DML - Mission Creation Toolbox [no Lua required]
bitboy replied to cfrag's topic in Scripting Tips, Tricks & Issues
Yeah the lack of Quality Control has been in decline for quite some time now. In usual fashion there will be marketing spin about how they have developed stunning graphics for pilot model boot laces and yet no serious logistics system for the Chinook or as you point out, the DCS 'Save game/Save State" fiasco. Then I see in the Patch notes yesterday references to "DCS Voice Chat".....yeah nah, please no more efforts in that direction as previous experiences with that feature are buggy, performance impacting, and in no way comparable to SRS. I find myself failing to comprehend the programming directives, priorities, and quality control (lack thereof), at ED. Thankful for your diligence in maintaining DML with the ever changing hot mess that DCS can be at times. -
Yeah it sounded and looked ugly when they announced it, IMO ED is using this a beta test for further Dynamic Campaign development. Not exactly how I would do it. Not even touching for now, needs a lot of work, plus there are already community/author developed means of persistence or saved state that are far better.

LOL Men without Hats. I would call them a "one hit wonder" but they actually had another hit as well. The video for this was so goofy! -

Outstanding, thanks for the continued development. Intrigued and curious, looking forward to poking around the new undocumented stuff. Laughing nervously and slightly scared after your comment here: - wingTaskHelper - ugly. undocumented. You don't want know how the sausage is made. -

Possible Issue with objectSpawner? cfrag, Happy Saturday, building out a new mission and using the objectSpawner to create bullseye rings. I've specified "Container red 1" as the type of marker for the spawn. However whenever I run the mission the the objects default to the "Mark Tyre White" ??? Currently working with DML 2.2.2b, I've tested with older versions of the objectSpawner LUA, in case there was something weird with the latest code, but it's not working. It might be something in dcsCommon? (Other missions where I have the objectSpawner running seem to work fine?) Let me know if you need me to send over the mission. Here are screenshots of the loaded DML libraries and objectSpawner zone config. Thanks! -

Regarding the output a sound file based on a clients agl. While it can be tedious based on the number of players in your mission the following has worked well for me, with DML riding along just fine: 1) Create Switched Triggers based on a Unit in Zone and Unit AGL 2) In the conditions for the trigger setup the AGL above or below that you want to track/check for. 3) In the actions you can set a flag (for additional actions later), or output text, sound, as you see fit. As noted this can be tedious (as it's per unit), but it works well. -

Version 2.2.0 very slick new features, well done! -
cfrag, Had some feedback from some of the guys in my group and they think it's outstanding. The exact quote to me was, "perfect mix of rescue and enemy fire". Well done.

Yeah no worries I think I may have the Loading order of scripts incorrect, let me do some additional testing/troubleshooting and if needed I'll shoot the message. Thanks -

Hey cfrag, Happy Wednesday, running into a strange error when testing Persistence. Basically start the mission with Persistence set to autosave for every 5 minutes using the default path (so basically saving in the Missions folder). Running in verbose mode and all the indications in mission and in the folder are that Persistence is working fine. So I run it intially in the Mission Editor, let it roll so that there are a couple of saves. Then exit the ME and relaunch in just regular DCS using the "mission" menu option. It loads then I get the error message below, once I clear the error it continues to load and the "saved state" appears to be just fine, but no activity from any RED zones and no previous RED units have been saved. ?? Not sure what's happening here. I can send you the mission if you like. Thxs -

cfrag, With your release of DML 2.0.3 I had a quick question. Is there a recommended upgrade path with DML? For example, should I swap out DML modules in a mission under development with DML 2.0.2 to newer DML 2.0.3? (I understand that not all modules are necessarily updated when you do a release). I'm just curious if you have a "recommendation" or if the old "if it ain't broke don't fix it" rule applies here. I know that anything that I've started working on since DML 2.0.3, has had that version (and associated modules) as part of the development cycle. Thxs -

Ahhh the Pulser, good point, never thought of that, interesting. Wiring for each airframe....yes unwieldy, but that would encourage a limited number of aircraft. I'll investigate, thanks for the insight. -

cfrag, Any means of running a StopWatch type of function with DML? I'm looking at delayFlags but they seem to be countdown oriented. The scenario I'm trying to implement, would be a race course with gates (trigger zones), Start a timer, get a lap time at each gate, then total elapsed time at finish. Possibly some penalty for exceeding a specified altitude. The use of the messenger module seems well suited for this as well. As always any insight is appreciated. Thxs -
