Hello lads.

Some of you may already know, but there is a way to use old Xeon Quad Core LGA771 processors and put them in LGA775 MoBos, but the question I want to ask is, how does DCS work combined with Quad Core processors, and does its engine support these processors? Is it better to have 3.5Ghz Quad or 4Ghz Duo processor? FPS-vise of course.

The point here is that Xeons are cheaper compared to regular Intel Quad processors (you can get Xeon E5450 for 1/3 of a price of C2Q9650) and the performance are the same, but clocking possibilities are weaker.

DCS uses 1 core for sound and one for everything else.

So the other two would stay useless... Although it could be used for other stuff like TS, FT/TiR, etc... Where/how can I test these processes?

How do you mean test? DCS World is free as is Teamspeak so...

I meant to see which process uses which core 'n' stuff...

Is there an option to assign specific process to a specific core?

I would let the operating system assing cores. It is normally was better on this itselfe than if you try to interfer.

AFAIK no C2D has as high GHz as the mentioned Xeon. I would opt for the Xeon.

Simple reason, when you play DCS, you will have DOZENS of other processes running along with DCS or whatever app you choose to run, beginning with optional apps like Virus Scanners, TS, Fraps etc.. down to things you cannot and should not terminate as those are vital for Windows to operate. You will have to run all those 50+ processes on those 2 DCS used cores too with a C2D,

whereas a Xeon or any other 2+ Core CPU will shift those most likely between the not-so-stressed-by-DCS cores. As long as you don't sacrifice GHz for cores, DCS runs better in 2+ scenarios. Just don't go for a 12-core 2.7GHz Xeon, that would kill my math :)

Aynthing 3.x GHz or faster and 4 Cores+ will do fine, talking Intel. I am no fan of AMD's but thats another story...
