atsmith6 Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I'm in the process of learning the cockpit in depth and have come across something not covered by the manual - or at least I can't find it. The radar & countermeasures panel has four countermeasures buttons (or literally 'radar interferes' by the labels): - Continuous, - Temporary, - Low Speed, - Passive. Are these implemented yet and if so is there anywhere where I might find documentation on using them? If they are not implemented yet, are there plans to do so or should I forget about them in the context of the DCS mig? Many thanks in advance. The effort involved in learning this plane thus far has been nothing but a complete pleasure.
xxJohnxx Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Yes, they are included to some level. Let's start with the Low Speed mode. It should be used whenever you try to find a target that has a low relative speed to either you (aircraft flying in the same direction) or the ground (helicopters). Then there are the three anti-jamming (ECCM) modes: passive, temporary and continues. The exact usage of those modes is beyond my knowledge, but I personally use them from left to right, trying to find a mode on which I can acquire the target. This means, whenever I get a jamming target, I go ahead and press the continues mode button. If I can see the target, I will use it to engage, if I can't see it I will switch to the temporary mode. Same thing, if it works, I will keep it, else I will switch to the passive mode. Maybe not the exact procedure, but it works fairly well. Art-J Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Low speed filter is covered on manual page 138, though I haven't tested how efficient/non-efficient it actually is. The other three - they all work but usually seem to be doing the same thing - I'd guess it's the result of generally simplified electronic warfare modeling in DCS, which is kinda... meh at the moment. Keep in mind that when any of these is turned on, the TDC gates on the radar get locked and You cannot adjust them anymore, making locking target a bit more tricky. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
atsmith6 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Thank you xxJohnxx very much for the quick reply. That's really helped a lot! Also, many thanks for the videos you made. They were invaluable in getting me over the initial hurdles of getting to grips with this aircraft. For me, and I'm certain very many others, they have been invaluable. Kind Regards
atsmith6 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Low speed filter is covered on manual page 138 Excellent. I appear to have missed that. Heading there now. Keep in mind that when any of these is turned on, the TDC gates on the radar get locked and You cannot adjust them anymore. Is this a bug, or related to how they work? Does hitting the Cancel button unlock the TDC gates again?
xxJohnxx Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Is this a bug, or related to how they work? Does hitting the Cancel button unlock the TDC gates again? That seems to be how these modes work. Cancelling frees the TDC gates again. Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled
atsmith6 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Thanks again to both of you xxJohnxx and Art-J
