On the Mi-8's that have hardpoints installed, the UV-26 flare system works normally. However, the Mi-8's that do not have them installed, the UV-26 system seems to be inoperable:

With the UV-26 powered on, and the COUNTER/PROGRAM switch set to COUNTER, the left or right dispenser counter selections will show 000; but when set to both, the total count displayed 006 (singleplayer), or six random numbers running off the panel (multiplayer). Even though the flare count is set to 192 in the mission editor, the rearm/refuel menu will display 0, and the ground crew won't refill the dispensers.

The flares themselves won't dispense of course (dispensers were reading empty in rearm/refuel). The panel itself seems to function fine in PROGRAM mode, I could program whatever I wanted, just wouldn't do any good.

To test this out, I used the same mission file in SP and MP, the same aircraft slot; with armor, IR suppressors and engine health bars were both set to 100% (I doubt any of that matters, but that's for programmers to decide). First go around WITHOUT hardpoints, UV-26 was inoperable as described above. Second go WITH hardpoints, UV-26 worked normally. Third go around WITHOUT hardpoints again, same results as the first.

Did you resave the mission in 1.2.8?

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Yep, sure did.

If you have the hardpoints disabled (="civilian" version), you also will have no flare dispensers installed. This is by design, I believe, as it is the same for the Huey.

But the behaviour of the dispenser panel should be at least consistent with that, yes.

So you're saying that a Russian or Georgian Army Mi-8 without hardpoints installed is considered a "civilian" helicopter in DCS?

If it's coded that way, that's silly.

BST could perhaps implement the flare dispenser as a loadout option - similar to the ASO-2 of the MiG-21.

But a workaround, a mod ... no, probably not that easy.
