Can't place units on the map in the mission edior, plus 2 other issues

If I select an aerial unit for example, and place it somewhere on the map, it simply doesn't appear. Information about the unit is there, where a window pops up on the right side of the screen where you can select the type of that unit, set up waypoints etc., but you can only see the information while not being able to change the settings.

When trying to exit the ME (after I found out I can't do anything with this bug) it would ask me whether I want to save and exit, exit without saving or cancel. No matter what I select, I'm stuck in the ME and it wont let me exit.

1. Placed units don't appear.

2. The information window does appear, but I can't change anything.

3. Stuck in the Me and can't leave, unless I close DCS via the Task Manager.

Log file is attached.

Looking at your log you have a severe issue with the missioneditor directory and the lua files within, these errors look to be directly linked to your problems.

I did a quick test on my system and can not replicate your issues, it works as advertised.

I would suggest you:

  1. Rename and Backup your "D:\ssd cache\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha" folder and run DCS to recreate to see if it solves your issue, if resolved then recover controls, logbook, etc bit by bit from the backup of your originals.
  2. Disable any antivirus or at least exclude DCS from any of the realtime scanning utils so that it can't interfere with updates.
  3. Remove any 3rd party Mods, can use command line "DCS_Updater.exe cleanup" to scan and check.
  4. Run the classic "DCS_Updater.exe repair" to check for other corruption.
  5. Re-try running DCS in mission editor and repost Logs if you think things have changed but still don't work ok.

The only mod I'm using is the takeoff-from-ground mod.

Can confirm that with the "Takeoff-from-Ground" mod installed on my DCS.openbeta does cause the exact same issues you are describing, it would appear it is no longer compatible and needs to be removed.

Cheers, Ian.

Well, that's a hurtful smack in the face of mission designers :(

Hi All,

DCS is evolving and Mods break during this evolutionary process. It does not mean that this is a smack in the face for mission designers, far from it, many additions benefit us greatly. I have had this mod since its inception back in the 1.5 days, I made my own version of it.

I have looked at getting this to work in the latest OB version and it does..... so here is a link to a JSGME ready updated version of the mod:

Fully tested and working in OB.
