Cedaway Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 (edited) I was looking after a solution about an issue I have with my HD radeon 5870 (flickering) (related to this thread) and I've found this thread where a dev reply by email to a simmer this: "In sum, I don't recommend AMD/ATI graphics solutions for titles build on old graphics engines like ours. Although we have tweaked and improved our graphics engine greatly to meet most of modern standards, as I told in the beginning, the changes necessary for correct work with the latest graphics drivers fr om AMD/ATI are too big." So my question is : Does the new terrain / graphic engine will correct the issues / glitches or is it still based on the 'old-but-amped' engine? I post this here because I don't know where else since it's a real wish to be able to run DCS sims on my computer without spend money for a new GPU (Nvidia this time ;-) ). Thanks for reading and replying. Edited March 16, 2012 by Cedaway DCS Wish: Turbulences affecting surrounding aircraft... Demongornot Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Nice question, i planed to buy two MSI HD R7970 Lightning if i can, with Ivy Bridge configuration and i wonder know if for DCS an HD 7970 (OC or not) can with the new graphic engine be nice, and better than Nvidia. And question me too, do EDGE will take multi GPU solution like Crossfire and MSI ? And what will happen to Georgia ? new map for the new graphic engine ? cichlidfan Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 It has been stated somewhere by ED or a Mod that there is no intention to rework the current map with EDGE. So EDGE is not going to solve any graphics engine issues unless you only fly in Nevada. Cedaway Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) So if I understand well, for the same game, we'll have 2 graphic engines? E.g: if I want to fly above Caucasus, it will switch to the old gfx engine and if I want to fly above Nevada => EDGE. So it's not only a new gfx engine if devs have to rework all. I understand it could be a huge amount of time to re-draw, re-map the current map. But my basis question was: Will EDGE correct issues with ATI's GPU? I believe devs will polish up their product before the release. And it's not a bad idea to make it Dx11, for the improvement it brings in term of multi-threaded handelings. The Dx11 GPU market is now mature and the community may be prepared and equipped. It could be interesting to do a poll to number the percentage of people having a Dx11 GPU vs Dx10 or 9. Edit: and yes, I've seen the pictures in the announcements. It looks beautiful. Now, patience. The countdown has not yes started for a release. To the devs => you rocks, continue that way and enhance our perception/immersion in virtual flying. (And if you can keep us informed, it's a plus ) Edited March 20, 2012 by Cedaway DCS Wish: Turbulences affecting surrounding aircraft... sobek Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 But my basis question was: Will EDGE correct issues with ATI's GPU? It's rather a hardware problem than a software problem. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
