentle. I'll try to give as detailed a description as I can. I am connected via a wireless router and that router automatically assigns a dynamic IP to my PC. Think this may be what the servers aren't liking. I can go through the hassle of re setting ports and assigning a static IP but there must be a way around this. Surely there must be a way to connect with dynamic IP's through a router, can anyone help? Thanks to WH_Toast for being so helpful anyway :). Whiskey. EDIT: I managed to connect to a server just now. What was odd about it was that it was the only server in the list that had a name and a description, I only see the others as IP's and there's no info on them, these are the ones I can't connect to. What could this be a symptom of?

This all just goes to show how real this sim is, if people are able to develop their own piloting style with regards to flight aides etc. Many good suggestions here and I'v taken them all on board. I know I'm not the first and I'm sure I won't be the last new pilot to have trouble with this particular function.

Agreed, it would be a really nice touch on top of the already stunning attention to detail in DCS: BS :). I expect that the A-10's wings would bend a fair bit with heavy payloads under high G's, it would be really funky to see that in game.
-
Trimming certainly has helped, looks like it's just a matter of practice :). I got everything lined up fine eventually, I'm getting pretty comfortable with the missile drill at least. Getting there, getting there - this sim just keep getting better!

Ok fair point, what would be your advice Kwill :)? There's more than one way to skin a cat after all ;). It is a tad jumpy without heading hold.

That did the trick thanks :)!

Hi guys, I'm having trouble with the rudder functions of the KA-50. Whenever I yaw in one direction, when I release the pedal the chopper swings back to almost its original heading. I suspect this is an autopilot function that I need to switch off, can anyone point me in the right direction. It makes linig up a Vikhr almost impossible....

There's a shot of the wire in the animation :), smoothed poly count is a couple of hundred k. High res hehe. Extruding from a plane or a box doesn't really matter which in the end. IMO there's no such thing as "box" modelling or "plane" modelling - it's all polygon modelling at the end of the day :).

Ultimate challenge: Defeating the mighty Carl Vinson

Ah fair enough. I suppose it would have added alot of extra work for something that would happen rarely in game. -
Ultimate challenge: Defeating the mighty Carl Vinson

I think Vinson has four or five Phalanx systems, each with their own fire control radar, so you're still up againt a potent threat - they were designed to defend against umbrella Soviet ASM strikes remember. So I don't know if it would be possible even with multiple KA-50 flights. You really need to hit her below the waterline as it will take forever to cripple her by firing into the flanks and flight deck, and I don't know if Vikhrs could cut that mustard. Rockets sue as hell couldn't do enough damage below the waterline. However all this is based on my knowlege of teh real world versions, but I'm willing to go with it becaue DCS is so accurate. Still, if it burns, there must be some way to kill it. -
Cheers man :D. Here's another, not 100% finished but nearly there. I like to do a variety of subjects both organic and hard edge. This guy's a Plateosaurus, a prosaurodpod. He looks a bit on the weird side doesn't he? But I was really lucky in that I was able to work with the paleontologists at Cardiff museum when making him, which was just awesome.

That would be great, cheers :)! I'll drop you a PM some time. I also joined the warhawks. I'm on GMT (UK) winter time. But I can play whenever I like - one of the perks of being self emloyed, I just have to work a little more in the evening if I play during the day :).

Hi all, Fairly new to this forum but I've done alot of 3D modelling. Here's one of my best pieces, hope you like it :): Some WIP renders from when I was making it: And an animation reel (sorry for the crappy quality): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGAPPYFrHhs

Thanks Snacko I'm sure I'll find it helpful. I'd also like to get onto teamspeak at some stage with other Black Shark pilots :).

Yeh I need to get round to buying it :P.

Haha what a story! And testament to the effort and ATD that ED put into making this sim. I've read Apache, it's cracking book and I bet the adrenaline must have been high when you were burning vapour! Great story thanks for sharing :).

Hi all another rookie here. I bought DCS a while ago but I'm only now starting to get to grips with it. I've just ordered a Saitek x45 (an old model but a bargain at £30 until I actually need something better) and I've rigged myself up a freetrack setup which is working beautifully. To say this sim is daunting is gross, gross understatement. But I am really looking forward to what I imagine will be an incredibly rewarding learning process. I guess practice practice practice is the key with this one. Although they do say that if you can't fly a chopper it takes you 40% less time to learn to fly the Black Shark than a regular chopper. I've gone through the getting started guide which was immensly helpful but I wont get far without a proper joystick so I'm taking the time to read the Documentation available before the X45 arrives. I can imagine that when you get enough experience to fly in an online attack squadron the £30 you spent in the beggining starts to feel like you mugged ED! What a bang for your buck! Are there rookie squadron's I can join? The realism of this game is sublime, in that its symaltaniously terrifying and captivating. This will be an interesting learning curve. In at the deep end ftw :)!! Whiskey.
