  1. Yep, I have the exact same problem. Unless you hit the target nothing will happen. This is not how cluster munition works, it should cover an area and cause at least some damage.

    If so, these are Kortbanor runways built as part of the Bas 90 system (airbases that completed the Flygbassystem 90 upgrade would've had 3 kortbanor road runways, in addition to the main airbase).

    Jokkmokk also has them to, they are here, here and here.

    Vidsel also has its own road runway further to the south-west, which was built as part of the Bas 60 system.

    And yes, I really hope we get them, there's enough resources on the internet to find them and they are clearly visible in satellite imagery.

    Yes, that's exactly what I meant. It would be great if those were made to be usable features. For sure the Harrier community will love it.

    I've got these switches available for you cockpit builders out there. I have multiple in stock of almost all of the switches. 

    I am located in France but visit the UK frequently so can ship from both countries to keep shipping cost down. Prices in pics are per switch and without shipping. If you buy multiple I can knock a few euros off.  Paypal or bank transfer , whatever you prefer.

    2 position Honeywell switch. I know these are crazy expensive and not for your average sim builder. These switches are hard to find used and new are about 150 euros.

    Thanks, I know but i was wondering which real world bombing ranges there are on this map? I'm not familiar with the area so no idea where the ranges are.

  7. Dear Orbx, 

    Looking at the Vidsel test range and the roads northwest of the airfield it looks like there are roads that are used for operations , can you please confirm if this will be implemented too? So will those roads be free of traffic and usable by all modules?   

    I think this would interest a lot of Viggen , Harrier, F-18 and A-10 players.

    Yes, it did depend. I can't remember the exact terminology, but there were areas in South Vietnam that were so infested with communist Viet Cong that they were almost free fire zones. The Navy A-4s never were in direct contact with the troops on the ground. The only radio in an A-4E of the time was an AN/ARC-27 which was an AM UHF-VHF radio. I believe troops had a VHF FM radio. The FACs could talk to us and to the troops. I don't recall working with a ground FAC, but I know that the Marines had some FACs with frontline units.

    There we two different classes of FACs fast movers in something like an F-100F in the high threat areas of South Vietnam, but most FACs were in slower prop aircraft. I do remember one mission off the Independence where we ended up in a stack over a FAC along with a flight of A-6 Intruders from the Indy. We were loaded with either 250lb or 500lb bombs. The FAC was working a tree line next to a stream and calling us in one at a time.

    All of a sudden he announced that he was taking fire from the other side of the stream and wanted to know if anyone was in position to roll in. The A-4s were all out of position but an A-6 called, the FAC fired a rocket with a white phosphorus warhead where he wanted the bomb and cleared the A-6 in Hot. All four A-6s were loaded with five 2,000lb bombs. When the bomb exploded, the FAC went wild . . . "Holy <profanity>! What was that? Do you have any more?" The Intruder driver told him he had 4 more and each of the three remaining A-6s had five of those bombs.

    The FAC had each of the A-6s lay down a stik of bombs 50 meters down the tree line from the last bomb impact. A total of 20 tons of bombs tore the trees apart. If the Viet Cong soldier survived, I am confident he was more circumspect about choosing his targets after that. That wasn't the only time on a close air support mission that some Viet Cong soldier had the sky fall on him or her because a FAC was targeted.

    Meanwile some landing strips has not planned to use with moder fighters, others has airbase has modern fighters capables. And dont see any problem to take off from a grass airport.

     

    The most remarkable thing about those videos are the colours of the textures. It all looks so much more realistic than how the Normandy map looks like now. I wonder why the textures/colours changed.

  12. I was also thinking that Lakenheath would be very popular for the F15 Strike Eagle guys. Bentwaters for the A-10 folks.

    Not sure about bases for that part of England for Typhoon and former F4 squadrons. 

    Either way, I will use this map with modern jets. May just need to use mods to give the base a modern day feel. 

    I dont really care about the 40s style roads and buildings. Can't really see that detail when screaming around low level at 500 kts.  😈

    was the engine failure preceded by anything? Master caution, low oil pressure, high ITT, etc…

    do you have the fire handle mapped to anything? Accidentally hitting that will kill an engine.

     

    The master caution came on, gen dropped offline and it seemed like a flameout.  Good point about about the fire handle, I don't think it got triggered but I do have a full Harrier pit setup so perhaps one of the inputs there may have triggered it. I'll have a look

    Yes, birds are enabled.  Random failures not enabled, i think, I'd need to double check but I think they're off by default. 

  15. Hi guys, the last few times I flew the Hog I had a random engine failure, not had that ever happen before.

    Today the failure happened 5 mins after take off , I was low level and had the throttles at full since take off.   

    I guess it could be a birdstrike?

    The A-10 does not have a max time limit for max thrust,  does it?

    Thanks for reporting this. The bug has been found and fixed. It should be fixed with the next patch.

  17. In the mission editor the wind speed that you set at 33ft is always doubled for the wind at 1600 ft and the speed increase happens pretty quickly as you climb above 70ish ft or so. 

    The downside of this is that the wind transition from sea-level to 1600 ft and vice-versa can be quite abrupt, almost wind shear like. Not noticeable for high performance jets but if you're coming in for a hover in the Harrier it can be frustrating. 

    I think it would be good to remove the restriction and have the ability to adjust the 1600 ft wind speed ourselves in the ME

     I just tested it out. I put 3 tanks in a line, 200 ft apart. And it looks like this. 16 mtrs is 52.5 ft.   The yardstick should be 100ish ft. So it seems to be double what it says it is.
