MatzWarhog Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I just replaced my CPU (which by the way fixed ALL of my crash issues etc.) and I ran the A-10C specific registry .exe from the 'sticky' above, and it was successfully activated. However, FC3 will hang up and not activate. I see in the sticky thread that are are the specific files for the A-10C (which worked) but none for the FC3. I tried the "generic" link above the "Update" for specific modules, and was thinking to use that for FC3... but that link is dead, 404 error. What steps do I need to take to get the FC3 registry cleared so I can activate it? I can still fly the A-10C, but after every mission, it asks my to activate FC3... I stuck in a loop of it not allowing me to activate FC3. MatzWarhog Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Disregard... I just went to the registry and deleted the FC3 Key. It then allowed me to activate FC3 (using yet another activation). Hopefully, both Sims will remain stable now for a month so I can start gaining activations back. All of the reinstalls, and hardware changes were done in order to get the software to perform in a stable fashion. A bit disheartening when I invest time and money to upgrade my rig to run DCS the way it should run, only to lose the activations I bought in the first place. Surely there has to be an easier way to save your activations (short of a service ticket) just because you upgraded hardware. Problem solved, so no worries, as long as everything remains as stable and FAST as it is now. MatzWarhog Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 You only get one refill, not 10, and it refills again when it returns to zero. Then why does the documentation state use the phrase "(effectively "refilling" your serial number)."? A "refilled Serial Number would have 10, not 1. MatzWarhog Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 From DCS FC3 Quick Start EN.pdf: -StarForce ProActive AAA Technology You will no longer have a fixed number of activations, but in an effort to prevent piracy the system does limit the number of activations per month. Unless someone from ED wants to step in and clarify, we won't know until someone tries it out. You start with 10, you use one, You re-format, or build a new pc, you use another one, you end up like me and upgrade every 2-3 weeks use another and another and another, until only 1 is left. When you use that one, it will say "0" activations, and after 30 days you'll return to "1" and it will stay at 1 until you use that one, if you use it it will go back to zero and after 30 days, it will go back to 1. That is the way I have always understood it, but I will agree that the new wording (quoted from the FC3 docs) is rather unclear on what happens. The old wording (see the A-10C Quick Start) was even more ambiguous, though. I haven't reached that point yet, still have 3 activations for A-10. MatzWarhog Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) "1 activation is added automatically once per 31 days (effectively "refilling" your serial number)." is the kicker. If my doctor tells me to take 1 pill per day, that would mean 31 of them in May, not 1 and then stop. The way it is phrased in the included .pdf in the DCS files... in 10 months, you would be back to your original ten, as long as you didn't have to reactivate during those ten months... hence "(effectively "refilling" your serial number)." If that's not what it was meant to import, then that should be changed, as it is grossly misleading. I'm not going to belabor the point that the phraseology "(effectively "refilling" your serial number)." in the document is worded incorrectly. However, if one takes your reply verbatim, no one's serial number will ever be "effectively refilled" (10 is refilled to it's original state, 1 is not). If I run out, I'll buy more as the cost of the software is insignificant when compared to the cost of hardware. schroedi Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Sorry to interrupt you, how does the points count for a hard drive? Do you get 3 points when you change your primary HD (C: ), the HD where DCS is installed on but isnt'tyour Windows HD or any HD in your PC even if it has nothing to do with Windows and DCS? An activation will be required if the hardware/software changes exceed 12 points as rated below: CPU ID: 13 Windows PID: 3 Computer Name: 3 Hard drive volume serial number: 3 MAC address: 6 RAM amount: 6 Edited April 3, 2014 by schroedi
jtessier Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Hello all, I'm having the same problem as the original posting. I just purchased DCS World along with a couple of modules about a week ago and today I swapped in a faster processor (went from i3 to i5) and found that I needed to reactive the modules. But when I tell it to retry the activation, the dialog that comes up says reactivation successful (Activations left 8) with an OK button. I click the OK button and it just sits there endlessly. So I looked for a fix on the forums here, found the broken link like the original poster did, then found this thread and created my own registry file and successfully applied that but I'm still having the same problem. So, what should I try next? Thanks for any and all help. I really want to fly. John
