Collaboration/Whiteboard software for mission briefing?

Hey,

 

Anyone got any good suggestions for a web based tool that will allow us to do an interactive brief?

 

Our group has a shared GoogleDrive and I've used 'Google Drawing' from the GoogleDocs suite of apps. It's Ok but has limitations. For example, for our last session I pasted the mission map on a blank canvas and then doodled stuff on it. Problem is it's not really designed for that kind of thing and it's sometimes a bit tricky to draw random shapes/scribbles etc.. Ideally I'd want something with 'layers' where you can lock various ones (i.e background map), wipe them out or simply turn them on showing previous markup etc.. There must be something out there!

There are a few options available.

 

First, there is a web based mission planning utility by [FSF]Ian that allows the host of the mission to put it up online and clients can change their waypoints. I haven't tried this yet, but it sounds like it might be what you're looking for.

 

Next is GamePlan Live. This was designed more for FPS/RTS, but can work for flight sims. You can either import a jpeg the entire DCS theater or just the sector you want in order to keep the filesize down. You can't import the mission, but you can make annotations on the map, and it is also cross-platform between PC (Steam pending), iOS, and Android so tablet/smartphone users can keep their brief next to them while flying the mission. There are free and (inexpensive) payware versions of this software; AFAIK only the host needs the payware and that is if he is hosting a room of specific size.

 

Finally, there's Pre-Brief. It appears to still be in alpha, but it will allow rudimentary planning anywhere on the globe.

We're usual to stream a briefing in a custom webpage, but when needed something like a collaboration, we've used: https://webwhiteboard.com/

Free if you don't care to keep the data stored ( normally don't need to recall what we discuss in the briefing )
