  1. Thanks, I can make missions ok in the editor but I'm a PC dummy and scripting is a mystery to me but i'll have a crack anyway..:) PS I'm starting a new thread soon about tests for Air Defence units to find out which are the best.
  2. I dunno if ammo amount can be changed, but my main issue with Tomahawks is that when we fire them, they all hit the exact same spot instead of spreading out in a scatter pattern so that we could wipe out an entire village. I might run more tests later.
  3. Have the games Tico and Burke got any anti-vehicle weapons anyway? I know the Tico has got Tomahawk cruise missiles but the last time I played with them I think they could only be targetted against points on the ground, not against vehicles.
  4. So just to recap, you asked which Blue point-defence units can engage missiles and glide bombs. I posted tests with every Blue AA gun and every SAM unit (including long range ones) against incoming Russian KH-29T TV-guided missiles, and the only Blue AD units (AI) that engaged them were the Rapier and the Roland, so that answers your question, at least regarding KH-29T's. It'd take me forever to test all the other Russian missiles and glide bombs and I don't have the time, but if you can narrow it down by telling me what specific ones you want me to test, I'll have a crack at it. PS- just to clarify, "point-defence" means short range, so don't get them mixed up with longer-ranged "area defence" units WIKI- "Point-defence is the defence of a single object or a limited area, e.g. a ship, building or an airfield, now usually against air attacks and guided missiles. Point-defence weapons have a smaller range in contrast to area-defence systems and are placed near or on the object to be protected"
  5. Yes I tried everything but half the time the 098 seemed to have a mind of its own and wouldn't follow orders, for examp I told it to dive and it started going down, but then popped back up again. So DCS needs to do a lot more work on subs because at the moment it's impossible to make them do what we want.
  6. This Abrams AP round is very scary..:)
  7. Earlier in this thread I tested the FSG Type 093 Attack sub (093 SSN) against a small Russian FSG Molniya, here's a re-run. (I used the 093 (below) because it seems to be the most reliable sub in the game, but it still has some bugs and glitches. (The other subs are terribly buggy/ glitchy until DCS fixes them) Pic 1- I launched the 093's torpedos at that small stationary Russian FSG Molniya but it must have spotted my periscope and begins damaging the sub with its gun- Pic 2- Good golly miss Molniya! The ship gets payback bigtime as my torps slam into it..:) SUMMARY- Although the 093 is the easiest sub in the game to handle, it still has a few bugs/ glitches, for example it sometimes ignores our orders and won't follow waypoints, or won't dive, or won't lower its periscope etc, so at the moment doing lots of tests with different types of enemy ships would be a waste of time until DCS fixes things. At least this test showed that an enemy ship might fire its gun at a sub if it spots its periscope.
  8. Thanks, i'll read up on the real-life Patriot to find out more, as oviously the game doesn't always mimic real life..:)
  9. "Point defence" means close-range, but the Patriot is a long-range anti-aircraft SAM, that's why it can't engage small KH-29T missiles; I ran multiple tests and it never fired once. However it DID fire at SU-25T aircraft at 10 mile range, look- Below: for the record here are the current Blue Air Defence units in the game-
  10. There are lots of missile types so I just ran these tests against incoming Russian TV-guided KH-29T missiles, (they're the equivalent of the TV guided Maverick F) Of all the Blue AAA and SAM's, only the Rapier and Roland fired at the KH-29T's, check this vid of Rapier/ Avenger/ Chapparal/ Roland- Here are screenshots of tests with the other Blue AAA and SAM's, no need for me to video them because NONE fired at KH-29T's- Here's what the KH-29T looks like being launched from an SU-25T- Below: Gepard/ Bofors/ Vulcan/ Linebacker/ 88 Flak, none fired at the KH-29T's- Below: Stinger Manpad/ Hawk/ Patriot, none fired at KH-29T's SUMMARY- Like I said, the only Blue Air Defence units that fired against KH-29T's were the Rapier and Roland. Maybe the other AD units will fire against other types of missiles but there are so many it'd take me forever to test them all, so I plumped for just testing them against the KH-29T.
  11. Just happened to see this vid of a CIWS in action on land which is welcome news because I've been saying for a while they could be used on land as well as on ships. But at the moment land-based CIWS systems don't seem to be in DCS..
  12. My tests are single-player AI Avenger vs AI SU-25T's, and yes the Avengers kill rate is usually a bit less than 50%, that is to say when it fires its 8 Stingers, only about 3 or 4 will hit, and the rest will be decoyed away by flares. But that's still a pretty good kill ratio, and if you've also got another couple of Avengers on the field, the three of them will fire a total of 24 Stingers and kill a total of between 9 to 12 aircraft, not bad at all..:) Here's another test vid, the Avenger (average skill) fires its 8 Stingers at incoming AI SU-25T's (veteran skill) and scores 3 kills-
  13. The US Avenger is my favourite Blue short-range (2.4nm) SAM because it fires 8 x Stinger SAMs in quick succession under AI control..:) Here are pics of it, and a vid of it in action against SU-25T's. Automatic reload time is almost 6 minutes with or without an ammo truck. Sorry about the poor picture quality, I used my tablet camera, let me know if the vid don't work-
  14. Haha dunno if it's already been mentioned but somebody at DCS has got a sense of humour, run your mouse cursor over the christmas lights at the top of the screen..:)
  15. What exactly do you mean by "point defence"? There are CIWS gatling-type guns, AAA guns and short-range SAMS, and all will shoot at aircraft, and some will also shoot at missiles. Does that answer your question?
  16. MobiSev asked-Does blue have any reliable point defense SAM systems? ---------------------------------------------------------------- It depends what you're shooting at, planes or missiles? Meanwhile I did this thread a few weeks ago if anybody's interested-
  17. DCS World was released years ago so I'm surprised they still haven't made a flyable Apache, my cash is waiting to buy one..:)
  18. i placed a T-72B3 on the map in the editor to test it out, but when I started the mission it wasn't anywhere on the map! As regards the M-60, it appears in the mission just fine, but although we can't get inside it, we can still move it around with waypoints on the map, then hit F7 to ride along with it in external 3rd-person.
  19. Try NOT cancelling an old mission, just plonk a new mission and the arty unit will hopefully use that one. I seem to remember doing that in the past and it seemed to work so it's worth a try.
  20. Yeah it's either a bug or else the developers haven't got round to finishing the tanks properly yet.
  21. I was a tank driver in an Arma3 game and i could only see through the narrow vision slit, I had no way of knowing what was going on all around, and felt like killing myself with boredom..:)
  22. The fact remains that not having a flyable Apache makes ED look bad. Other flight sims have the Apache..;)
  23. I just ran this 2S19 test and it worked fine for me. Tip- after setting the waypoint don't forget to drag the speed slider at the bottom to kickstart it into moving-
  24. And always remember, when you're in command, COMMAND! In other words, fly just as you please and don't be a slave to the manual and tutorial instructions..:)
  25. PoorOldSpike said- I like external views (also called 3rd-person views) in 3D wargames because it's more realistic. Games without them are like first-person shooters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well with 1st-person you're looking through the eyes of your character and it feels like you've got your head in a box with slits for the eyes and with no situational awareness and I hated it when I tried it in all sorts of 3D games..:)
