So, here we go.

My system:

Mainboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe, X58

Processor: Intel Core i7 920 4x2.67GHz So1366 BOX

RAM: OCZ 6GB Low-Voltage Plat. PC3-12800U DDR3-1600 CL7

Graphic: Gainward GeForce GTX 295 2x896MB PCIe 2.0

I have installed Win7 64bit several times now.

1st:

Installed Win7 and installed the latest drivers. Downloaded from the producers homepages.

Installed my standard programms:

- Firefox

- Filezilla

- Notepad++

- Audiograbber

- VLC Player

- Audacity

- cCleaner

- Defragger

- Paint.NET

- IcoFX

- CDburnerXP

- Office 2007

I installed all Win-updates. Also Windows Live and the ServicePacks for Office 2007.

Then I installed the english BS (with DX9) and updated it with the 1.0.1c patch.

I installed Modman and my standard mods:

- Sharkpit

- BattlefieldFX

- LoTerrain

- Cloudbugfix

I started BS and have done my settings in the options.

I started a mission and have randomly one-second-freezes every 5-20 seconds.

Also a one-second-freeze the first time a activate the Shkval,

the first time I make a rangemeasuriung,

the first time I drop a flare,

the first time I shoot etc.

Very bad is if I will be hit. It's a flip-book!

2nd try:

I installed Win7 without drivers. Some devices wasn't known so I insert the original CD of the device and installed the driver by using the device manager.

I installed the old graphic driver from CD. This I also used in Vista 64 without problems.

I don't installed the Win-updates and NO other programms.

I installed the german (wrongly) BS version without DX9. And updated it with the english 1.0.1c Patch. Then I realized I installed the german BS version...

Anyway I continued. I installed Modman and all my mods.

I installed the DirectX-update:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=de&FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3

... and started BS. I have done my settings in the options and started a mission.

-> NO PROBLEMS anymore!

3rd try:

Because I installed the wrong version I installed Win7 again.

I don't installed any driver. Only the CD driver like before.

I installed my standard programms and all Win-updates.

I installed the english BS version and updated it with the english 1.0.1c.

I installed modman and all my mods.

I started BS and have a other problem:

The buttons in the menu won't be activated (orange) if I move the mouse.

Also the controler-menu won't work correctly. it takes up to 30 seconds till the programm registrates my entries.

I started a mission and I have the one-second-freezes again!

3 1/2 try:

I receaved a windows-update for the GTX295. I tried to install it but it failed.

I tried BS again. The problem with the button activation etc was gone. (new driver wasn't installed).

I started a mission, the one-second-freezes are still there.

3 2/3 try:

I downloaded the latest graphic-driver again from the gainward-page.

I installed it and tried BS again.

Still the one-second-freezes.

Maybe the Windows-Updates or one of my standard-programs are guilty.

Maybe Windows Live?

Maybe the installation of the english patch over the german version was working.

I want to try it but I need keys!

Dragon, you made quite a few nice observations.

The difference from #2 to #1 and #3 is odd.

What comes to mind is;

- Could it be an SLI issue? Disable all SLI.

- Mods - must keep them out of the troubleshooting - be sure to test without mods. Always :)

- Overclocking? Try not to do that when troubleshooting.

It may affect memory/pci bus timings.

Comment about attempt #3 - I think the buttons not working is due to drivers, OpenGL interface "bugs" because of the drivers.

There's a newer BETA 195.xx out now - I'm using those on a single GTX 295 with no problems here right now.

Do you speak enough English to chat with me over Teamspeak you think? I could try to guide you through a couple of more ideas here. :)

Note: cCleaner - bad bad bad ... it may ruin some important settings in your Windows. Do not use cCleaner ever - do not trust a Windows installation where it has been used.

There is *no* reason to use that piece of software on a *new* OS installation - only *maybe* when the OS is *already broken*

Problem: You cannot undo the potential damage it does without reinstalling your Windows and all your original programs.

Also, do not install any mods for BS, test on clean install of OS, driver and BS... leave out rest of software you don't need... test and if it still does it you should probably be looking for some hardware issues... maybe some wrong settings, really don't know, but if you say it does it only the first time you fire or turn on shkval, or drop a flare etc.. that's gotta be files loading from HDD giving pauses

Hi Panzertard,

The GTX295 have two GPUs. So it is SLI inside. I don't know how to deactivate it.

I have not overclocked the processoer.

I used ccleaner every time I installed it.

It have found several problems in the regestry....

I reinstall Win7 again.

I will install the latest driver of all devices.

I will install all Standard-Programms (without ccleaner) and all Win-updates.

Should I install BS with or without DirectX9?

What's with the DX-update?

Posted (edited)

Dragon, did cCleaner find problems in the registry on a clean install?

If you cannot trust a clean install I am unsure what you want to achieve through reinstallations... (Which, imo, is an incrimination of the cCleaner application, not Win7. Win7 works, we have a lot of testimony on that. But what we have here appears to be a Win7 that is installed, gets cCleaner installed on it, cCleaner detects "issues" on the clean system and does whatever, and then issues appear...)

Have you installed ASUS motherboards drivers?

Also, in second, third,etc try why are you instaling drivers from CD? are those for windows 7? if not,then don't do it, just go to the vendor website and download drivers for win7 64 bit.

GPU modes;

Sorry, I should have said "Multi GPU" mode - I was a bit lazy when I refferd to SLI.

I was thinking about disabling this as part of a test;

cCleaner

cCleaner "guesses" which part of your registry/files/settings that are correct. It can only get as perfect the programmer is - or the operator who presses "yes/no".

On a healthy new system - there is no reason to assume its broken, even if a "Piece of software" tells you it is. On what criteria did it make it's assumptions? Some good known facts, some guesswork.

You can only hurt a working OS if you use that on a *new* OS installation.

DirectX 9.0c update;

Yes, I've used that myself to enable some games to detect DX9 properly on my own systems. I doubt thats the problem - keep using it. :)

(It should be the same as the one that has been delivered with your DCS:BS installation)

I installed Win7 again.

The installation of the chipset-driver was very fast.... maybe there is something wrong. Also some devices were not found after this driver installation.

- RAID controller

- unknown device

Now I have insert the CD of the Mainboard again. I can't execute the setup. It says it is not the wrigt OS. But there is a folder named "Win7" and "Vista 64".

This is the driver: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=vXixf82co6Q5v0BZ&templete=2

I tried to install the driver of the both devices by using the device manager.

Searching on the CD. It worked and the devices were found.

After that I installed the latest Gainward-driver:

http://www.gainward.com/main/download.php?vgapro=104

Now I'm installing all the Win-updates.

After this I will try BS.

No chance... same problem! :no_sad:

Only Win7 with the latest driver (isue by installing chipset) and all updates.

No ccleaner, no other programms, no mods...

Vista here I come again!

Short question: Do you have the same Vista-Type (32/64bit) as Win7?

If yes, simply use your old drivers. There is basically no difference between the core-files of both systems, so drivers are 99% interchangeable, unless they check for the OS-type.

So if your computer worked with Vista and does not work with Win7, it's most likely a driver issue with the newer drivers.

Are you sure the drivers in the Asus CD are the most updated versions? why don't you just download asus drivers one by one (specially chipset and SATA) and install these.

I'm not sure. But this driver was working for Vista 64.

Please can you give me a downloadlink for the latest driver?

I tried the driver from ASUS but this installation was to fast. I think that this is the problem. There is something wrong with.

It is a ASUS P6T Deluxe (not V2) with a i7 920.

Thats almost as the same setup I used - however, I used Windows Update + Intel Chipset to update my boards.

Here the link to the page for the Intel Win7 x64 downloads;

Hm, okai - select Windows 7 x64 as operating system and it will list the installer.

Wich driver? I'm talking about more than one driver (chipset, audio, lan and SATA). Install those I told you.

If you're unsure if the driver is installing ok or no, just go to device manager and check the driver. Also, install them with right mouse button as an administrator. The time it takes to install is not a good way to know if it's installed or not.

Hm, then there's 2 options - it wasnt installed because;

1. It wasnt installed / something is wrong - or you already have "latest drivers" because of Windows Update.

2. It was installed - but you could verify or see the details of that for some reason.

BTW - I havent installed any RAID drivers either, beause I dont use the chipset-raid controller for now.

How far are you in the process this time?

DCS:BS 1.0 clean installed (German version this time?)

Upgrade with German patch then. :)

Or are you testing another version this time?

And let's keep in mind - the "Minor issues" that have been annoying some of you with a Localized OS (German, Dutch, Russian, Norwegian etc).

Maybe we need to test doing some localization -> English/US/UK.

God sake, what about SATA driver? do it lol, it is for the hard drive controller...it could probably be what is causing stutters.

Distiler + Dragon should get the "Intel® ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller" as part of his "Device Manager->Storage Controllers" if the drivers were installed with Windows Update / INtel Chipset installation utility.

Driver should be 8.6.2.1012 or higher.

Dragon: Run a DXdiag and save the report, if you dont want it attached here in the public - PM it to me.

I'll compare it with a similar system here.

If the installer is finished in half a second but without an error-message it usually means the installed drivers are still used, because they were either newer or because the corresponding hardware has not been found.

If there was an error reported, you'd be noticed - even if the installation was aborted or faulty for some reason.

Ah, actually a good reminder - if you install too many things in one go, you might have to reboot before you can continue installing more drivers. Many "installers" detect a "reboot is pending" and may refuse to do their work until you obey the pending reboot request. :)
