Kenta Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Hey gents. I use the "trim wheel" on the throttle as an analog zoom in most aircrafts I fly in DCS. I've noticed that the sliders potentiometer started acting up a bit. When the values of the slider were more than 512. The sliders input started to "bounce" +-1 even when I didn't move it. This wouldn't really bother me that much, but when I'm in the virtual pit, I can see the "pumping" occurring because of this problem and it's hard to ignore. So I decided to contact TM support. They've sent me the replacement potentiometer but of course I have to exchange it myself. Another thing I've noticed after opening up the throttle. The potentimeter isn't really solid in place. It moves a bit with the slider. Don't know if this is normal, does anyone know? Anyways, here are two pictures of the insides of the throttle. The leftmost switch on the first picture is what I have to plug out. But It's molded in some kind of plastic. What's the best way to get that off? Failure is the mother of all success.
69iAFMike Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) Could it be hot glue? Maybe attack it with isopropyl alcohol from a cotton swab, it should loosen on it's own, and gently peel away. Edited February 5, 2014 by 69iAF~Mike
Kenta Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Could it be hot glue? Maybe attack it with isopropyl alcohol from a cotton swab, it should loosen on it's own, and gently peel away. I've already used a scalpel to cut it off. I now have another problem. Don't know if I've done anything wrong. When The slider is centered. The reported value is below 512 or 50%. What could be wrong? :) Failure is the mother of all success.
69iAFMike Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Calibration, maybe? http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1084321&postcount=7: 1
Kenta Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 I tried doing the calibration. But it only asked me to calibrate my joystick and not my throttle. Failure is the mother of all success.
Kenta Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Ok, problem is now solved. Thanks Mike! Failure is the mother of all success.
RogueSqdn Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 The throttle tool never helped me, but I later discovered that the jittering in the friction slider is actually a firmware problem when the throttle's LEDs are active. If you disable the LEDs in TARGET, the jittering will stop cold. Unfortunately, TM have never seemed to issue a firmware update for this problem. cichlidfan Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Unfortunately, TM have never seemed to issue a firmware update for this problem. TM hasn't issued a firmware update in over two years. So I doubt there is one in the future. RogueSqdn Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I gave up on that as well. I also think the project in this forum is more likely to deliver an F/A-18 HOTAS than TM will. You'd think they'd sell a new throttle for the Hornet along with a stick handle that attaches to the Warthog base. Otherwise, we would have a current set of flight sim pedals from them as well. Especially since every Warthog owner needs a set of pedals (which they buy from someone else). This little piece of information should be mentioned somewhere e.g. Thrustmaster website... I was ready to start ripping my "new" (used) throttle apart, luckily I found this post. If I remember right even Ralfidude seemed to have this problem when I was watching one of his videos. Corbett1403 Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I still can't believe the TM are getting away with there product failing they should be fixing these issues and recalling all products back and fixing yet we are all paying top money and getting a product that fails and falls apart. They must get complaints and issues almost the time but not resolve the problem with manufacturing the products.
Socket7 Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 If you set the LED brightness to 100% or 0%, the pot will not jitter. "Doctor doctor, it hurts when I do this!" "Well stop doing that." :music_whistling: TM could fix it easily by not allowing you to dim the LED's at all anymore, so you can only have the choice of on or off. While I'm surprised their tech support department doesn't have this info in their standard script, I don't think it's worth re-designing an entire PCB, and doing a recall campaign of thousands of units weighing 11 to 14 pounds. FWIW, the issues I've had with my TM warthog and TM customer support, have all been much better than my experiences with the X52 / X52pro and MadCatz support. :joystick: Practice makes perfect.

PiedDroit Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Since I got many problem with LED brightness I just don't touch that anymore... I had my throttle disconnecting once per flight, sometimes more, this completely disappeared since I removed the LED brightness setting in my TARGET profile, go figure...
