el santanadero Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Hello gentlemen, After having read a lot of threads full of complaints about some 3D models , i was wondering if it was possible to swap some models only for the AVI rendering. The idea is simple: the player would use a model with few polygons for the gameplay and switch to another one with too much polygons to be playable when it comes to AVI rendering. So , some "amateur" models could be usable for some eye-candy. P.S: I'm sorry if something like this has already been posted, searched and found nothing.
iVIPER21 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 It's a good idea but sadly not possible from what I know. However, what can be done instead is to use lower-than-normal-res textures for in-game (better framerates) and then swap the textures with high-res or ultra-high-res textures for the rendering process. Sometimes higher-res textures can help make a low-poly model look 100 times better. Just a thought.
Witchking Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 welll...what ED should be looking at is normal mapping. That makes low res models look soo much better. The indentations in jets...nuts and bolts can be represented without any fps loss. Roman G Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I suggested the idea a while ago but got almost no response. I would go even further than replacing aircraft models, for off-line rendering you could replace other models - ground vehicles, terrain, water, smoke, roads, trees, buildings, add rocks and grass, even use raytracer for rendering ... I guess results then could be Holywood quality (I mean picture quality) movies ...
