Winney Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Hi all, Finally I just got my hands on the disc version of Black Shark:megalol: I just finished installing it and wanted to give it a spin. I get into the menu, yet, when I want to do a training mission or just instant action... Bang, it kicks me out and I'm staring at my desktop ??!?!? I see DCS.exe is still running in taskmanager. When I go to terminate it, BS' menu pops up again??? I can't fly:cry: Please anyone help me out :helpsmilie: Tnx in advance Winney System specs: Windows Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 Intel Core2Duo 8500 Nvidia GTX285 (drivers 182.50)
EtherealN Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Actually, it's not a case of "dcs.exe still running". The menu system and the actual simulation are two different executables, launcher.exe and dcs.exe respectively. So what happens is that launcher.exe calls dcs.exe to start the mission, something goes wrong, and when you then terminates dcs.exe launcher.exe takes that as it's cue to return (since on mission finish the dcs.exe will terminate and you go back to the launcher). As for what is actualy causing this to not work I don't quite know. Getting out to the desktop is normal, however, though usually it'll only be visible for a couple of seconds or so before dcs.exe kicks in. Though if you're really fast I guess you might be able to get it killed manually faster than it manages to load, but I doubt that. You could however doublecheck that it's not just taking a long time to load - give it a couple of minutes, if you haven't already done that. Which directory and folder did you install it to? There might be a defensive system on your OS that doesn't want an application to launch another application, or windows itself not liking something that you're doing. You could disconnect the computer temporarily from the net for a bit (for safety reasons) and see if it works correctly if you disable all antivirus, software firewalls and so on in windows. If it works when you do that, we might have a bead on what's causing this. Winney Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 Hi EtherealN Tnx for the quick response! With the desktop thing being normal I gave the thing some more time like you somewhat proposed, and yea it works  I wasn't familiar with the fact that BS is '2' exe files, one for the menu, one for the game. When I got into desktop I panicked. Waited for a while and still no dice. Opening taskmanager, I see dcs.exe, yet little memory use and hardly any cpu usage. Stared at it for a while, without any changes. I thought it hung up?! I lowered the eye-candy and res. for a shorter loadtime and YEA it works  I 'slowly' pimped the eye-candy again and some more patience... still good :joystick: LOL, I think I was just só excited to finally have it and then falling to desktop freaked me out :music_whistling: So I guess it's falls alarm. Thanks anyway, and sry for this freaked out post. Winney PS: Game and all is installed in default directories.
EtherealN Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 No worries man, happy to hear it works now and don't hesitate to ask if your run into any other issues. Like they say: if you ask a question you may seem stupid, but if you keep quiet you might remain stupid. Or something like that. joey45 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 when that happend to me i was like "NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo" then "YYYYYEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH" happy flying. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
