  1. Exactly what weapons are in each of these places, and how many men are in each one? Which give the best and worst protection to whoever's inside? And incidentally, why do big white clouds sometimes appear around vehicles that are being shot at like this?
  2. Thanks guys, PC dummy here again..:) But nope I still don't get it, look I put my two NATO tanks in the middle and then placed two AI Russki tanks to pincer them. Then I went to the trigger screen to try to make just one of the russkis (the left or right one) randomly appear at the start of the game- But I was completely stuck at the trigger screen (below) because it's like a blank canvas and I haven't a clue which buttons to click on, and in what sequence. I've put in 5000 hours on Armed Assault and its random procedure is much simpler, you just draw a circle of any size around units and they spawn at game start anywhere in it. Hey I forgot to ask, is there a Combined Arms Editor manual somewhere?
  3. Thanks yes I need all the pretty pics I can get..:) -------------------------------------------------------- Hey SFC Tako, I tried to play the RandomSpawn miz file you sent, but the message below came up and it froze when I tried to continue. My current DCS World version is 2.5.6, is the editor version separate or what?
  4. Thanks guys, I'm a PC dummy but I'll have a go..:) Hey Shadow, what sort of "triggers" should I use?
  5. When I create a single player mission in the editor like this, I will always know the exact starting location and waypoints of the AI enemy units. Is there any way to give them a random start location so I won't know where they'll be coming from? Then every game will be different and unpredictable and exciting.
  6. Danke, wunderbar..:)
  7. Hi guys, old fart 72-yr-old veteran wargamer here, I've put in 5000 hours on Armed Assault and just have just bought Combined Arms. Couple of noob questions- 1- When in external view like this screenshot, is there a way to zoom the whole view? I don't mean zoom just the tank, i know how to do that with the mouse wheel, I mean zoom the horizon so we can see what's lurking there? (In Armed Assault, holding the right mouse button zooms it.) 2- Next question- I placed these 3 Abrams in the mission-build editor, but when I move the lead tank, the other two tanks won't follow him and stay put. I can't seem to find a way in the editor to group the tanks into a single group and designate a leader who they'll follow-
  8. Thanks, I found them touch wood, here's the labyrinthine navigation path for any other noob, just make sure you unwind a ball of string as you go in- ProgFiles (x86) > Steam > Steamapps > Common > DCSWorld > Mods > Tech > CombinedArms > Missions > Single
  9. I bought CA recently and have been creating small experimental missions and they work fine, and now I want to delete some to reduce clutter, but I can't find them anywhere on my system! I go to User - Saved Games > DCS > Missions, and all my missions from F/A-18 Hornet are listed, but my CA missions are not in the list. Where are they?
  10. Thanks yes, i'll check out some Combined Arms vids and buy it if I like it..:) EDIT- okay I just bought CA..:)
  11. Hi guys, as a longtime wargamer i've been dabbling in the F/A-18 Hornet editor trying to set up a wargame, eg a group of my tanks versus a group of the AI's tanks. When I start the mission they trundle towards each other along the waypoints I pre-set in the editor, and start shooting at each other on their own initiative which is great. I can change the zoomable/pannable view from tank to tank with the F7 key just fine and be a passive observer as in the screenshot below, but I don't want to just observe, I want to give them new waypoints during play, is that possible somehow? (PS- I don't actually want to get inside the tanks, I'm happy to stay in external view if only I could at least give the formation new routes from time to time to suit the ebb and flow of the battle)
  12. Hmm..so apparently I paid a whopping 62 GB pounds (75 US dollars) for DCS F/A-18 Hornet and find it contains a number of highly unrealistic features that much cheaper flight sims to their credit don't have, grrrr..
  13. Thanks guys, I plugged in my new Thrustmaster T Flight Stick X and it works fine, but for good measure I just installed the latest drivers from their website (I think) and it still works fine. I say "I think" because the download procedure was a bit complicated (I'm a grunt flight simmer/wargamer not a geek) so whether the download went in alright there's no way of telling..:)
  14. I ran some tests today in which I'd switched off my radar so the AI pilots wouldn't know I was buzzing around, and I also made them all 'Average' skill level, but it had no effect, they still popped flares the instant I fired Sidewinders from any angle and any range, it's highly unrealistic and doesn't do the reputation of DCS and the devs any good at all, grrr..
  15. At the moment I'm finding the best way to overcome the AI's flare-popping frenzy is to give myself unlimited weapons so I can fire repeated volleys of Sidewinders at the AI planes, his flares/chaff will decoy some but not all, hehe. Sure, to Alice watching from the ground the skies will look like a cross between a fireworks display and a nuthouse but hey that's war..:) "Oh I do so wish something would make sense for a change"- Alice in Wonderland
  16. Right, as a longtime wargamer, I make love like I play wargames, quickly, brutally, decisively..:) Gen. Erwin Rommel- "Concentrate strength at one point, force a breakthrough, roll up the flanks, penetrating like lightning deep into the rear before the enemy has time to react"
  17. I just bought a new joystick, plugged it into my PC and it works but in the documentation it says "visit our website to download the latest drivers" Do I really need to do that? What's the point? PS- In fact when I've bought other joysticks over the years I've simply plugged them in and they've worked fine too without downloading any drivers..:)
  18. Good point, i'll try switching off my radar in case radar sweeps wake them up and makes them stand by with their fingers on the flares/chaff button, and report back to this thread later.
  19. Who me? Nah mate I can't afford a car, all my money goes on women..:)
  20. What drives me crazy is the fact that when I fire a Sidewinder at an AI plane, it instantly begins popping flares even if I was literally miles away when I fired! How the heck did the enemy plane know I'd fired? It happens no matter what type of enemy plane it is (transport/fighter-bomber etc), and even his helis do it, sheesh! Surely it can't be realistic?
  21. I've just found out why I kept running off the end of the runway after landing; it's because I thought you simply had to tap the wheel brakes key to engage them, but you don't, you have to HOLD THE KEY DOWN to keep the brakes on, duh... PS- you can test to see if your WB key is working by taxiing along a runway and going to external side view, and you should see the nose dip slightly as you hold down the WB key, and your speed readout should also drop dramatically..:) My key assignment-
  22. For the record here are a couple of screenshots I took 10 minutes ago in Hornet version 2.5.6 to illustrate how enemy planes pop flares at longish range the instant I fire a Sidewinder at them which makes me think they've either got launch detectors or eyes like hawks, I dunno which..:)
  23. thanks guys, I'm having second thoughts about buying a laptop because of possible overheating; I know we can get fans, but their whirring might set my teeth on edge..:)
  24. I (PoorOldSpike) asked- Just about EVERY type of russki plane and heli in the game will pop chaff/flares the instant we fire a Sidewinder at them, even at very long range, so presumably they've all got missile launch detectors or eyes like hawks, which is it? PS- and if they've got detectors why hasn't our Hornet? ------------------------------------------------------------ Yeah that's what seems to be happening now, so reality flies out the window (sniffle) What, are you saying that's how the AI used to be in the past?
  25. Thanks guys, but the "no engine sound in external view looking at nose" glitch has now seemed to have cleared up on its own, maybe the latest Win 10 or Hornet upgrades cured it..:)
