We don't know

Indeed, but we can still have a big (civil) argument over it.

They're probably fairly close in capability. The EF has a "smarter" radar, but the Su-35's is more powerful. I've also seen greater detection capabilities cited for PIRATE than the OLS-35, but that could be down to different criteria used for each evaluation.

The EF might be faster, I think it has supercruised to M 1.3 even with weapons which is something I haven't heard any other comparable fighter do. It's also quite small with sharply swept wings.

The Su might win out in terms of range or loiter, and with its proposed very long range weapons it could be a real threat to large aircraft.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

I was doing some reading around the Typhoon lately and it's getting some pretty amazing EW stuff by 2016 besides the new AESA radar.

  • CAPTOR-E with passive, active and cyberwarfare jamming capabilities

  • New digital interferometric ESM receivers for precise geolocation of RF threats

  • Improved low band detection and jamming.

  • New antennae for increased jamming ERP.

  • Passive missile warning system.

  • BriteCloud DRFM expendable jammers (smart chaff)

Not sure where that puts it against an Su-35S though, nor am I going to guess.:smilewink:

Biggest difference between the 2 right know would be the weapons they employ.

Appart from that the EF was designed to face a then Su-37 terminator with uberized capabilities. But it has been lagging behind the planned capabilities due to budget cuts.

Right know the Su-35 has a planar radar array, the EF does not. In a couple of years though it will, and paired with the meteor. That will be hard to beat.

Thank you. I wasn't trying to start a flame war or start claiming "Aircraft A is so much better than Aircraft B."

From aerodynamic perspective, I'm inclined to believe that the Su-35 has the edge in the transsonic region while the Typhoon will have the advantage in the supersonic, as it was designed to.

And it will be a matter of active vs passive radar but honestly, with these new targeting capable ESM systems, I'm not sure using a radar will even be a good idea in future combat.:(

I have heard that the forthcoming K-77M has an AESA seeker, whether the Meteor does, I don't know.
