F14 left and right side horizontal panels angels? (SimPit build)

Ok so this has been driving me crazy, I have tried and tired to work it out but I’m just too much of a moron to figure it out, I’ve checked reference material even download the head blur cockpit scan thing and I still can’t find it, it may be the cad software I was using or my lack of knowledge of cad either way, if in doubt ask smart people.

Please please please can someone please put me out of my misery what is the angle of the left and right side panels, it’s driving me insane, I’m about to start wiring them up and at the moment there at the wrong angle, I’ve managed to get the 2 upright consoles pretty perfect but the left and right side panels just aren’t.

Please help me dcs forums. Your my only hope

Long ago I remember reading it was 12 degrees. But I have not been able to find the source I read this from so take it with a grain of salt. Much info is in the referenced thread above, though not all. Look at post 202 for some pics and measurements of throttle quadrant. As far as the height of the Flaps handle, it is a little complex in that it comes up out of the base for ~0.5 - 0.75 in and bends outward and then sweeps rearward. The over all length of lever sticking out above the base is ~3 in. The highest point at the end of the lever is ~2 in. I took the flap handle itself off and put it somewhere, but don't remember where. If I come across it I will add it later, sorry.

Remember, the standard width of a single console panel is 5.75 inches and build for you pit from there. Actual panels I have on hand are roughly:

KY 28 panel 5.75 X 1.5 in

Lighting panel 5.75 X 7.5 in

TACAN 5.75 X 3 in

IFF 5.75 X 5.5 in

For the instrument panel:

Airspeed/Mach indicator ~ 3.25 in square, so Altimeter and other large gauges are similarly sized

TIT gauge, and by inference the other Engine gauges should be, 5.875 X 1.5 in

Fuel gauge 6 X 4 in

VHF/UHF repeater display is 3.5 X 1.25 in

Exact numbers are going to be hard to find: using the NATOPS images, as they are drawing in my understanding and not exactly to scale, are useful as a reference and starting point.

I took a trip to California to sit inside and take measurements of the Santa Rosa Tomcat and I thought writing them down would hold up the line so I video taped instead. Got home and my camera had lost all the data, talk about a doh! moment.

ps You are best served using the above thread than making a new thread for every question. Just my opinion.

Yea I had thought that, the thread is a very long thread and I didn’t want to trouble anyone with my little question. It is also the thread that I used for all my reference material, I downloaded everything I could find and also pored over each one to see what it was. As per usual, there was many contradictions. So I figured one or 2 questions in a new post wouldn’t hurt. Aside from the questions I have about the flap lever I don’t think I’ll be making too many new threads for measurements :)

The good news is that I cracked it.

Well I didn’t a friend of mine did. He’s pretty good at doing the CAD so I hit him up about it.

I sent him heat blurs 3D cockpit and he was able to make some measurements for me.

The best part is that after making the modifications to the side panels everything else lined up. The panel pictures that I had got from the thread linked above, the lines on the panel layouts all lined up and everything looks perfect, so happy, because the angle i had them at was about 12-14 degrees and this is all wrong.

According to the heatblur laser scanned 3D cockpit

The side panels are at an angle of 24 degrees From horizontal

They also slope down from front to rear at an angle of 7 degrees from horizontal

The upright consoles are at an angle of 30 degrees from vertical

Again these measurements were taken from the 3D model heatblur made and that we sit in in the game

Everything seems to fit in perfectly now.

However in future I will take your advice and just post in the thread that is linked above :)

Thank you guys so much for your time on this
