PSV_Tango Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Hello guys, i think i need your help for some bugs i've with my current model. I've asking some of my friend about the specular map settings but i need more explanation. You can see in the attachments the picture "1" is my current reflection into DCS. It's very reflective a bit like a mirror and it's too much for me maybe my specular map is wrong? The picture "2" is the same plane same parameter but with a different angle of view, and from this point of view the reflection look just fine for me. I've read a lot on this forum about the creation of the specular map and i think it's correct but i've not found how to set that in max so, the picture "3" is my settings for the specular map in 3Ds max. It's the only way i've found to have reflection in the game. Correct me if my settings are wrong. And the last question is, i'm working on my bano light(nav light, collision light) but i don't want to have this kind of light halo around my light glass. It's possible to assign directly the bano material to my nav light glass and when the light is off my light have a kind of darker green and when the light is on it's more shiny like the actual DCS light? Regards Tango DCS utilizes a rather funky implementation of Specular. The engine uses the three different channels of the Specular map to adjust various components. R Channel = Specular Level G Channel = Gloss B Channel = Reflection value (fresnel) If you have a specular map applied to the object, the specular map controls all three components. If not-- they're controlled by the sliders in Max. Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
PSV_Tango Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 Hey Cobra847, thank you for your explanation, i'll try to play with RGB into photoshop. I've read the -Rudel- thread about spec mapping. So correct me if i'm wrong, i need to set my spec in max in Spec level = 100, for my texture Material Attributes i set "mirror" and i play with RGB into max, hope i've all understand :) Regards. The material attributes depends on what you want to achieve. You can use mirror, but for most objects I'd use default. The Specular Level slider in Max has no effect if you have a map in the slot. The slider just to the left of the texture DOES, but I'm not sure exactly what (might be a multiplier). Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
SkateZilla Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 if the surface doesnt need to be reflective, change it off mirror to default. other wise in photoshop, make the whole Blue Layer BLACK. Gloss and Specular can be midway between White/Black, and tuned to liking.
