LIONPRIDE
. My issue sounds similar to some of you folks. I Dl'd the NVidia 180.48 drivers about 2-weeks ago. I reverted back to 178.24 version last night and things ran smooth as silk for hours. . My system: E6600 - Core 2 Duo (2) GeForce 9600-GT (512) in SLi 4GIG - Kingston RAM MSI Mainboard Saitek-X45 . - - - - - - - - TO FLY IS HEAVEN. Kuky
ATI Tool showed no errors (altough it did test only 1 card). I disabled Crossfire and flew for some 20min. The game felt bit more responsive while changin from menu screen to loading and starting 3D. Also I noticed one more thing... with Crossfire enabled I can hear engine sound even while mission is still loading... and when mission started and is paused engine sound is still there. After I disabled Crossfire this sound is no more there... will leave Crossfire disabled from now on for more testing... No longer active in DCS... RedTiger
FWIW, I get crashes too from time to time. Very similar to what happens in LOMAC. No freeze, just a "DCS has encountered and error and must shutdown" type of thing. The UI stays running. Kuky
I don't get any error message and games doesn't CTD. The whole machine just freezes. I was buzy the whole day today and probably will be again tomorrow and next week or so so I can't fly too much and test. Thanks all for replies and sugestions. No longer active in DCS... Feuerfalke
Don't waste your time reverting to XP. With the ATI you will have the same problems. I learned the hard way, too. Only thing that fixed it for me was reverting back to my nVidia 8800GTS. I guess it's the combination of 2 flaws in the ATI drivers. 1. Some routines from older DX- and OpenGL-Version were dropped. There was a quick patch for FalconAF to provide a workaround over some issues caused by that. Looking at the basis of the BS-Engine, I guess this is the cause of several minor graphics bugs. (e.g. with enabled AF and FSAA your PC will get slower and slower if you watch flares and their smoke. Once the Smoke dissappears it immediately goes back to normal FPS.) 2. The lack of automatic FAN-control. This is really a big issue as the fan won't speed up, no matter how hot the card is getting. I STRONGLY recommend to use the overclocking routine. From within the CCC check Overdrive and click the key to enable overclocking. Now don't change the frequencies(!), but look to the lower end of the panel. Select manual fan-speed and set it to 35-50%. IIRC it is fixed to 16% normally, which is way too slow for this heater. Hope that will solve it. Apparently the MemoryPageFaults, which are rather normal, increase to a critical state when the cards get's hotter. In the ATI-Forums, there are also many reports of people who underclocked the cards in order to play safe with the standard-cooler. Kuky
Well, I have Crossfire disabled now and flying online like this for about 1.5 hour and BS did not crash or lockup on me... so far so god... hope it keeps up like this... I think Crossfire/SLI setups are really not worth it, there are very easily issues with them and I personally don't recomend them any more. I know I'm not getting it again... single GPU for me from now on... Edited December 16, 2008 by Kuky No longer active in DCS...
Feuerfalke
Well, I have Crossfire disabled now and flying online like this for about 1.5 hour and BS did not crash or lockup on me... so far so god... hope it keeps up like this... I think Crossfire/SLI setups are really not worth it, there are very easily issues with them and I personally don't recomend them any more. I know I'm not getting it again... single GPU for me from now on... That's true. Especially for a sim like BS as they don't benefit from the graphics power anyway, not daring to mention mutliple CPU or GPU support, or support of more than 2 Gig of RAM. But even if it would 2 Graphics cards means 2 times the costs, 2 times the power needed, but 1.5 times the performance - if fully supported by drivers and software that is... :( Gigabyte GA-Z87-UD3H | i7 4470k @ 4.5 GHz | 16 GB DDR3 @ 2.133 Ghz | GTX 1080 | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | Creative X-Fi Ti | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win10 64 HP | X-Keys Pro 20 & Pro 54 | 2x TM MFD
Brute
Kuky, please use this tool http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ and do some tests with it. For me it sounds like your vidcard is not okay anymore. +1 I have two X1900XT in crossfire and the second card has a faulty (fried from overheating) video memory. Whenever I enable crossfire and run memory intensive games or high AA (x14) levels I get a total system freeze. And that's what I've been experiencing with BS too. Revolt26
I found that my Video card was geting a bit warm causing the intermittent crashes. I installed riva tuner and adjusted my gpu fan to 100% .Also at the same time the set affinity retro has seemed to helped as well. I just played through 6 missions and Dcs didnt crash once...*falls on floor*
