Blackbeagle Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Newbie here. I am trying my hardest to figure out this game. One of many questions I have is the display on my hud when i press 8. It looks like a stickman doing jumping jacks. What mode is this and what purpose does it serve? My 2nd question is the mode when I press 5. It has a very thick circle. I believe that its supposed to be a helmet targeting retical. But how would one use It? Do you need head tracking device? Thanks
Frostie Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Pressing 8 brings up the fixed reticle. This is used when you've sustained damage and your hud is no longer working. For example you're in a head on merge with a bandit and get damaged, you're hud is no longer displaying so switch 8 to bring up the fixed reticle and also press 6 for Fi0 seeker mode and use the pylon display to select R-73, the X on the reticle is now your seeker view put it on the bandit, listen for tone and launch. Pressing 5 brings up the HMS it follows your head movements which is either by TIR or numerical pad on the keyboard which can be mapped to a hat stick. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. winchesterdelta1 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Wished i knew that a year ago :) Now i know why they still keep shooting me down when they are heavely damaged. Thanks Frostie. Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.
Blackbeagle Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Thank you. I never understood what it meant. For a while, I thought it was used for landing purposes. A follow up question: Targeting modes: 1. Pressing 3 I believe engages the vertical scan mode (two lines about a 1/2" apart). So how do I target the enemy once in this mode? 2. I know by pressing 4 there's a circle in the screen. You put the target inside the circle and press enter, then wait to get close enough. Thanks again.
PureEvil Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) RTFM, it's all there, take your time, it's a sim after all. P.S. often it is also a faster and better explained way to get many answers. srky Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 1. by holding the lock button pressed while the target is between lines. 2. this is boresight mode. It gives you slightly more range over vertical scan mode (3). Put the target in cirlcle and hold the lock button until it locks. Oh, and you can move the circle using TDC slew commands.
