V1.0.0 probs/V1.0.1 doesn't run - Win 7 x64

Hi,

My system specs:

* Intel Core2 Duo E6700 (stock)

* 4Gb DDR2 800MHz (stock)

* Intel i975X Chipset

* 1Gb Asus GeForce 7950GX2 (stock)

* Win 7 x64 Pro

* DCS:BS Russian Retail DVD

Let me start with Version 1.0.0.

The UI flickers whenever the screen needs to update. When I click a button, there is a delay of up to a minute before it refreshes. Moving the mouse can force an update and I can see what is going on. It can be slow to react to a mouse click.

That affects both full-screen and windowed mode.

Once in the sim it is very slow, and stutters quite badly. It is a very poor experience compared to Windows XP.

Win 7 FPS are ~25 at best, dropping frequently to 10.

Win XP FPS are up at 60 FPS, and is smooth even when maxed out (but does slow slightly when things get heavy but is still very good).

Windowed/full-screen doesn't affect this.

Version 1.0.1:

Simpy put - I can't run it. The UI hangs with a blank window, but the audio is playing. Needless to say I can't do anything.

Looking around the forums, it seems DCS:BS has issues on Windows 7. Is there a fix in the works for this? It is really quite serious. I am currently re-installing XP purely to fly DCS:BS. :thumbup:

Best regards,

Tango.

I would suspect your drivers, if anything. Most people I know who switched to Win7 have had very good experiences with it, with the occasional driver issue.

Note that most drivers that work with Vista work perfectly with Win7, but you might run into cases where the drivers that Win7 itself installs (or asks to have installed) are in fact quite old. In those cases it might be worth trying a newer Vista driver.

If you attach a DxDiag file we can look closer into that.

Oh, and don't reinstall XP just for DCS. XP doesn't allow you to benefit from your second core. Better to see what is broken in your Win7 install and fix that so you can run it on a modern OS that is actually made to run on multicores. ;)

Hi,

The drivers I'm using are:

* Graphics - Vista 169.25 (I can't run newer drivers that include TDR)

* Sound - these were downloaded by Win 7 (SB Audigy 1 Platinum)

* Let me know what others I need to list

Best regards,

Tango.

Interesting...

I set App compatibility to "Disable visual themes" and "Run as Administrator" (UAC is disabled via Group Policy) - it now appears to be running...

Let me do a thorough test.

Wow...

Compatibility mode was screwing it (I'd set it when trying to get it to run previously). :(

I had set "Disable Desktop Compositing" as a test, which made no difference last time, but I unticked it, and enabled "Run as Administrator" - she is as fluid as I've never seen it before. Even the smoke from flares doesn't drag it down.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Now to go get some flying done!

The UI flickers a bit, but I can live with that. Nice to be back in the air! :D

Best regards,

Tango.

Motherboard drivers are crucial (above all: chipset, SATA).

From first post my first impressions were, driver issues....BUT.

Setting "Run as administrator" seems to have helped significantly in your case.

Which doesnt make sense really, running as admin means you have rights to OS protected files and any other files which have User governed priviledges, which should not be used by BS in any instance. Can you do a little more testing to establish whether or not setting "Run as admin" is the result of your performance increase.

Just curious,

Thanks

What is the full install path for DCS? if it is C:\Programs... change it to something else C:\Games\...

I would alsosuggest you try to run a W7 graphics driver rather than the Vista one...
