QuiGon Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 (edited) Two issues with the TCS that came up recently and appear to be incorrectly simulated: 1) AUTO and AUTO SRCH modes are not working as intended. See comments #37 to #41 in this thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=4081620#post4081620 2) TCS indication on HUD is missing in mode RDR SLAVED (important when radar looses lock, but TCS stays locked): https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=252824 Edited October 28, 2019 by IronMike Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

QuiGon Posted October 23, 2019 Author Posted October 23, 2019 Issue #1 is actually not an issue. At least not of the DCS Tomcat. Apparently this is how it actually worked in the real Tomcat: According to the NATOPS we have, in the absence of STT it requires half-action HCU to move the TCS LoS and initiate so-called semi-automatic acquisition (in AUTO or AUTO SRCH). The manual mode has a much smaller area that it searches for contrast lock, the NATOPS recommends to use that for ground targets that may be in close proximity to other contrasty items. The AUTO mode searches a much larger area of the screen (70% of height and width, i.e. 50% of total raster area), and AUTO SRCH adds a bit of a search pattern to that to increase the effective area that it can find objects. That said, I don't think we support locking onto ground items with TCS in DCS F-14 yet, as well as a few more missing features like ability to be knocked out of alignment, requiring a boresighting process onto a co-operating radar locked target (wingman) and the trim knobs. Another reason for the semi-automatic nature (i.e. requiring half-action) is so that the RIO can slew the TCS onto the desired area of interest using the HCU first, and not just always lock onto things dead ahead. Issue #2 remains though. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Karon Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 About issue #2; it sounds odd to me, it did work some 3-4 weeks ago when I was collecting stuff for a TTP: I did noticed though that A/A mode, SLAVE to RDR mode must be both set before locking with the TCS, otherwise the cue on the HUD is not shown. QuiGon Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 About issue #2; it sounds odd to me, it did work some 3-4 weeks ago when I was collecting stuff for a TTP: Yeah, I'm also pretty sure I have seen it working untill some weeks ago, so something has changed there, because it's not working anymore now  Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
QuiGon Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 (edited) Issue #2 should be fixed in the next update: The next patch also includes a small fix, the TCS LoS was accidentally not displayed on the HUD in the TCS slave mode. As stated above, issue #1 is actually not an issue, as it actually worked like that in the real Tomcat, so with that, all the issues reported in this thread have been addressed then. Thanks HB! :) Edited October 28, 2019 by QuiGon Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
