Hi all,

It would be nice to have real world tactical exercises in a DCS Global Map

For example...............

  • Blue Flag - Video:-

**** More info here .............. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Military_aviation_exercises

Also adding more Theaters of War with various Campaigns.......... http://tactical.nekromantix.com/f4/falcon-4-pmc-theaters.php :thumbup: :smilewink:

As DCS develops further you could have many Western vs Russian or Euro modern fighter air craft training scenarios simulating the real thing A-A and A-G plus Land and Sea Battlefield scenarios. I also take interest in ARMAIII so much from that game could be brought over to DCS.

There is also this thread created for the same intent Advanced A.i Real World Tactics Simulation............ http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=128532 ............. now with more air craft like here ..... http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2154802&postcount=6 ............ this could be a dream come true, for all!

I see that now that DCS is soon releasing the "Nevada Training Range" this could open up heaps of new tactical possibilities and air craft that participate in the joint mission phase.

I encourage any further discussion in thread that would improve the idea further Especially for 3rd Party Developers looking at creating DCS MAPS.

Please watch kool...............

DCS Tactical Battlefiled Air Support Combat Simualtions

Hello all,

Just starting a further chat on the above, would like some input in this thread by ED-DCS Developers if at all possible as to the Road Map or Vision for the DCS Series Simulator.

What I'm looking for in a "Air Combat Sim" as an interested member and hobby enthusiast in military simulation is for an in-depth "TACTICAL AIR SUPPORT COMBAT STUDY SIM" in Single Player Advanced A.i and extended to Mult-Players SQDRN implementation.

This thread is about building and developing this sim as it should be ................. Not just a "Military Air Craft Collectors Sim"!

I just dont understand the mish-mash approach currently as you see this nice sim developing, there needs to be direction sure you can have commercial aviation or WW1 but lets finish the Air Combat side first, yeah! Not a mish-mash with no concept, just mindless multi-player junkie sim approach, but a more in-depth Air Combat Study Sim!

Thats why Falcon 4.0 is regarded as the King of Sims - http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/content.php?53

DCS needs to incorporate More Theaters / Campaigns for example - http://tactical.nekromantix.com/f4/theaters.php

More modern military air craft with at least 60% working avionics with a PFM and full-click-able cockpits that are part of the military operations in the realistic sense.

Also this link.................. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2154802&postcount=6

Incorporating better training would be beneficial also improving on the current Single-Player Tutorials that are somewhat helpful but not meeting the mark from a study sim aspect simulating cadet to fully commissioned pilot.

Some nice video examples:-

Note:- Only comment if your interested in the Topic no need for any nay sayers provoker type responses or other non relative responses, Thanks!

Also consider.................

Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World) is a free-to-play digital military aircraft battlefield simulation developed by Eagle Dynamics (ED).

It includes a free Sukhoi Su-25T attack aircraft and TF-51D Mustang, and is extensible through additional DCS modules as well as user-made add-ons and mods.

DCS World includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region that encompasses much of Georgia - the location of the Russo-Georgian war in 2008.

Additionally, DCS World includes: powerful mission and campaign editors, online multiplayer, massive inventory of air, land and sea combat units and weapons, advanced AI, fast mission generator, dynamic weather and seasons, training missions, mission replay system, and pilot log book.

This all allows the creation of engaging, real-world combat missions in this flashpoint region. DCS is a true "sandbox" simulation that can and will in the future cover multiple time periods covering many types of combat and civilian units. DCS World allows both realistic game play and more relaxed game play to suit the player.

DCS modules that can plug into DCS World include aircraft, maps, ground units, campaigns, etc. Not only does DCS World include modules developed internally by Eagle Dynamics, but it also includes those by certified third party developers. The first third party aircraft to be introduced was the UH-1H Huey.

Future and upcoming modules include the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet, Focke-Wulf Fw 190, BAE Systems Hawk, and Bell AH-1 Cobra.

Study Sims

Modern jet combat aircraft and helicopters have a variety of complex electronic and weapon systems that are specific to a particular aircraft. This has led to a genre called the "study sim", which focuses on modelling an aircraft's systems as accurately as possible, often requiring thick manuals that rival the real manuals in detail. EF2000 might be an early iteration of such games, and when released by Digital Image Design (DiD) in 1995 it quickly garnered a cult following, including a user group that produced a detailed online manual of weapons and tactics. Soon afterward, a collaborative effort between Electronic Arts and Jane's specialized in such sims in the 1990s with titles such as Jane's Longbow, Jane's Longbow 2, Jane's F-15 and Jane's F/A-18.

Falcon 4.0 is perhaps the highest regarded example of this genre. This detailed simulation of the USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon was based on a series first begun in 1987 (Falcon). Later iterations improved the fidelity of avionics, weapons systems, physics, and flight models until version 4 was released by Spectrum HoloByte (later marketed by MicroProse) in 1998. Official development stopped after a few updates, but thanks to the intervention of MicroProse Chairman Gilman Louie, the Falcon 4 community took over development of further versions and add-ons. As of 2011, the community development is still highly active.

Helicopter simulations have their own story, beginning with Gunship, by MicroProse, in 1986. Nearly ten years later, in 1995, Digital Integration released Apache Longbow. The most sophisticated helicopter game to date, it would only be exceeded by Origin the year following. In 1996, Jane's AH-64D Longbow was created by Origin and released by Electronic Arts as part of the Jane's Combat Simulator series. The sequel, Jane's Longbow 2, was released late in 1997, improving every aspect of the game, particularly the terrain and objects. (Longbow 2 was one of the early simulations to take advantage of hardware accelerated graphics including advanced lighting). The following year, in 1998, Empire Interactive released Enemy Engaged: Apache vs Havoc allowing players to choose to fly for either the USA or for Russia. Meanwhile NovaLogic released the final iteration of their Comanche series in 2001.

The Digital Combat Simulator started with its first release DCS: Black Shark in 2008 a series of simulations, which can only be compared with Falcon 4.0 (and may excel the older simulation). The PC game simulates the Russian Kamov Ka-50 attack helicopter and was developed by Eagle Dynamics in cooperation with helicopter-manufacturer Kamov (the Kamov-logo can be found in the main-screen). The simulation features a complete and detailed cockpit of the Ka-50. All relevant switches are accurately modelled and functional. Over 500 key-commands are mapped, but the fully interactive cockpit allows virtually every switch and radio-button to be clicked and changed.[5]

Besides the traditional input-devices such as joystick, throttle and pedals, DCS has a built-in support for TrackIR with 6 DOF, creating (in conjunction with the interactive 3D-cockpit) a very realistic experience.

Due to the increased flexibility of the DCS system, additional fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter add-ons will be released as (independent) "modules" one by one, each module providing another realistic vehicle. The latest module released (release date September 21, 2012) features the North American P-51 Mustang.

CLARIFICATION OF TERMS USED IN AIR COMBAT SIMULATORS

Now terms like “Theaters, Campaigns, Missions, Battlefield, Artificial Intelligence, (A.i), Warfare”

.....… etc are not owned by any game title including Micrprose/Atari Falcon 4.0 but the very essence of anything relating to military defense and strategy games.

Some links to read:-

Military (Theaters )Warfare:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_theater

Military Wars:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War

Military (Campaign) Warfare:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_campaign

Artificial intelligence (video games):- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artific...video_games%29

"No Game Title” or “EULA” owns those terms legally!

They are concepts or descriptions and they are found in every video game that’s based around WAR as per say.

i.e.

* Call of Duty

* Battlefied4

* HAWX2

* FSX

* ED-DCS A10-C ............... Even your own Campaign Mission Editor - Georgian Theater of War

…………………… for example and many more games use those terms.

Now going back to my discussion its more of a “Please” will DCS develop more “Theaters of WAR with Military Campaigns" that have been fought “Historically or Theoretical" scenarios in Modern WAR Theaters. This is what makes a combat sim and I prefer Single Player with Multi Player capable.

The discussion is evolving from an undefined “GFX Engine” to a defined “GFX Engine” that DCS is moving with, and these are questions yet to be answered as many here or customers of your product would love to know about. That is the intents and purposes of the “EDGE GFX Engine” and how that will develop with DCS.

Military Historical and Theoretical Wars:-

* Vietnam

* Taiwan

* Balkans

* Korean

* Afghanistan

* Israeli - Yom Kipor

* Iraq – Operation Desert Storm

* Europe's Fall

* Libyan Crisis

……………… just to name a few, with so many possibilities, the creativity here is as far as the imagination of developers!

Thats why many others as myself use this link as an example to illustrate what can be done in a DCS Series ( DSC Theaters with Dynamic or Advanced A.i Campaign) ......... http://www.lead-pursuit.com/download...e_campaign.pdf

Also this is a kool read ............... http://www.stanford.edu/dept/HPS/TimLenoir/Publications/Lenoir-Lowood_TheatersOfWar.pdf

So I hope I have raised a better argument for discussion for DCS Theaters of WAR with Dynamic Campaigns say 3 per Theater. Also suitable GFX Engines and direction, its really a critical part to Air Combat that has been missing for a long time now.

You got to expect from people either buying this product or using it to ask probing questions about development plans with thoughts and expressions and referencing other products to some respectable sense. Its only natural that people are curious and desire more from this product.

The point is about developing more "DCS Theaters of WAR" with at least three A.i Dynamic Campaigns, that's what people enjoy in Combat Simulators!

I hope that reads better and discussion taken for what it is in this Thread!

Maybe this development section creating Theaters for DCS could be allowed as open source or some sort of Community Project arrangement using a plug-in and modeling tools and submit that to DCS Developers, whilst the DCS Source code still remains guarded and private.................. just some kind of open door to develop further what the DCS community would like.

Well just sharing out lowed, no harm in that I guess!

I might add in the last 2 years in PM service I have discussed this privately with other members, it seems many want what I describe here!

Hoping for the best after Update 2.0.0 + DCS EDGE + NTR! :thumbup:

This is what I want out of this sim and I am prepared to spend................ http://i1171.photobucket.com/albums/r543/picturebucket7/Mixed%20Pics/MyMoney_zpsea80651e.gif :imho:

Some Red Flag exercises would be very cool, especially with the MiG-21 + Mirage 2000 + Nevada Terrain and the F/A-18!

I can only agree, we need to develop this area of the sim. Trouble is, when the standards are so high, it takes time for stuff like that to come to fruition.

The sentiments here get my backing. All except the implication that other sims are better because they've got more facilities. They've all got far too long in the tooth to be considered any longer. Unless someone radically uptaes Falcon 4.0, it will just fall by the wayside.

There is a huge gaping hole in DCS World in that it needs far more theatres, but once Edge is finally released, I expect we'll see a rash of new maps following in it's wake.

New aircraft will continue to join the stable, and I don't see any other simulation coming within a hundred miles of the fidelity, and immersion of DCS. Something as in depth as this takes time, that's just the inevitable truth of the matter.

I agree too. I just beg more clickable mordern combat jets and a middle-east desert theatre.

Sure sounds exciting............. I guess we just have to wait and see!

But then again if I dont see any change soon like many others here I see, I will disappear, knowing that "Air Combat Sims" have just died away! Sadly!

Cheers,
