I'm mostly flying the A-10A right now but I assume the same is true for the other FC3 planes. When I get significant but not fatal damage either from AA or SAMs it almost always sets one engine ablaze, and I cannot find any function to put it out. It's frustrating because in the A-10 the fire extinguisher levers are right in front of you but there is no way to click them (FC3 does not have clickable cockpits right?) and there is no associated keyboard function. What is almost worse is that I can fly forever with engine fires and nothing ever happens. It never gets better or worse. Plane never blows up, fire never goes out on it's own until you land, then it automagically extinguishes. Not a very realistic damage model if you ask me.

I did once jump to my wingman's plane and back, and the AI had extinguished the fire.

try turning the engine off. you may be unable to restart said engine, but that's a tradeoff I suppose.

I tried that early on. I figured it would interrupt the fuel flow, but it has no effect.

I know this will sound ridiculous, but I once had the bright idea to fly over the water and use a missile to make a splash and hipefully fly into it. Obviously it didnt work. I died a little.

It's quite possible that the difference is that other than the Su-25s the FC3 planes don't have advanced flight models.

Apart from the aerodynamics, a big chunk of the AFMs is modelling engine and control systems.

It'll be interesting to see if the F-15C gets fire extinguishing with its upcoming AFM.

Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes.

I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.
