It's all in the mission design. :)

Mission design? So you think the mission tries to deactivate 150am? Well, it doesn't always work. And if you pick a hot start A10 the freq always works.

Additionally, why would a mission designer try to deactivate certain freqs?

Please provide a track.

Have you tried the Tanker training mission I provided in post#5? This mission has been set up fresh from 1.2.7. If the mission you have been using has just been saved in 1.2.7, the tanker will be broken. Check my mission and let us know.

I didnt try the mission. I also don't need to. It works in SP. And it works on most MP servers, too. However, it (almost) reliably does NOT work on the VA server. I have provided a track on page 1. Anyway, here it is again:

Download client track

I may create another track and post it too.

Yes, as I said in post #8 on page 1, the tanker in that track/mission is broken. It's been saved from a previous version.

So anyways, I've tried several missions, original, my own missions, Maple Flag Missions and Dragons missions and I get different responses

All original mission give me a constant tone between 150 and 153Mhz AM

All my own mission are the same

Some of Maple Flag missions and some of Dragons pack do this and some don't, it seems quite random and all are using exactly the same radio settings.

These settings in all missions have been tried both as a cold start and as hot start on ramp, runway and in the air.

I never had any issues with this prior to 1.2.7.

I have 227 hours in the A-10C so I know the radio settings are correct

Oh! I must have missed that. Okay, i made a new perfect track. 150 am did work, but after i contacted atc it stopped working. It is shown beautifully in a 2 minutes track.

PS: Yes i know the link didnt change. I have replaced the old track.

I've had a look at the mission in the track, and the tanker is the same as the previous track. This mission has been saved from a previous version of DCS and everytime you try to use the tanker in this mission/server it will not work correctly.

Until someone updates the mission, and places a new tanker there.

So you think the tanker is blocking 150 am? Because once i manage to get 150am working, aerial refueling works just fine. I have tested it in A-10C (if you dont contact atc the freq works) and F-15C. Well in that case, someone should yell at VA to make them update their mission.

Mmm, this is what I think I saw on VA tonight :

I took off and went to the tanker at 151MHz and 02x. I contacted him and tried to catch up but he accelerated away from me after a while. So I decided to head for the other tanker, 150 and 01X.

Well, when I tuned the radio for 150 I got a continuous tone. I was able to change the freq thru the radio-menu. As soon as I selected the tanker there the radio switched to 150 by itself.

At least that's what I think I saw.

Don't know if that i normal behaviour.

Automatic change of freqs is part of easy mode communications. It is the only way aircrafts from FC3 can communicate. I don't use it in A-10C but it may be forced on in the mission.

How did you even catch up on the second tanker? It flies way too fast for an A-10.

On a flight today I had the tone again, but now tried to switch the radio from MAN to AM, the tone stopped and I was able to contact tanker....

switching to AM selects the guard channel. That means, your freq selectors are ignored and the radio tunes in on guard channel. So, you should not be able to contact anything except downed pilots with the switch to AM.

The fact that it worked supports the assumption of easy comms being forced on.

Here's my experience flying on the VA server:

for air refueling with the A-10 tanker - Texaco i think - dial in 140 Mhz.

Seems to be the "10 Mhz-bug" from the former version 1.2.6 in this mission...

So i tested that once again. easy comms is forced on in that mission. Select any freq and try to contact the tanker. The freq selectors on the radio jump to 150 am. If the freq was blocked by the constant tone, that block is gone and the freq works again. Dont mess with freqs at all, just contact whatever you want to contact and the radio will jump to the needed frequency. Seems like easy comms in that mission has bug that can cause frequencies to get blocked. If you get your radio to jump to the freq, the bug disappears.

Good find !

About the tanker: pure luck I guess. He must have turned and flown in my direction.
