Bruce_D Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Why is it so difficult to hit a vehicle with a TOW Missile? They sometimes pass so close and don`t destroy the target! Am I doing something wrong?
Silver_Dragon Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 The normal TOW has no a seeker how a Air to Air missile. It can only explode by hit the target, except a specific version with a directional warhead to attack upper armour with pass under the missile (no simulated on DCS:W) For Work/Gaming: 28" Philips 246E Monitor - Ryzen 7 1800X - 32 GB DDR4 - nVidia RTX1080 - SSD 860 EVO 1 TB / 860 QVO 1 TB / 860 QVO 2 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Warthog / TPR / MDF
sgtmike74 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 The TOWs in the sim, sometimes go a little goofy, not sure why. Hopefully they can make some adjustments in the future.

Flagrum Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Yeah, they don't have a proximity fuse I guess See that "pipe" protuding from the projectile in the second screenshot? If its tip hits the target, the shaped charge is ignited - the length of that pipe is measured so that the warhead has the optimal distance on impact. (tl;dr yes, it needs to impact at the tgt :o)
sgtmike74 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Another thing I noticed is that the TOWs in the sim do not always move towards the center of the crosshairs. I've seen them settle off boresight. If this happens make a slight adjustment. Don't jerk it tho or the missile will swing wild.
Keshman Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 In the CA, we need "TOW-2B Aero". Something like this (video) ED said may be later.... Is that normal to you?
sgtmike74 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 In the sim that is what it seems. I understand after the initial launch the missile should swerve here and there as it settles in. I just don't understand why, when you have the crosshairs planted center mass on a stationary target, the missile will sometimes settle off boresight and miss and others it will fly true. And the flight motors are burning way too long. They only have somewhere around a 2 sec burn time, the rest is all kinetic energy carrying it to the target.

Where do you put the crosshair to hit the target? I need a tip for this. Thanks
sgtmike74 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I place it center mass, but if the missile settles low and right, I'll bring it up and left a bit and vice versa. If you zoom in you should be able to see the back side of the missile.
