In most games we're basically fed with fake 3D (all the surrounds, dolby etc.) or outright 5.1 or 7.1 panning which is simply 2D. For everyone but PR guys that is. This is why what AMD is doing with their push to finally make some progress compared to late 90's (when true 3D audio was possible in games with A3D/Aureal3D) may be important. But again, true 3D positional audio IS possible right now without TrueAudio. With TrueAudio AMD just puts emphasis back on positional audio (the 90's technology mentioned) plus it moves it to another level of higher fidelity by making more processing power available. The other thing is this will probably only be implemented on new titles leaving all the old classics out. I can't wait for better positioning and quality of sound, it's the one technology that hasn't made any headway and if anything has gone backwards since DX9. Unfortunately we all wanted it yesterday 1
