EasyEB Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 (edited) So I've found some weird behavior of the GBU-54. If you drop it above 10000 feet without laser on it will guide just fine with GPS/INS. If you drop it above 10000 feet and turn the laser on immediately it will pitch up and lose all tracking (both GPS/INS and Laser) and glide away until it finally hits the ground. If you drop it above 10000 feet and turn the laser on a couple of seconds before impact (when the GBU-54 is well below 10000 feet) it will not guide in on the laser. If you drop it below 10000 feet it will follow the laser just fine. Anyone else seeing the same? Edit: After some more testing I have seen the GBU-54 pitch up and lose guidance in some instances even below 10000 feet. Edited October 7, 2020 by EasyEB
flavnet Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 Hello! The same behavior you described for the GBU-54 happened to me!!! So much so that I thought the bomb only worked as JDAM and not as LGB. In fact, I usually release above 20,000 ft. I tried using the GBU-54 several times ... frustrating!!!! The bomb hit stationary targets perfectly (JDAM - without using the laser). But if I tried to hit moving targets (TPOD in point) with the laser, the bomb would fall like dumb. I posted a thread complaining about the problem, but it has been put aside. I hope that the developers notice that's problem or they tell us how the bomb should be used in the right way.
