JF-17 Radar - Unable to get onto MFCD, also unable to jetteson fuel tanks

Hello again,

Working throught the systems, I am unable to get the radar to show on the MFCDs (the button animates, but doesn't display). AAP is CMBT, ECS is NORM, otherwise started as per Jabber's and GR videos.

Tutorials using the radar seem to start with it already on an MFCD, so I can't see if there is a step I am missing.

Also, when I try to jettison tanks, (they are red, which I presume is empty), they don't jettison with Weapon release. Missiles fire off the rails to jettison when those stores are selected, but the tanks stay there. Master arm is on, AA-AG switch is AA.

FYI, the CONFIG warning is on as well.

Thanks in advance

If you have tanks on you always need to be in AG and AG2. If it’s showing as red you might have over-G-ed your tanks and they’re hung. You can also over-G other munitions and they’ll just be dead on the pylons.

As for your radar, do you switch out of start up mode into NAV? Posting a track might help to resolve that issue.

Confirming the the INS mode is in NAV. Don't have a track ATM. If I put it in dogfight mode the radar is on, but locked to a very short range.

Getting late here ATM, so will follow up tomorrow.

Thanks

Plz describe further on "unable to get the radar to show on the MFCD"?

Did the radar page didn't show up? Or, you can not see any contact with the radar page?

If you can't find any contact and started mission on the ground, once airborne, deselect the "SIL" and "STBY" on radar page to get the radar activated(assume you have AAP and ECS on).

------------------

For the tanker, if a store is red, there are 2 main cause:

1. the SMS config is wrong, need update DTC and reload(usually happen on ground)

2. you have over stressing the stores and pylons by pulling too much G(usually happened in the air), the pylon is damaged, so it showed up as RED. You won't able to fire on a damaged pylon.

The AA/AG modes are pretty simple once you understand their logic:

A/G2 = Any wing tank is fitted. This mode only applies to wing tanks.

A/G1 = Any air-to-ground ordance is fitted (NOT including pods or centerline fuel tank).

A/A = Air-to-air mode (including pods or centerline fuel tank).

There are some other details:

A/A mode limits AoA to +27 (max limit); g to +8.0 <Mach 0.85 (max limit) and +6.0 >=Mach 0.85 (max limit).

A/G1 mode limits AoA to +18 and g to +6.0 at all speeds

A/G2 mode limits AoA to +15 and g to +4.5 at all speeds.

The JF-17 is not better than the F-16; it's different. It's how you fly that counts.

Pressing the RDR button on the MFD did nothing is what "unable to get the radar to show on the MFCD" means. The button animates but nothing happens, nothing on the MFCD changes from whatever is displaying to the radar being displayed.

Can you post a screenshot?

You are switching on everything on the AAP panel, right hand side next to the battery and engine generator switches? They should all be lit in green.

Check your electrical looks like the below.

If that is correct, then look at my center MFD. See the ASTERISK (*) symbol? That means this display is SENSOR OF INTEREST.

It doesn't matter for the menu - the OSB the (*) is next to is the MENU key as well (even though it has no label). Press it, and the menu will appear. Select RDR. It will show the RADAR on this screen in this master mode (e.g. NAV mode).

Do you have the HOTAS set up, or know the keybinds for the JF-17 HOTAS functions? It's required to be able to operate the aircraft.
