Ktulu2 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Hi I'm willing to upgrade my gpu because I get 20/25 fps on servers with horrible settings (AIM-120s are freaking squares...). I'm NOT willing to pay more than 400$, and in a perfect world 300. I think i'll buy a GTX770, but i'm not sure. But I know that Nvidia will release GTX800s, but i'm not really willing to wait 2/3 months. I also know EDGE is coming towards the end of the year, but I think that hardware requirements can only be less (like using more than 2 cores). My SSD is new, and my cpu was guiven to me recently so i'm not upgrading that too. specs : I7 2600 NON-k (3.4Ghz) GPU : HD 7770 (I bought that for minecraft...) SSD : Kingston Hyper-X 3K 120Gb RAM : 8 Gb (limited to 8 by motherboard) Motherboard : shitty HP-made carmel-2 HDD : 1T 7200rpm Itachi (not sure about the brand) PSU : 525W (I'll also be upgraded :/ its literally new from 1.5 year...) OS : Win 7 I think thats all the specs I neede to give, tell me if you want more info I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
Pilotasso Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Looks like you need only to upgrade your GFX because My CPU is weaker than yours and I get smooth gameplay. I recommend GTX770 since NVIDIA plays best in DCS. .
Ktulu2 Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Just realised I didn't ask anything... So is that setup going to be ok? is a 770 overkill and should I get a 760 instead? I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
Pilotasso Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 a 760 is enough for now but with EDGE coming you'll probably want something slightly more powerful and that will last longer. .
xxJohnxx Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 But to be honest. With a good CPU it is very simple: The better the graphics card, the better the performance. I noticed an improvment from a GTX560Ti to a GTX780. I probably would notice an impromvent from a GTX780 to a GTX780Ti as well. So, the better the graphics card, the better the performance. The only limitting factor is money unfortuantly ;) Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled
Ktulu2 Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Just to know, do you think my cpu is good? If DCS took use of multi-threading, then it would sure be, be as it is un-OC, is it good to have the kind of improvement you talked about? xxJohnxx Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 This is is difficult to say to be honest. I mean your CPU isn't the newest, neither is it the fastest. Neither is your graphics card (far of actually). Updating one without the other might give you some improvment, but to actually get the best out of your hardware you would have to upgrade both, the CPU and GPU. This would also imply that you would have to upgrade the mainboard (which can also be a limiting factor). This can get expensive, I know. However, that is the way it is unfortuantly. I would recommend getting a new (maybe not very expensive (GTX 770(Ti) or above)) and in a few months get yourselfe a new mainboard and a new CPU. A better GPU definatelly would help, but to get all out of it, you would have to go for a good CPU as well. If DCS took use of multi-threading, then it would sure be, be as it is un-OC, is it good to have the kind of improvement you talked about? are you running at least with the AMD/ATI 14.4 drivers? there was a big performance bump for AMD cards with that driver. Also, Mustang has a few tweaks for the graphics.lua and high.lua files. that helped with a few FPS's as well. edit: adding linky... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=123428 MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
Ktulu2 Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 I'll try it, but I doubt i'll make a big enough differance keep that card. I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
javelina1 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I'll try it, but I doubt i'll make a big enough differance keep that card. FWIW I'm using a HD7870, with those drivers, and a primary display 1920x1080, and extractions via a 20" 1600x900. All is working just fine in SP and MP. Those drivers did make a BIG diff. Ktulu2 Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 They do make a differance, but what I'd like is to run AA etc from the gpu, so that I get GREAT graphics. Even with the driver I'm really far from that. I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
